Magazine Analysis

This is the contents page from fashion magazine, Vogue. Their target audience is woman aged 34
and are published by Conde Nast.
As you can see it follows all conventions such as publishing special features, cover stories, images
promoting their magazine and what they will find further inside, regular articles and subscription.
Minor conventions such as title of the
magazine, date, title: contents, etc.
are also included. Theyve kept to
basic yet effective colours that
represent their genre of magazine
(fashion). Orange is used for the
important sources such as where to
find cover stories, etc Black is one of
the main text colours providing
further information on each article
that they shall find inside. Its also the
colour of Vogue at the top of the page
which is the title of the magazine.
White is the main background colour
and is also proposed inside the image
labelling what page the image is from.
Some of the font is bold, italicised and
normal. There are also dividers in
place dividing the subscription from
the rest of the contents page.
It is most common for Vogue
magazines to place their images in
rectangle form instead of spreading it
across the page. Its set behind the
title and cuts out half way through it.
The title interrupts the image but the face of the model is not where the loop from the letter G is
producing a statement here.
The model is looking away but pushes her body towards us. Her makeup compliments her outfit and
the grey, plain background emphasises that she is our main focus point. The image taken is high key
producing artificial light in a studio.
From the amount of stories issued it is clear that Vogue is issued monthly, as well as knowing this
from research. You can also tell this from the page numbers varying up to 171+.
Im highly inspired by the ideas that Vogue produce within their issues. The style and composition
always works well and is suitable for their target audience.
