Background of the Study

Footwear consists of garments worn on the feet. It is use for a variety of
reasons, including protection against the environment, hygiene and adornment.
Oftentimes, socks and other hosiery are worn under footwear. Footwear is
sometimes associated with trendy people, particularly in recent fashions in shoes,
sandals, slippers and etc..
Online ordering is the process whereby consumers directly buy goods or
services from a seller in real-time, without an intermediary service, over the Internet.
If an intermediary service is present the process is called electronic commerce. An
online shop, e-shop, e-store, internet shop, web shop, web store, online store, or
virtual store evokes the physical analogy of buying products or services at a bricks
retailer or in a shopping mall.
The MATs ( Mosalud, Agapay and Tacata ) Footwear is one of the business
enterprises that sell quality footwear products in Liliw, Laguna since year 2000.
This business was planned by the Agapay family. Due to some financial
problems, a partnership with Jesusa Monsalud, Tita Agapay and Lucy Tacata was
put into consideration. They contributed finances to own a space where they can
build the planned business. For now the store can be seen across the municipality
of LiLiw, Laguna.
By the year 2008, Mrs. Monsalud and her husband decided to run the
business and owned it. They hired workers to help them in running the Footwear
business, which is near at their house. Every week they deliver their Footwear

3
products in Manila and delivering the orders of their valued customers using their
own delivery van. The acronym MAT, which is the name of the Footwear
establishment, MAT stands for Monsalud, Agapay and Tacata which is said to be
driven by the family surnames. The business has assistants or helpers to assist and
help them run the business. They are selling various Footwear products that suits
every customers taste such as Footwear products made from abaca, rubber and
even plastics and theyre even accepting personalized designs and orders from the
customers ordering process is done through the use of the internet and have it
online. With the use of this web based system, customers can easily order products
they wish to buy and have it delivered to them.
MAT is an acronym which came from the surnames of the family whose are
said to be the Monsalud, Agapay and Tacata. They provide all the materials use in
the business and also some finished products such as slippers, shoes, sandals and
many others. These products are made of woods, rubbers and abacas.
.The MATs footwear enterprise is in a traditional way of running or operating
their business. This means that they are having their orders of the customers
through phone calls. Others have it by dropping by to the store or shop personally
and tell the owner what they are ordering which sometimes caused troubles due to
the lack of workers that will do the ordered products.
Due to this problem, the researchers came up with the idea of creating or
implementing a web-based system for the enterprise which is entitled MATs
Footwear Online Ordering and Delivery System.

4
This system would probably give and provide MATs Footwear enterprise a
convenient and easier way of having their order of products online through the use
of the internet. This will also lessen the time and of the effort of their customers
because they dont need to came and visit the store to check for their latest products
and order it. It will also be a great help for the owners to have their delivering time
hassle free.
The main purpose of this web-based system is to develop a more easy and
convenient manner of ordering and delivering of the products in the MATs Footwear
enterprise and that it will provide the enterprise a more manageable and systematic
way of running their business.

Theoretical Framework:
The study is anchored on the learning of Winston Royce introduced on 1970
called waterfall model. It is a model based upon the study for software
development (a process for the creation of software), which develop regularly
flowing downwards (like a waterfall). The development runs through a number of
phases, namely: definition study/analysis, basic design, technical design / detailed
design,

construction,

testing,

integration,

management

and

maintenance. Previously, a large software development, especially large cluttered

knitting. With the advent of this new method, the computer companies hoped to
clarify in their projects.
The programmer and web developers task is to translate information to be
viewed into a format appropriate to the users in spiral manner to continually build
from what they already know the most effective sequence to present material so
that it can be most grasped by the users.

Chapter 2
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND RELATED STUDIES
This chapter presents the review of related literature and related studies that
have some degree of relevance to the current study and that provides direction of
the conduct of the study.
Related Literature
Performance
According to www.businessdictionary.com (2009), performance is the
accomplishment
of accuracy,

of

given task measured against

completeness, cost,

and

speed.

In

preset

known

a contract,

standards

performance

is deemed to be the fulfillment of an obligation, in a manner that releases the

performer from all liabilities under the contract.

As stated in humanresources.about.com (2010), performance is the process

of creating a work environment or setting in which people are enabled to perform to
the best of their abilities. Performance management is a whole work system that
begins when a job is defined as needed. It ends when an employee leaves your
organization.

According to en.wikipedia.org (2011) performance analysis, commonly known

as profiling, is the investigation of a program's behavior using information gathered
as the program executes. Its goal is to determine which sections of a program to
optimize.

12
The above literatures are related to the study because those are also
concerning with performance.

Usability

According to www.usabilitynet.org (2006), Usability means making products

and systems easier to use, and matching them more closely to user needs and
requirements.
As stated in usability.gov (2007), usability measures the quality of a user's
experience when interacting with a product or system-whether a Web site, a
software application, mobile technology, or any user-operated device.
As cited in msdn.microsoft.com (2011), usability is a measure of how easy it
is to use a product to perform prescribed tasks. This is distinct from the related
concepts of utility and likeability.
The above literatures are related to the study since they also discusses
usability.

Design
As

cited

in

en.wikipedia.org

(2009),

Instructional

Design (also

called Instructional Systems Design (ISD)) is the practice of maximizing the

effectiveness, efficiency and appeal of instruction and other learning experiences.
The process consists broadly of determining the current state and needs of the
learner, defining the end goal of instruction, and creating some "intervention" to

13
assist in the transition. Ideally the process is informed by pedagogically (process of
teaching) and andragogically (adult learning) tested theories of learning and may
take place in student-only, teacher-led or community-based settings. The outcome of
this instruction may be directly observable and scientifically measured or completely
hidden and assumed. There are many instructional design models but many are
based on the ADDIE model with the five phases: 1) analysis, 2) design, 3)
development, 4) implementation, and 5) evaluation. As a field, instructional design is
historically and traditionally rooted in cognitive and behavioral psychology.
As mentioned in www.allwords.com (2010), system design is the process or
art of defining the hardware and software architecture, components, modules,
interfaces, and data for a computer system to satisfy specified requirements. One
could see it as the application of systems theory to computing. Some overlap with
the discipline of systems analysis appears inevitable.
The above literatures are related to the study because those are also
describing design.
Error-handling
As described in searchsoftwarequality.techtarget.com (2008), error handling
refers to the anticipation, detection, and resolution of programming, application, and
communications errors. Specialized programs, called error handlers, are available
for some applications. The best programs of this type forestall errors if possible,
recover from them when they occur without terminating the application, or (if all else
fails) gracefully terminate an affected application and save the error information to a

14
log file. In programming, a development error is one that can be prevented. Such an
error can occur in syntax or logic. Syntax errors, which are typographical mistakes or
improper use of special characters, are handled by rigorous proofreading.
As stated in www.pcmag.org (), error-handling is the routines in a program
that respond to errors. The measurement of quality in error handling is based on
how the system informs the user of such conditions and what alternatives it provides
for dealing with them.
As mentioned in book.realworldhaskell.org (2008), error handling is one of the
most important-and overlooked-topics for programmers, regardless of the language
used. In Haskell, you will find two major types of error handling employed: "pure"
error handling and exceptions. When we speak of "pure" error handling, we are
referring to algorithms that do not require anything from the IO monad. We can often
implement error handling for them by simply using Haskell's expressive data type
system to our advantage. Haskell also has an exception system. Due to the
complexities of lazy evaluation, exceptions in Haskell can be thrown anywhere, but
only caught within the IO monad. In this chapter, we'll consider both.
The above literatures are related to the study because those are also
concerned with error-handling.
User-friendliness
As cited in www.pcmag.com (2010), user friendliness is a system that is easy
to learn and easy to use. In the past, this term was so abused in the software
business that vendors became reluctant to use it today. Except for mobile phone

15
applications, which due to their tiny screens forces developers to design concisely, a
great amount of desktop software is downright "user hostile." It is the rarest of
desktop applications that can be used by someone immediately who has never
worked with a similar program.
As stated in www.travel-industry-dictionary.com (2007), user-friendly system
is designed in such a way as to be easy to use or operate, especially of computers
and computer software.
As mentioned in www.lukew.com (2005), user friendliness means that the
interface will guide the users through different stages towards the accomplishment of
the tasks. It lessens the difference between users and the systems, such that users
can interact more with the tasks and less with the system. User friendly interface will
ask the user for details that are sufficient enough to complete the task. The
requested details are under a narrow scope and constrained to be meaningful
answers. The interface will always ask to confirm users intentions before performing
destructive actions.
The above literatures are related to the study because those are also dealt
with user-friendliness.
Security
According to www.albion.com (2006), defining "computer security" is not
trivial. The difficulty lies in developing a definition that is broad enough to be valid
regardless of the system being described, yet specific enough to describe what
security really is. In a generic sense, security is "freedom from risk or danger." In the

16
context of computer science, security is the prevention of, or protection against,
access to information by unauthorized recipients, and intentional but unauthorized
destruction or alteration of that information
According to www.webopedia.com (2011), in the computer industry, the term
security or the phrase computer security - refers to techniques for ensuring
that data stored in a computer cannot be read or compromised by any individuals
without authorization. Most computer security measures involve data encryption and
passwords. Data encryption is the translation of data into a form that is unintelligible
without a deciphering mechanism. A password is a secret word or phrase that gives
a user access to a particular program or system.
As stared in www.its.bldrdoc.gov (2006), information systems security
(INFOSEC

and/or

ISS): [The] protection of information systems

unauthorized access to or modification of information, whether in

against
storage,

processing or transit, and against the denial of service to authorized users, including
those measures necessary to detect, document, and counter such threats.
The above literatures are related to the study since those are also discussing
about security.
System
According to www.webopedia.com (2009), system is short for system file, an
essential program that runs whenever you start up a Macintosh. The System
provides information to all other applications that run on a Macintosh. The System
and Finder programs together make up the Mac OS.

17
As mentioned in www.freetutes.com (2007), system is an integrated set,

we mean that a system, by definition, is composed of hierarchical levels of

physical elements, entities, or components.
As stated in hissa.nist.gov (2008), systems are developed to satisfy a set of
requirements that meet a need. A requirement that is important in some systems is
that they be highly dependable.
The above literatures are related to the study since those were also
discussing about system.
Programming Tools
XAMPP
According to www.frihost.com (2009), XAMPP is an easy to install Apache
distribution containing MySQL, PHP and Perl. XAMPP is really very easy to install
and to use - just download, extract and start.
As cited in simon.getk2.org (2010), XAMPP is a variation of the commonly
used acronym LAMP which stands for Linux, the Apache web server, the MySQL
database and the languages PHP and Perl. Many websites run on a variation of
LAMP (or the not quite as popular WAMP for Windows etc.).
As stated in docs.moodle.org (2010), XAMPP is a fully functional web server
package. It is built to test web based programs on a personal computer. It is not
meant for online access via the web on a production server. This page describes
how to install the XAMPP web server package of programs and how to install a
Moodle standard package on the server which was created.

18
The above literatures are related to the study because those are also
discussing XAMPP.

Macromedia Dreamweaver
According

to

www.wordiq.com

(2010),

Macromedia

Dreamweaver is

a web design software application developed by Macromedia.

It

uses

powerful

editing

system

that

incorporates

both WYSIWYG and HTML editing. It is currently available for Mac and Windows.
The latest version is Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004. Rumors persist that
Macromedia

has

built

version

of

Dreamweaver

that

runs

on

the Linux platform (usingWine), although the company has made no formal
announcement on the matter. As a part WYSIWYG editor, Dreamweaver can hide
the details of pages' HTML code from the user, making it possible for non-experts to
easily create web pages and sites. Some web developers criticize this approach as
producing HTML pages that are much larger than they should be and cause Web
browsers to perform poorly. In addition, some web site developers have criticized
Dreamweaver in the past for producing code that often does not comply
with W3C standards. However, in recent versions of Dreamweaver, it has been at
the

front

edge

of

HTML

formats,

including

the

powerful XHTML format.

Dreamweaver allows you to pick most browsers installed on your computer to

preview websites.
As described in www.pcmag.com (2011), Dreamweaver is a comprehensive
Web site authoring program for Windows and Mac from Adobe. Dreamweaver is a

19
sophisticated authoring package that is noted for many advanced features. For
example, site designers can seamlessly move back and forth between visual and
HTML modes. Dreamweaver was originally developed by Macromedia, which was
acquired by Adobe in 2005.
The above studies are related to the study because those are also describing
the Macromedia Dreamweaver.

Adobe Photoshop CS3

According to en.wikipedia.org (2011), Adobe Photoshop is a graphics editing
program developed and published by Adobe Systems Incorporated. Adobe's 2003
"Creative Suite" rebranding led to Adobe Photoshop 8's renaming to Adobe
Photoshop CS. Thus, Adobe Photoshop CS5 is the 12th major release of Adobe
Photoshop. The CS rebranding also resulted in Adobe offering numerous software
packages containing multiple Adobe programs for a reduced price. Adobe
Photoshop is released in two editions: Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Photoshop
Extended, with the Extended having extra 3D image creation, motion graphics
editing, and advanced image analysis features. [3]. Adobe Photoshop Extended is
included in all of Adobe's Creative Suite offerings except Design Standard, which
includes the Adobe Photoshop edition. Alongside Adobe Photoshop and Adobe
Photoshop Extended, Adobe also publishes Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe
Photoshop Lightroom, collectively called "The Adobe Photoshop Family" by Adobe.
In 2008, Adobe released Adobe Photoshop Express, a free web-based image editing
tool to edit photos directly on blogs and social networking sites.

20
As described in answers.com (2011), Photoshop is a popular high-end image
editor for the Macintosh and Windows from Adobe. The original Mac versions were
the first to bring affordable image editing down to the personal computer level in the
late 1980s. Since then, Photoshop has become the de facto standard in image
editing. Although it contains a large variety of image editing features, one of
Photoshop's most powerful capabilities is layers, which allows images to be
rearranged under and over each other for placement. Photoshop is designed to read
from and convert to a raft of graphics formats, but uses its own native format for
layers (.PSD extension).
The above literatures are related to the study since those are also
describing the Adobe Photoshop.
Online Ordering
According to wikipedia.org (2011), online ordering is the process whereby
consumers directly buy goods or services from a seller in real-time, without an
intermediary service, over the Internet. It is a form of electronic commerce. An online
shop, eshop, e-store, internet shop, webshop, webstore, online store, or virtual store
evokes the physical analogy of buying products or services at a bricks-andmortar retailer or in a shopping centre. The process is called Business-to-Consumer
(B2C) online shopping. When a business buys from another business it is called
Business-to-Business (B2B) online shopping.
As cited in answers.yahoo.com (2010), Online Ordering System is an ecommerce function where a company allows customers to order products or
services via their website. Since the Internet is booming, having an online ordering

21
system can boost sales to some extent as it eases customers to place an order for
the company's services. I mean, people can place orders from their home as long as
they have a computer/laptop with Internet connection.
The above literatures are related to the study because those are also involved
with online ordering.

Customer
As

stated

in

www.businessdictionary.com

(2011),customer

in

or

www.investorwords.com

(2010),

customer

The above literatures are relevant to the study since those also emphasize
the meaning of customer.
Homepage
According to searchsoa.techtarget.com (2010), a home page is the first page
presented when a user selects a site or presence on the World Wide Web. The
usual address for a Web site is the home page address, although you can enter the
address (Uniform Resource Locator) of any page and have that page sent to you.

22
As mentioned in iwebtool.com (2008), homepage is the starting point or front
page of a Web site. This page usually has some sort of table of contents on it and
often

describes

the

purpose

of

the

site.

For

example,

http://www.sharpened.net/index.php is the home page of Sharpened.net. When you

type in a basic URL, such as "http://www.cnet.com," you are typically directed to the
home page of the Web site. Many people have a "personal home page," which is
another way the term "home page" can be used.
According to www.wisegeek.com (2010), a homepage is the initial page
someone sees when he opens up a website on the Internet. Every website,
regardless of what type of site it is, has a home page. Some individuals may also
have one set up for them when they first open their Internet browser.
The above literatures are related to the study since those also dealt with the
description of homepage.

Footwear
As described in en.wikipedia.org (2010), footwear are durable shoes are a
relatively recent invention, though many ancient civilizations wore ornamental
footwear. Many ancient civilizations saw no need for footwear. The Romans saw
clothing and footwear as signs of power and status in society, and most Romans
wore footwear, while slaves and peasants remained barefoot. The Middle Ages saw
the rise of high-heeled shoes, also associated with power, and the desire to look
larger than life, and artwork often depicted someone barefoot as a symbol of
poverty. Bare feet are also seen as a sign of humility and respect, and adherents of

23
many religions worship or mourn barefoot, or remove their shoes as a sign of
respect towards someone of higher standing.
As cited in encyclopedia2.thefreedictionary.com (2009), modern footwear is
designed for everyday or special wear. Everyday footwear includes shoes for
daytime, evening (high fashion), and home wear. Special footwear comprises
orthopedic and industrial shoes and shoes worn for various sports.
The above literatures are related to the study because those also tackle about
footwear.
Delivery
As cited in brainyquote.com (2008), delivery is the act of delivering up or over;
surrender; transfer of the body or substance of a thing; distribution; as, the delivery
of a fort, of hostages, of a criminal, of goods, of letters.
As described in businessdictionary.com (2010), delivery is the transfer of
a cash

commodity from

the

seller of

a futures

contract to

its buyer,

in accordance with the rules of a particular futures exchange. It is also the transfer of
a shipment's title through transfer of an original copy of the bill of lading to
the consignee.
As

stated

in

www.definitions.net

(2010),

delivery

is

the

carrying

and turning over of letters, goods, etc., to a designated recipient or recipients.

The above literatures are relevant to the study because those also dealt with
delivery.

Related Studies
Performance
According to Helton, Jon C. (2006), he described in his study entitled
Treatment of Uncertainty in Performance Assessments for Complex Systems that
performance, when viewed at high, performance assessments for complex systems
involve two types of uncertainty: stochastic uncertainty, which arises because the
system under study can behave in many different ways, and subjective uncertainty,
which arises from a lack of knowledge about quantities required within the
computational implementation of the performance.
According to Shubert, et al.,(2009) mentioned that the advancement of
computer technology used for research is creating the need to change the way
classes are taught in higher education. Bringing Research Tools into the
Classroom has become a major focus of the work of the Office of Educational
Innovation and Technology (OEIT) for the Dean of Undergraduate (DUE) at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The work is conducted by the OEITs
Software Tools for Academics and Researchers (STAR) team. The STAR developers
collaborate with faculty researchers to help solve the problems of moving
computational tools for research into the classroom. In the first two years of the
programs existence, the STAR team has implemented software for both protein
structure visualization and hydrological analysis and watersheds, repackage
genomics software for analyzing micro array data and provided the development of
environment and computational resources necessary for parallel programming.

25
The above studies are related to the study because it also discussed
performance.
Usability
Bartolome, et al. (2009) in their study, Information Technology Online
Resources (ITOR) reveals that the level of perception of the respondents with
respect to usability showed that the system was usable.
Conte M. et.al (2007) in their study, Ro-Janes Online Invitation card system
cited that the respondents agreed that their system is usable, as reflected in their
weighted mean and standard deviation.
The above studies are related to the study since those are also dealing with
usability.
Design
Deborja E. et.al (2009) in their study, Data Communication Software
mentioned in their summary of findings that the perception of the respondents
showed that the system can easily be updated for the future revisions.
According to Purisima et al. (2009) in their study Trainee Record System
this includes the low level components and algorithm implementations issues as well
as the architectural view.
According to Colendra et al. (2007) in their study LSPU SCC Tabulation
system the software designs blends with the system and easily understood by the
user.

26
The above studies are related to the study since those are also dealing with
design.
Error-handling
Matugas, et al.(2010) in their thesis entitled Lumban Waterworks System
showed in their findings that the level of performance of the system as perceived by
the respondents in terms of system design was well design as reflected by the
general weighted mean of 4.53 with the standard deviation of 0.473 and verbally
interpreted as agree.
Idian, et al.(2007) developed a system entitled Sales and Inventory System
of EJ Macapagal Pharmacy. It proves that the respondents perceived that the
software can handle incorrect input, can generate its accuracy and functions, and
can perform its intended function and understand conditions, and give debugging
functions.
Coral, et al. (2008) created a system entitled KRM Appliances Marketing
Sales and Inventory System came out that the perception of the respondents with
respect to error handling indicated that the system can handle error and limit error of
the system.
The above studies are related with the study because they are all about the
level performance of the system in terms of error-handling.

27
User-friendliness
Sanvictores J, et al. (2008), ccreated a system entitled Laguna State
Polytechnic University (LSPU) E-Map perceived that user friendliness computed
with A general weighted mean of 4.11 with the standard deviation of 0.077 and was
interpreted as agree.
Conde, et al. (2010), in their study Interactive Mobile Map of Nagcarlan,
Laguna (IMMN) revealed that the software satisfies the users and gives information
correctly as reflected by the weighted mean of 4.13, standard deviation of 0.571 and
verbally interpreted as Agree. It also gives that the user can easily adapt with the
systems environment as a result by the general weighted mean of 4.30, standard
deviation of 0.535 and verbally interpreted as Agree.
Buan, et al. (2011), as cited in their study, Virtual SPED (Special Education)
System that the user-friendliness developed the capturing, storing, manipulating,
analyzing to build a data and information, it must be accessible and available to
users when and where needed in a form that is understandable by the users.
The above studies were interrelated with the study because all of them dealt
with the user-friendly interface designed of the system.
Security
Elona, et al. (2008), as stated in their thesis entitled, Pedro Guevara
Memorial National High School (PGMNHS) Website, they revealed that the
respondents strongly agreed that system was secured as reflected in the computed
weighted mean score of 4.66 and standard deviation of 0.509.

28
Flaviano, et al. (2009), created system entitled DOST Scholarship Inquiry
System described security as the keeping of information personally according to the
data involved. They automatically compiled the record like scholar inquiries with the
security of the files has been recorded.
Coronado, et al. (2008), in their thesis entitled LSPU-SCC Inactive File
System, showed that the respondents perceived that the system security of the
system was high as reflected by the computed weighted mean of 4.37 with the
standard deviation of 0.531 in the five-point scale and verbally interpreted as Agree.
The above studies are related to the study since it also discussed security.
System
According to www.iias.edu (2010), in the study of the International Institute for
Advanced Studies in Systems Research and Cybernetics (I.I.A.S.) is a non-profit,
non-sectarian educational organization committed to the development and
promotion of Cybernetics and Systems Research in all areas of human endeavour. It
is devoted to the advancement of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary studies in the
sciences, engineering, arts and humanities. The Institute aims to encourage and
facilitate interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary communication and cooperation
amongst scholars, scientists, engineers, educators and professionals working in
different fields, and to develop those areas of research that will most benefit from
such cooperation.
According to hotelmule.com (2008), Service delivery system is a unique
aspect of any service industry, to which tourism belongs, is the service delivery

29
system. This term covers those aspects of the operation which take place at the time
that a customer or client comes to the service point and requests a specific service.
The delivery system is designed to provide the customer with the required variety of
services and with the minimum delay. A common feature of delivery systems is the
customer line or queue. A key aspect of any system is to control the length of
queues.
The above studies are related to the study since those were also discussing
about system.
Programming Tools
XAMPP
As cited in the cloudcomputingcourse.com (2011), XAMPP provides a handson workshop illustrating the concepts and practical actions associated with
deployment and development of a traditional LAMPP (Linux, Apache, MySQL,
Perl/PHP, Python) application on Amazon Web Serves Elastic Compute Cloud (AWS
EC2). While the term "cloud computing" is widely known, its characteristics,
architectural constraints, and details of application life cycle are less widely
understood. The Unitek Education Cloud Computing Architecture Workshop clears
the fog regarding cloud computing and enables organization technologists to clearly
grasp the potential of cloud computing for their future IT initiatives and the impact it
may have on their application life cycle management.
According to pcworld.com (2011), XAMPP is designed to be a development
server in a box. There are many other WAMP packages, but XAMPP for Windows is
among the most complete and easiest to install. This does however come at the

30
expense of security, so XAMPP is not meant to be used as a production server. The
authors at Apache Friends specifically warn against doing so, although if you insist
on making your server Web accessible they do provide a nice guide and utility for
partially locking it down. In addition to Apache, MySQL, and PHP, XAMPP includes
the phpMyAdmin database administration tool, FileZilla FTP server, Mercury mail
server, Perl programming language, and JSP server Tomcat. You can start, stop, and
configure these services in the XAMPP control panel which launches from the tray.
XAMPP also installs an admin site as the home page of the server. From here you
can check the server status and security, launch tools such as phpMyAdmin and
Webalizer analytics, and view PHP demos which are particularly useful for beginning
developers.
The above studies are related to the study because those are also discusses
XAMPP.
Macromedia Dreamweaver
A case study in Penn Manor School District in Pennsylvania, USA cited that
Macromedia Dreamweaver and Flash have allowed me to create a website thats
easy to use and very effective, says Technology Director Charlie Reisinger. Weve
been able to bring together all of the people who cared about the education of
children and to communicate more effectively with them. Technology Education
Instructor Shawn Canady, who teaches courses in Penn Manor High Schools digital
design curriculum, has seen his Computer Animation course grow from 54 to 104
students in the last two years. His Fundamentals of Web Design class is popular
with students who have academic interests in all areas.

31
According to www.cua.uprm.edu (2010), Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 is the
industry-leading web development tool, enabling users to efficiently design, develop
and maintain standards-based websites and applications. A world-class design and
code editor in a single tool, Dreamweaver 8 is designed for the most advanced web
developers, as well as for the less experienced. All-in-one design and code editor to
support the way you work. Build standards-based sites using rich visual tools for
XHTML and CSS. Integrate XML-based data with a powerful, visual, drag-and-drop
workflow. Dreamweaver supports and guides users as their skills grow and web
technologies evolve, facilitating easy and quick adoption of new technologies and
methodologies. You don't need to be an advanced developer to take advantage of
the many industry-leading features of Dreamweaver 8. Adding Flash Video, for
instance, is a cinch. In fact, you can add Flash Video to any site with fewer than five
clicks of a mouse. Simply point Dreamweaver to any Flash Video file, selects the
playback controls to surface on the page, and get rolling.
The above studies are related to the study because those are also describing
the Macromedia Dreamweaver.
Adobe Photoshop CS3
As cited in the proprofs.com (2005), Adobe Photoshop is an absolute leader
among professional graphic editors due to its wide facilities, high performance and
work speed. The program offers all the necessary means for correction, installation,
images preparation for printing and high-quality outprint. The main purpose of the
program Adobe Photoshop is photo and accurate images creation, work with color
scanned images, retouching, color compensation, collaging, transformation, color

32
separation and others. Adobe Photoshop uses all methods of working with point
images; on the whole it has an opportunity to work with layers and uses loops.
Whats new (in CS3): faster work in comparison with CS2; Windows Vista support;
using of some facilities of 64-bit systems; and new interface.
As mentioned in codeweavers.com (2011), Adobe Photoshop, or simply
Photoshop, is a graphics editor developed and published by Adobe Systems. It is the
current market leader for commercial bitmap and image manipulation, and is the
flagship product of Adobe Systems
The above studies are related to the study since those are also about the
Adobe Photoshop.
Online Ordering
According to www.caterersearch.com (2007), the Real ale and technology are
subjects not normally mentioned in the same breath, but Greene King is determined
to change that. The pub operator recently introduced an online ordering system and
messaging tool designed to support its tenanted and leased partners in the effective
running of its businesses.
According to Sue Thomas-Taylor - commercial director of Greene King Pub
Partners, the part of the business that looks after tenanted and leased pubs - the
main advantage of the online ordering service is that it allows licensees to place their
orders at a time that suits them.Traditionally, landlords had to order over the phone
via telesales operatives who worked only in normal office hours. Many found this
inconvenient, as it meant they had to take time out from running a busy pub to go
through what could sometimes be a lengthy process. Thomas-Taylor insists that the

33
system has not been installed with a view to eventually replacing the telesales
operation. All establishments ordering online still receive a call to check that
everything is in order with their requisition. "And," she adds, "even two or three years
down the line, when the system is established, we still intend to have telesales to
keep in touch with landlords, or for those who would rather order by phone."
The above studies are related to the study because those are also involved
with online ordering.
Customer
According to library.customerservicezone.com (2004), when E - Customer
Service - Customer Service site was created this serve as a great help in knowing
the demands of the customers and this also serve as the stepping stone in knowing
what the customers feel about the product they purchased. E - Customer Service Customer Service via the Internet: More and more customer contact occurs through
the Internet, via websites and email. Learn more about how companies are
delivering top quality service through the Internet.
As cited in vmware.com (2010), based on the case study of VMware is the
proven choice for virtualization from the desktop to the data center. Customers of all
sizes, including all of the Fortune 100, trust VMware as their virtualization
infrastructure platform. More than 85% of customers use VMware solutions in
production environments.
The above studies are relevant to the study since those also emphasize the
meaning of customer.

Homepage
According to homepage.net (2007), homepage undertakes a huge variety of
work, including full-service ecommerce, production and distribution of online video,
construction of secure members-only systems to access privately held data, and rollout of web projects to mobile platforms and apps.
According to techterms.com (2009), homepage is the starting point or front
page of a Web site. This page usually has some sort of table of contents on it and
often

describes

the

purpose

of

the

site.

For

example,

http://www.apple.com/index.html is the home page of Apple.com. When you type in a

basic URL, such as "http://www.cnet.com," you are typically directed to the home
page of the Web site. Many people have a "personal home page," which is another
way the term "home page" can be used.
According to businessdictionary.com (2010), homepage is the main page of
a website which

gives detailed information on

its owner and provides links to

its

other parts. Usually it is the first page seen by every visitor, but some sites (such as
those of newspapers or portals) display a fresh page everyday, custom-tailored to
the individual visitor's preferences.
The above studies are related to the study since those also dealt with the
description of homepage.
Footwear
As mentioned in startup-review.com (2009), when Nick founded Zappos.com
he was turned away by almost all VCs because no one believed that shoes were a
good product to sell online. After all, who would buy shoes without being able to try

35
them on first? However, Nick stuck to his guns, backed by the fact that shoes are a
$40B market in the US with $2B sold via mail order catalogs. So why did Nick turn
out to be right? Most importantly, shoes turned out to be great for SEM for several
reasons. For one, people search for shoes by brand. Zappos.com didnt need to
spend advertising dollars to build the Zappos.com brand; they only needed to get a
consumer to click on an ad for Rockport or Vans shoes. Zappos.com also didnt
need to educate consumers about their product people knew shoes. Furthermore,
shoes are high ticket items with good margins. The average order on Zappos.com is
~$100 and gross margins on shoes are ~50%. This leaves a lot of wiggle room for
SEM campaigns. In addition to SEM, the high ticket price and brand loyalty
associated with shoes also lends itself to successful affiliate marketing. Zappos.com
has 17,000 affiliates driving traffic and shoe sales to their site.
The above study is relatedto the study because it tackles about footwear.

Chapter 3
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the research design, population and sampling
technique, research procedure, research instrument and statistical treatment. They
serve as the pattern or basis of the proponents to achieve its prime goal.

Research Design
In constructing a certain type of software one has to know the importance of
collecting ideas from the people who will be using it. It can be viewed based on
individuals project from the automated program.
The researchers the descriptive methods of research based on Azagra
(2010), he defined descriptive method as involving the collection of data in order to
test the hypothesis or to answer questions concerning the state of the subject of the
study.
The researchers had chosen the descriptive method since it involves
gathering of data information. We had followed the SDLC to ensure that all the
requirements in creating the system were met. The SDLC is the systematic process
that has five (5) phases, the planning phase, analysis phase, design phase,
development phase, and the implementation phase.
The planning and Analysis phases involved defining the resources, timelines
and other related project information. The proponents analyzed the footwear store

38
and suggest solutions to the problem they encountered. Constraints on the process
were identified and detailed management plan was drawn up.

Research Procedures
In order for the proponents to come up with the proposed system various
steps of data was conducted. The researchers asked permission from the owner of
MATs Footwear to conduct this kind of study. Interviews and observation were
conducted. The researchers then start to develop the system.
In developing the software, the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) was
used. SDLC is a step by step process in which the researchers followed during the
system analysis and design of the system; it includes five (5) phases:
1. Planning phase, 2. Analysis phase, 3. Design phase. 4. Development phase 5.
Evaluation phase.
First, the planning phase in which the proponents recognized and define the
problems. A study was conducted to assess the scope of the problem and prepare a
plan of action. Next was the analysis phase which involves the gathering data,
conducting interviews, collecting documents and all kinds of information that the
system will process. Followed by the design phase. In designing the system, both
the input and output records were prepared, layouts and file specifications were
written. The researchers have designed the levels, structures, features have been
prepared.
Next was the development phase. The phase where the system was built and
made for testing. The system was presented to the respondents to determine the

39
overall performance. The researchers further modified the system through trial and
error. Lastly was the evaluation phase. The MATs Footwear Online Ordering and
Delivery System had been tested and ensured that the design specifications were
met. Afterwards, final changes and modifications were incorporated in the system.
The researchers had used the questionnaire-checklist, which have been
distributed to the respondents. The researchers have installed the software to be
evaluated by the respondents and test the performance of the system. After, the
respondents have been oriented to carefully answer questions based on their
perception. Questionnaires were collected and scores were tabulated and were
given to the statistician for tabulation, analysis and interpretation of the results.

Research Instrument
After administering the testing, the proponents gathered the data which then
were analyzed. The weighted mean and standard deviation were used to determine
the level of the perception on the overall performance of the system.
To determine the effectiveness of the system, a questionnaire-checklist was
developed through integration of various criteria. The criteria include the systems
usability, system design, error handling, user-friendliness and security. The
researchers developed instrument and sought the help of the thesis adviser for
checking. Revisions were done for finalizing the checklist, from the selected
respondents.
Statistical Treatment
The data gathered from the respondents were tabulated, evaluated and
analyzed. The researchers used the frequency and percentage in order to determine

40
the status of the programming tools used in developing the system. The researchers
used the weighted mean and standard deviation as the statistical tools to determine
the level of perception of the respondents on the performance of the MATS
Footwear online Ordering and Delivery System.
After the computation of weighted mean, responses were interpreted in terms
of the system usability, design, error handling, user-friendliness and security by
using the following scale:

PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA
This chapter discusses the presentation, analysis and interpretation of data.
The data were presented in accordance with the statement of the problem.
The status of the Programming Tools used in Developing the System:
The following were the results of the status of the programming tools used in
creating/developing the system. It shows the status of programming tools used in
developing the website, the frequency and the percentage distribution as perceived
by the respondents.
In Table 2, it indicates that among thirty (30) respondents, one hundred
percent (100%) respondents answered that the programming tools were
Appropriate in developing the system. There was none among the respondents
answered that the programming tools were Less Appropriate in developing the
system and no one or zero percent (0%) answered that the programming tools were
Not Appropriate.
The programming tools that were used in developing the system were
Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop CS3 and XAMPP. Those were the
major software used in developing the system. Macromedia Dreamweaver was used
to design the interfaces of the system. Adobe Photoshop CS3 was used in editing
graphics/images in the system.

The study aimed to develop the MATs Footwear Online Ordering and
Delivery System as an aid in providing the MATs Footwear a systematic and
convenient manner of ordering through online and delivering its products.
Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: 1.) What is the status of the
programming tools used in developing the system? 2.) What is the level of the
performance of the system as perceived by the respondents in terms of system
usability, system design, error-handling, user-friendliness and security? 3.) What is
the overall performance of the system as perceived by the respondents?
The researchers prepared to use the Descriptive Method of Research in
conducting an investigation. The researchers prepared the dependent and
independent variables. The dependent variable contains the Performance of MATs
Footwear Online Ordering and Delivery System in terms of system usability, system
design, error-handling, user-friendliness and security. The independent variable was
consists of programming tools such as Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe
Photoshop CS3 and XAMPP. It also includes the system contents such as online
ordering, customer, homepage, footwear and delivery. The researchers used a
purposive sampling in evaluating the study. Purposive sampling is being used to
access a particular subset of people.
The researchers sent a request letter to the owner of the MATs Footwear.
The letter was requested to conduct the study entitled MATs Footwear Online
Ordering and Delivery System. Interviews were followed. The purpose of the
interview was to gather the information needed for developing the system.

53
References like books and browsing the internet were also done to create ideas to
serve as a background necessary for the development of the system.
After the development of the system, the researchers conducted an
evaluation of the system in order to determine the performance of the system if it
has achieved its intended goal. It was evaluated by (30) respondents; those were
came from the owner of the footwear together with her family members, workers
from the footwear and also from the customers. The researchers used
questionnaire-checklists to assess the performance of the system.
The researchers used a questionnaire-checklist as the tool in evaluating the
performance of the system based on the different criteria in terms of usability,
design, error-handling, user-friendliness and security. The questionnaire-checklists
were developed by the researchers and were presented to their thesis adviser for
the content validation which was beneficial for the enhancement of the research
instrument. Then statistical treatment was used to analyzed and interpret the data
given by the respondents. In determining the performance of the system the
researchers used the frequency, percentage, weighted mean, standard deviation
and verbal interpretation. In determining the status of the programming tools used in
developing the system, the researchers used the frequency and percentage. In
determining the level of performance of the system, the researchers used the
weighted mean and standard deviation. In determining the overall performance of
the system, as perceived by the respondents the researchers used the general
weighted mean.

54
After collecting the filled-up questionnaire-checklists, the researchers
tabulated, analyzed and interpreted the result by computing the performance of the
system. And the spreadsheet application was used to compute the statistical results
of the study. Then, it was presented to the Statistician for checking and validation of
the computations.

Findings
The findings of the study were as follows:
1. Mean level of perception of the respondents on:
1.1 Usability. The respondents agreed that the system is usable as reflected
in the computed weighted mean score 4.33, standard deviation of 0.702
and verbally interpreted as Highly Usable in a 5 level scale.
1.2 System Design. The respondents agreed that the system is effectively
designed as reflected in the computed weighted mean score 4.32,
standard deviation of 0.673 and verbally interpreted as Excellently
Designed in a 5 level scale.
1.3 Error-handling. The respondents agreed that the system is can handle
incorrect input as reflected in the computed weighted mean score 4.33,
standard deviation of 0.690 and verbally interpreted as Excellent in a 5
level scale.
1.4 User-friendliness. The respondents agreed that the system is user friendly
can handle incorrect input as reflected in the computed weighted mean
score 4.30, standard deviation of 0.630 and verbally interpreted as Highly
User-friendly in a 5 level scale.

55
1.5 Security. The respondents agreed that the system is well-secured as
reflected in the computed weighted mean score 4.34, standard deviation
of 0.655 and verbally interpreted as Highly Secured in a 5 level scale.
2. The respondents agreed that the system is usable, excellently designed, can
handle error, user friendly and well-secured as perceived with the general
weighted mean of 4.33 as verbal interpretation of agree and general standard
deviation of 0.670 and verbally interpreted as Highly Satisfactory.
Conclusion
The researchers concluded that the MATs Footwear Online Ordering and
Delivery System is highly usable, excellently designed, can handle errors, highly
user friendly and highly secured.
Recommendations
From the findings and conclusion of the study, the following recommendations
were hereby given:
1. Since the study is concerned with the process of ordering through online, the
researchers suggest that more unique designs, graphics and effects which
are presentable be added. It is recommended to enhance the system by
expanding its coverage and capabilities.
2. Future researchers may use other suited programming languages for the
further enhancement of the study.
