TOPIC # 23 : SHOULD WE ALLOW SAME SEX MARRIAGE?

PRO

ANTI

1. Same-sex marriage is not only about what is

right or wrong. It is only part of the process
homosexuals have to go through to get an
equal share of what life can give. They are
asking to have the same sunlight shining on
their faces as the heterosexuals have and the
same shade to go under when the sun is too
strong.

1. Philippines is a country denominated by

conservative Roman Catholics who believes
that same sex marriage is against the natural
law as well as to our family code especially art
1 which gives an emphasis to the UNION
BETWEEN MAN AND A WOMAN.

2. Homosexuality is an accepted lifestyle

nowadays with most evidence strongly
supporting biological causation. Legalizing
same sex marriage will be a big help for
orphanages since same sex partners cannot
pro-create which would probably brought them
to adopting orphans. The only thing that should
matter in marriage is love.

2. According to the revised Philippine Constitution

of 1987 Marriage, as an inviolable social
institution, is the foundation of the family
and shall be protected by the State (Art.
XV, Sec. 2). One of the purposes of family in
the society is to produce citizen who will
continue the existential lineage. In other words,
married couple should produce following
citizens but exemption is given to parties who
are impotent or incapable of bearing a child
due to some circumstances.

3. To bar the lesbians, the gays and the

transsexuals from the civil right to marry would
violate the guarantee of equal protection, the
denial of the right to marry insofar as LGBTs
are concerned also intrudes into the right to
privacy which is a fundamental right, same
sex marriage, now is recognized by a majority
of states in the US, could be justified under
Philippine laws that are also based on
American jurisprudence.

3. Same-sex marriage should not be legalized in

the Philippines because if we allow it, it is
legalizing something immoral, and this means
legalizing a crime.

4. Let's give everybody a chance for happiness.

Let's not discriminate. If it is your inclination to
be happy with a man, why discriminate against
that? In other countries couples of the same
sex who have lived very upright lives and
raised children.

4. Legalizing same sex marriage would mean

revising the Constitution, the Civil Code, the
Family Code, and the concept and nature of
marriage. Our country cannot afford such big
change in the laws. It would not be easy for
everyone, because legalizing such act would
affect the people governed by such laws. Its
legalization will start the corruption of the
minds of the people, especially the children.
