Awesome Readers in EVERY GRADE: First trimester is over and we have our Accelerated Reader word count top

Mrs. Andersons First Graders for reading 875, 036 words, Ms. Harrys Second Graders for reading 3,076, 583
words, Mrs. Coles Third Graders for reading 5,765,883 words, Mrs. Stackels Fourth Graders for reading 12,211,177 words,
and Mr. Shafrans Fifth Graders for reading 17,754,215 words.
Attendance WOW: Did you know that DMC had 131 students who earned perfect attendance for first semester? Second
grade had the highest number of perfect attendance recipients, with Fifth Grade in second place, and Fourth Grade in third
place! Great job Cox Cubs! As a school, we had 452 students who had exemplary attendance; missing 0-3 days the entire
semester.
PTA News: Thank you to our wonderful PTA, they have purchased half of the soccer goals and gym-n-ee hoops! They have
also purchased a new letter-cutting program for our building, and beautiful new trophy cases so we can show-case
our student projects! Thank you PTA! This week is our monthly DMC Dinner Date: Friday, 2/27, at the Dairy
Queen on Windmill and Pecos! Thank you families for your sweet support!
Great Fourth Grade Nevadans: Congratulations to the following students to become the first group of our Cubs to earn the
Fourth Grade Great Nevadan Award: Corinn Sloop, Kara Ballou, Max Segal, Parker Cromwell, Noah Wong, and
Kennedi Logan.
Learning Excursion Updates: Did you know that our Second Graders recently attended the Flat Stanley performance at
the beautiful Smith Center? Or, that our Third Graders are about to venture to the Discovery Childrens Museum for a day of
learning experiments?

NEVADA READING WEEK IS MARCH 2-6TH!

Next week kicks off Nevada Reading Week where we celebrate the joys of reading! The theme
this year in CCSD is

Got Books?...BE a Superhero, Read!

The activities are as follows:
Daily drawings for students to Barnes N Noble Store, Drop Everything and Read, Guest Readers
in the classrooms, Reading Bingo, Reading Redbox, Mystery Readers, and our
Library Book Fair is open!
Dress-up Days:
Monday: Hats off to reading hat day
Tuesday: Cozy up with a good book pajama day
Wednesday: Word-up wear clothing with as many words on it you can find
Thursday: Character Day dress like your favorite character
Friday: Be a HeroRead hero/cape day
Our week finishes up with the Academic Fair on Friday, March 6, 2015 from 5:30-7:00 pm,
with student work being showcased, learning activities from each grade level, our Honor Choir
performing, the Book Fair in the Library, and DMC Club booths to visit!

SAFETY ALERT: Parents, please follow our campus lot procedures of NOT TURNING LEFT OUT OF THE
PARKING LOT! Every day, we are having people drive INTO the EXIT, turn left, and park over the sidewalk
which prevents us from crossing our kids! We have 623 students to get off of only 4 exit locations on our property and
only one general education bus that means that approximately 500 students are requiring vehicle drop-off/pick-up. Thats a
lot of cars! Please follow our safety standards.
Professional Read Opportunity: Our professional book for this year is called Mindsets in the Classroom,
by Mary Cay Ricci. Our teachers will be reading this through the month of March and implementing the concepts
presented within our classrooms. If you would like to be part of our professional read, please sign up at
Academic Night and the designated table in the hallway. The cost of the book will be $10.00 and the school will
cover the remaining amount. We will be having book discussions, presentations on chapters, and applications to
our classrooms throughout the months of April and May.
