Lesson Objectives (i.e. anticipated outcomes of this lesson, in point form beginning with an action verb)
As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:
Create a mind map in a group demonstrating the conventions and techniques used to create engaging fairy
tales
Utilise IT to communicate and share ideas across a group of people
Greet the class, Good afternoon everyone, how are we today? Ask
the students if they have ever heard of fairy tales. Then go on to say
that you have an interesting one to show them, play 2-3 minutes of
the video.
After you have played part of the video say Unfortunately we cant
play the whole video because weve only got half an hour today.
Tell the students to get into groups of three with the people closest to
them, and then open the link thats on blackboard under Melissas
2:30pm class.
Resources/References
Align these with the
segment where they will
be introduced.
After video has been shown ask the students to go to lessons and
look at the dropdown tab and select authors and illustrators.
After doing this they can then move on to reading the steps
Once they have read the lesson through ask them to discuss within
their groups which fairy tale they would like to select.
The students will then read through the fairy tale independently until
all members of the group have completed it.
The teacher will then go on to say after you have selected and read
through your chosen fairy tale, please go on to either Bubbl.us or
SpiderScribe and begin to create your mindmap. Then continue on
saying remember that you should include the major events in the
story, so you should be thinking about the characters, setting, plot,
and how you reacted.
After the students have finished their mindmap go on to say If you
are all ready to move on I am going to need you to save the mindmap
onto your student drive (your (H:) drive)
You will firstly need to watch the video we have listed on our weebly
by Jana Bolton, this will guide you through creating an account and
saving your work onto this application for the remainder of the unit.
After watching this video students will then go on to creating their own
account, this will be done individually.
Teacher will ask students to create a file within their Dropbox account
labelled fairy tale Webquest.
Once they have done this the student who has the lead computer with
the mindmap saved onto it will need to select the chain link at the
bottom of the file that says share. They will Email this link to the
other members in their group as well as the Teacher so they all have
a copy saved.
Teacher will say So today we looked at online fairy tales and focused
on what makes them interesting. We looked at the characters, plot,
setting and readers reactions.
Teacher will ask certain students why their group chose the story, and
what elements they thought made it the most engaging. Whether it be
that the characters were full of emotion and action, or the plot was
intense and attention grabbing.
Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will these be judged?)
Observation checklist
Teacher will be able to look onto the students mindmaps via Dropbox
after the students have emailed them the link within the lesson.
