Course Prerequisites: CIS219 Introduction to Graphic Design or permission of the faculty.

Course Objectives: [ ditto. ]

Assessment criteria will include increased knowledge and understanding of the following:
• understanding of graphic design in a rigorous, critical way
• understanding informed by contemporary media and theory
• topics to include visual structures ranging from point, line, and plane to scale, hierarchy, layers,
and transparency,
which underlie any work of design, from logo to letterhead to complex web site

Practical Application
• Demonstrate ability to set up and format new documents using Adobe Creative Suite
applications
• Prepare final files for commercial printing per printer's instructions
• Prepare final files for electronic distribution in appropriate formats
• Facility with online tools for collaboration and communication

Class Format
Independent study. Student will work hands-on, and post work to the following site:

For each week's projects, student will email the following:

1. at least two work-in-progress images; these can be alternate directions considered and
discarded, or snapshots of early version of the final piece
2. an image of the final piece
3. the live file, packaged with fonts and zipped; this might be Illustrator, Photoshop, or InDesign,
depending on the project

These can be three separate emails; attach files, and use the body of the email to describe the work
and the approach taken.

Include explanations of any source material used. All work must be original.
Image file formats: jpgs for photographic work; gifs for illustrative work.

Methods of evaluating student work will include the following:

Punctuality 25%
Verbal communication about weekly projects 25%
Final Project, visual: 50%

Grades are given based on the following:


A 93-100% C 73-76%
A- 90-92% C- 70-72%
B+ 87-89% D+ 67-69%
B 83-86% D 63-66%
B- 80 - 82% D- 60 - 62%
C+ 77-79% F 0-59%

Class Attendance: A student should recognize that one of the most vital aspects of a college experience is attendance and
participation.
Attendance is a must. Absences will effect a student' s grade.
Because this course is being taken as an independent study, timely completion of all projects is paramount.
If there is an illness or emergency, please notify the College office or email me before class. All assignments will be
submitted on time.
NO MAKE- UP ASSIGNMENTS WITHOUT LEGITIMATE ARRANGEMENT OF ABSENCE WITH INSTRUCTOR.
If you need any help, please feel free to email me.

Class Cancellations: Should classes need to be canceled by instructor, students will be notified be before class.
Due to inclement weather, the College will post announcements on radio stations WTSL, Q106, and
WNHV.
If the College office is closed, the message will be on the Lebanon College answering machine. (603-
448-2445).
