challenging enough for an experienced drawer. Visit www.theartparkwichita.

If you are interested in a real basketball camp, then Coach Fiegel has just the
camp for you. We have one primary goal in our camps and that is to prepare
you to be successful as a basketball player. We focus on three areas to make
that happen: fundamentals, attitude, and work ethic. We want every young
man who leaves our camp to have a total and complete understanding of
what it takes to be successful in the game of basketball. In the past twenty-six
years, Coach Fiegel has won five State Championships (1993, 1996, 2007,
2009, and 2010). They were second in 1998 and finished third in 1994 and
2011. Overall his TEAMS have made eleven State Tournament appearances.
In 2007 and 2010, he was chosen by the Wichita Eagle as Metro Coach of
the Year and All-State Coach of the Year as well. When you think about what
camp to choose for your son this summer, ask yourself these questions:
1. Do you want a tough and challenging camp for your son?
2. Is twenty-six years of summer camp experience important to you?
3. Do you want your son to work harder than he has ever worked and have fun
while he is doing it?
4. Do you, at some point, hope that your son will be a high school player on
a great TEAM?
If the answer is yes to any of these questions, then this is the camp for you.
We are committed to providing a challenging and instructional experience
for your son. Every player will receive a basketball report card to evaluate his
current skill level and a camp T-shirt. Each session will be limited to thirty
campers, so enroll early; sessions fill up quickly, and we are committed to the

Phonemic Awareness: Getting Ready to Read Peggy Drew

Coach Terrence Phox just finished his ninth season as Head Coach of the
Lady Spartans varsity basketball team. In 2011 the Lady Spartans won the 3A
State Championship, and in 2009, the Lady Spartans took 2nd in the 3A State
Tournament. The teams success can be attributed to hard work, positive attitudes, learning proper fundamentals, and working on individual skills during
the off-season. Coach Phox will share these same teachings and philosophies
in his camps this summer. These camps will provide positive instruction with
emphasis on good attitudes, work ethic, and having fun. The instruction and
focus will be age appropraite for each camp session. Every person who attends will receive a camp T-shirt. Come join Coach Phox, his staff, and some
of the Lady Spartan basketball players for a fun and focused week of basketball. Meets Monday through Thursday. For more information email tphox@

This week-long course will be filled with fun songs, games, and learning activities to help your child hear and manipulate the sounds that make up words

Scott Hawley

Camp Collegiate is a fast-paced, fun-based learning experience that is meant

to make summer days fly by with fun activities. Boys and girls in 3rd through
8th grade spend their days with friends and counselors doing all of the typical camp things: swimming, cooking out on a camp fire, canoe trips, arts and
crafts, having treats, horseback riding, games and a lot of not-so-traditional
things, like feeding and caring for snakes and hamsters, studying ecosystems
and astronomy, competing in science challenges, building woodworking and
electronics projects. Fun off-campus trips will include canoeing down the
Fall River and visiting the Oklahoma salt flats as well as going to Laser Quest,
the Alley, Ice Skating, Tanganyika, the Sedgwick County Zoo, and All-Star
Adventures. Kids often say that great memories are made in this camp, and
its one of the best parts of their summer! Each day at camp begins at 9:00
a.m. with a game of capture the flag and ends at 3:00 p.m. with a fun closing
activity where the Happy Camper for the day is announced. With all the
fun activities that this camp has to offer, its a tremendous value for the price.

Karate can be for everyone, no matter your physical condition. Students

progress at their own pace, and it is as competitive or non-competitive as the
student would like it to be. Classes are hard work, but we do have fun, too.
The main focus of the class is practical self defense that works. Secondarily,
we teach strength, endurance, coordination, balance, and overall mental and
physical discipline. We currently have students as young as seven and over 50.

The classes are for both boys and girls in grades 2-6. This program will be under the guidance of Troy Black, Mike Gehrer, Cam Clark, and Destiny Clark.
Coach Black has been coaching speed & strength training for 26 years. Coach
Gehrer has been running youth speed and agility camps for the past 10 years
at Gehrer Performance Center. Cam Clark is the head trainer at Newman
University and Wichita Collegiate School. Destiny Clark is the girls Middle
School PE teacher and strength coach for female athletes at WCS.
Science has proven that ages 7-11 are the most critical years in a childs life for
motor skill development. Our program utilizes the most up-to-date research in a
fun and friendly environment to build the young athletes physical skills. Through
our youth speed training, youth agility training, and youth sports performance
training technique, kids will improve coordination and self-esteem. Every athlete
will go through an evaluation process to assess strengths and weaknesses in areas
such as speed, agility, and coordination, which will allow them to be grouped
accordingly. After this first evaluation, the child will be placed in groups based
upon performance level and age. All the drills and activities will be age and skill
appropriate. The programs goal is to improve the following areas: coordination/
agility, running technique, body weight strength, first step quickness, flexibility,
injury prevention, weight loss, self confidence. All classes are held in the Lattner
Center located at the Upper School. For more information email tblack@wcsks.com.

WCS Boys Basketball Camp Session 1

$205

Mitch Fiegel

If you are interested in a real basketball camp, then Coach Fiegel has just the camp
for you. We have one primary goal in our camps and that is to prepare you to be successful as a basketball player. We focus on three areas to make that happen: fundamentals, attitude, and work ethic. We want every young man who leaves our camp
to have a total and complete understanding of what it takes to be successful in the
game of basketball. In the past twenty-six years, Coach Fiegel has won five State
Championships (1993, 1996, 2007, 2009, and 2010). They were second in 1998
and finished third in 1994 and 2011. Overall his TEAMS have made eleven State
Tournament appearances. In 2007 and 2010, he was chosen by the Wichita Eagle
as Metro Coach of the Year and All-State Coach of the Year as well. When you think
about what camp to choose for your son this summer, ask yourself these questions:
Each session will be limited to thirty
campers, so enroll early; sessions fill up quickly, and we are committed to the
thirty-camper limit to ensure quality instruction. Please contact Coach Fiegel

Please call Scott Hawley for further details at 634-0489, ext. 410, or send an email

Our program utilizes the most up-to-date research
in a fun and friendly environment to build the young athletes physical skills.
Through our youth speed training, youth agility training, and youth sports
performance training technique, kids will improve coordination and self-esteem. Every athlete will go through an evaluation process to assess strengths
and weaknesses in areas such as speed, agility, and coordination, which will
allow them to be grouped accordingly. After this first evaluation, the child will
be placed in groups based upon performance level and age. All the drills and
activities will be age and skill appropriate. The programs goal is to improve
the following areas: coordination/agility, running technique, body weight
strength, first step quickness, flexibility, injury prevention, weight loss, self
confidence. All classes are held in the Lattner Center located at the Upper
School. For more information email tblack@wcsks.com.

Summer Strength and Speed Training

Troy Black

All classes will be taught in the state-of-the-art Lattner Center located on the
west side of the Upper School. Some sessions will take place on the turf or
track at Spartan Stadium located just to the east of the Beren Middle School.
The summer staff of Troy Black, Mike Gehrer, Destiny Clark, Cam Clark, and
others have many years of proven experience and knowledge. The curriculum
and techniques like the training center are state-of-the-art and are presented in
a positive, uplifting environment. Each session has a curriculum molded to the
skill sets and abilities of the students. This program is for students, boys and
girls, who will be in the 7th or 8th grade during the 2015-2016 school year.
Students will learn proper techniques for certain weight lifting and running
exercises. When they work with weights, they will use weight that is appropriate for their age and experience. The repetitions will be appropriate for the students age (high reps, the range will be 10-15 reps). They will also be instructed
on how to work on their strength by using other implements such as medicine
balls and their own body weight. The students will work on form running,
speed and agility drills, plyometric drills, and core exercises. Stretching and
flexibility will be daily staples in our program. The focus of this program is to
introduce the students to the weight room, get them ready for their upcoming sport season, provide them with the opportunity to improve their physical
conditioning level, a variety of ways to work on strength and speed, and get
them excited about training. We know that these students are still growing, so
the whole focus is on technique, and improving their speed, agility, quickness,
and conditioning level. For more information email tblack@wcsks.com.

WCS Boys Basketball Camp Session 1

Mitch Fiegel

Each session will be limited to thirty
campers, so enroll early; sessions fill up quickly, and we are committed to the
thirty-camper limit to ensure quality instruction. Please contact Coach Fiegel

If you are interested in a real basketball camp, then Coach Fiegel has just the

you to be successful as a basketball player. We focus on three areas to make
that happen: fundamentals, attitude, and work ethic. We want every young
man who leaves our camp to have a total and complete understanding of what
it takes to be successful in the game of basketball. In the past twenty-six years,
Coach Fiegel has won five State Championships (1993, 1996, 2007, 2009,

SAT/PSAT/ACT Prep for Critical Reading & Writing

Peter DeVries
This eight-day course will focus on preparation for the verbal and writing
sections of the PSAT, SAT, and ACT standardized tests, all of which assess
reading comprehension with emphasis on interpretation and analysis of
prose passages from a variety of disciplines. They also rely heavily on a students breadth of vocabulary and knowledge of grammar in the context of
good writing. This course will review these areas, teach tips and strategies for
maximizing test performance, and provide students practice in taking timed
sections of the test. Participants will need to complete practice assignments
outside of class. While there will be greater emphasis on SAT / PSAT instruction, students will also receive an introduction to and practice with the ACT
English sections. Rising juniors are strongly encouraged to take both math
and verbal preparation courses. These courses are an important step in the development of a systematic approach to test preparation, which should include
continuing individual work at home through the fall of the senior year. This
is a two-week course that meets Monday through Thursday. For more information
