Personal Statement
Securing a position in one of the top ranked research institutions would offer me a unique
opportunity to make a positive impact in addressing the obesity epidemic, which is a major
health issue today. Personally, I have been a victim of the obesity epidemic as a result of the fast
food industry in Kuwait. I knew that the obesity problem can be solved when I lost 53 pounds
just in two months. This experience did not only have a significant positive impact on my life,
but also in the lives of others who saw this as a source of intrinsic motivation. After losing that
much weight, I was finally eligible to join my high school's soccer team, and I played soccer
throughout my last two years at the school. I am determined to continue playing soccer even at
Penn State. Each day, I continue to offer useful advice to people on how I successfully managed
to transition from an overweight person to a physically fit individual. Penn State is the best
option for me to continue growing as an individual and get the best knowledge so that I may
continue to positively influence many Kuwaitis and others that I will meet across the globe. My
goal is to remain in Penn State until I graduate with a PhD degree. Upon completion of my PhD
degree, I intend to be a professor at the University of Kuwait where I will have the opportunity to
educate many people on the physiological levels of the human body and how proper nutrition
can transform a poor body into a properly structured and functional one. To be able to deliver the
best quality education to students, I have to learn from the best, and this can only be offered at

Penn State. Securing a chance at Penn State would fulfill my lifelong dream to make an impact
not only on my life, but also on that of others. With a few male nutritionists in Kuwait, I have to
prepare for the job.
Activities
At school, I have had the honor of serving as a senator of the kinesiology, health, and
athletic departments. My main role was to inform the student government of the issues faced by
these departments both in class and in the field. With the support of other senators from our
departments, we convened meetings on a weekly basis. During these meetings, we came up with
ideas on how to increase our fan base and offer support whenever any of our teams was playing.
We also organized events that involved meeting with cheerleaders and the school`s
commissioners in charge of the athletics department to set up booths and demonstrate to students
how the IVC Lazers were not getting sufficient support. We equally demonstrated that a win was
only possible through team work, and we considered our fans to be part of the team. As a way of
attracting more fans to our team while at the same time creating revenue for the school, we
introduced a new initiative through which students who showed up at the stands and purchased a
given number of stamp cards would qualify for a discount in the school's cafeteria. This initiative
was a huge success and it resulted in many people showing up every week to support our team. I
am determined to be even more active in this endeavor once I get accepted at Penn State. So far,
I am a member of two committees, one of them being the South Orange County District
Committee. As a voting member of this committee, I have the opportunity to make my voice
heard on academic matters.
