Introduction
Dear Upasaka Bhandhus,
With the blessings of the Gurumandalam and the Will of Lalitha tripurasundari
parabhattarika, I am pleased to bring forward the monthly issue called PURNANANDA
LAHARI starting this Vijaya Year. The vasantha navaratri starts on the 10th April in
America and 11th April in India. As vasantha navarathri is attributed to Lalitha
parameshwari, it is indeed a blessing to start this monthly issue on this day.
The thought of bringing such an issue sprouted when I was doing my japas on the
banks of Ganga at Kashi last year. I shared this thought with my Guru Dampathis and
they immediately gave the permission to proceed with this effort. My Pujaguru Shri
Anandananthanatha, in spite of his health troubles, has kindly provided the
Gurumukham for this first issue. My pranams to His holy padukas. xum

Shri Chidanandanatha and Shri Purnanandanatha have been communicating the Shri
vidhya related informations through weekly/monthly discourses and magazines. Shri
Chidanandanatha started the magazine called "Shri Vidya" and after his merging with
Lalitha, Shri Purnandhanatha continued the magazine for a while. Due to financial and
logical difficulties in releasing such printed materials in those days, the magazine was
discontinued. If there had been technical advancements like today in those days, we
would have seen more communiques from these great masters. I wanted to continue
the tradition that existed within our Gurumandalam and use this as a medium of
information sharing of the Shri Vidhya related information among the sadhakas. The
magazine is aptly named Purnananda lahari as this would have the same goals of the
Shri Vidhya magazine lastly managed by Shri Purnanandanatha. It can also be
interpreted as the flow of nectar called Shri Vidhya being passed on from my
Paramaguru Purnanandanatha to my pujyaguru Anandanandanatha and then to the
future generations. Let this nectar of Shri vidhya fill the needs of all like minded

The first content of this issue is the Devi Mana Ashtangam. This will be included in all
the issues. As Devi Upasakas, it is important that the Devi Ashtanga sankalpam is used
everyday prior to performing Pujas or japas. The ashtangam does not change based on
where we live and hence upasakas all over the world can do their sankalpam based on
the English calendar itself. In addition, details of parva days within the month, and
vishesha parvas will be provided for both India and US dates.
The two primary themes in this issue are Shri Guru and Shri Rama. As
BhavanOpaniShad rightly states, Shri Guru: sarvakAraNabhUtAshakti: (
xuMUhpiz)
The photo of Kameshwara and Kameshwari that is included in this issue is from the Adi
Lalitha cave that is located in the Lalitha Shaktipeeth temple in Naimisharanyam. This is
a rare pose where both Kameshwara and Kameshwari are looking at each other and
the Panchabrahmas are seen holding the Asana with Sadashiva with multiple hands in
the middle. It is really a treat to see this carved into a cave wall.
Finally, this is a humble effort from my side to share thoughts with upasakas. This
requires usage of Sanskrit, English, and Tamil Fonts and put them all together into a
book format. I have done my best to check for errors and ommissions within the short
timeframe. If any of you see any mistakes, please point it out so that I can correct it and
include those corrections in the next issue.
I hope you all find this to be a valuable addition to the Upasaka community.
Lalithai vedam sarvam.

Uq
Let us now look into the meaning of the six letter mantra :
U Uqr lq
This can be split as follows:
U + A + q +
U
U + q + r
lq
being the Agni BijA, represents the Prakasha - the Sat, Chit, Ananda nature of the
Paramatma. U denotes the unchanging brahmam and the vowel A denotes the energy
of manifestation.
q represents maya, the satvic nature of Ishwara Himself. The Bindu or anushwara
( ) represents the Purusha in the form of Shiva-surya-indu form, the jyothi as its crest
(shikha) and nAdam (sound) as the prakriti.
Thus, the Rama mantra U represents the satchitananda state of the paratma, the
manisfestation energy, the formation of the prusuha and the prakriti.
Just as the seed contains the secret encoding of the great banyan tree, similary the
Rama mantra seed contains the secret encoding of the great universe and beyond.
61
U stands for Tat; q stands for Tvam; the concatenation (the letter formed by the
chaturthhi vibhakti) r stands for "Asi".
Thus U Uqr lq represents the universal seed (U) which denotes the brahmam as
the sat chit ananda prakasha state, ever illuminating, and always ready to liberate the
aspirants from the veil of ignorance (maya) by making them experience the maha
vakhya tat tvam asi (You are that).
Hanuman further states that the constant analysis (anusandhanam) of maha vakhyas
like Tatvamasi simply grants the liberation (mukti); wheareas the 6 letter mantra of
Rama is capable of granting all the purusharthas as it contains the seed of the universe
and beyond. They will become Jivan Mukthas in this life itself there is no reason to
doubt this statement.
In addition, those who constantly chant the Rama mantra and dissolves themselves in
the
UqWqx
(I am Rama) bhava, lives like Rama and are truly Rama Himself.
