III. Comment on three cultural symbols of Great Britain, e.g. monarchy, Big Ben, football,
road traffic, etc. (at least 10 lines)
Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of
Westminster in London, Great Britain. The clock has become an important symbol of the United
Kingdom, particularly in the visual media. For example, when a television or film-maker wishes
to indicate a generic location in the country, a popular way to do so is to show an image of the
tower.
The monarchy of the United Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy. The monarch's title is
"King" (male) or "Queen" (female). The British monarchy has its own peculiarities as the
monarch and his or her immediate family undertake various official, ceremonial, diplomatic and
representational duties, he is limited to non-partisan functions such as bestowing honours and
appointing the Prime Minister. The monarch is, by tradition, commander-in-chief of the British
Armed Forces.
Football is organised on a separate basis in each of the four countries of the United Kingdom,
with each having a national football association responsible for the management of football
within their respective country. There is no United Kingdom national football team. It has been
the most popular sport in the United Kingdom since the 1860s.
