Beautiful Examples Of Jesus Disciples
I. A Background of These Examples
1. Jesus had taught His disciples such as Peter and Andrew, James and John,
Philip and Matthew, etc. for about three years
2. Before His Ascension He told them to Go, make disciples..... baptize
them....TEACH THEM TO OBSERVE ALL THAT I COMMANDED
YOU(Matthew 28:19)
a. These disciples KNEW what Jesus had taught them
b. The Holy Spirit would bring to their memory ALL that Jesus
had spoken to them (John 14:26; 16:13)
c. When about 3,000 people were baptized on Pentecost, they devoted
themselves to the apostles teaching.... (Acts 2:42)
3. Did these new disciples really become like the disciples that Jesus trained?

II. The Church in the Book of Acts, Jerusalem and Other Places
1. When they heard that Jesus is Lord and Christ, and were cut to the
heart, they were commanded to repent and be baptized ...... (Acts
2:36-38)
2. About 3,000 were baptized
(Acts 2:41)
3. NOTE the KIND OF LIFE THEY LIVED
(Acts 2:42-47)
a. A worshiping life --- devoted to the apostles teaching, fellowship,
the breaking of the bread, and prayers
(Acts 2:42)
b. A sharing and caring life --- concern for other disciples. They
shared their possessions with those in need
(Acts 2:44, 45; 4:32-37)
c. A life spent together --- they ate together
(Acts 2:46)
d. A happy life --- they were praising God
(Acts 2:47)
4. NOTE the very beautiful spirit or ATTITUDE the apostles had:
a. They had a deep conviction about the Lord. There is salvation in no
other name than Jesus
(Acts 4:11, 12)
b. They had a feeling of urgency --- They must preach Christ NOW!
(Acts 5:17-21)
c. They had a wonderful boldness in their preaching. They were not
afraid
(Acts 4:13, 19, 20, 29)
5. When the church was scattered through Judea and Samaria, and the apostles
stayed in Jerusalem, the Christians went everywhere preaching the
Word (Acts 8:4). They had the same spirit as the apostles!

6. The Church in Acts EMPHASIZED CHRIST!

7. The Church in Acts practiced EVANGELISM

a. Jerusalem was filled with the teaching of Christ
(Acts 5:28)
b. Every day, in the temple and in houses, they preached Christ
(Acts 5:42)
c. Philip took the gospel to Samaria
(Acts 8:5-25)
d. The gospel was taken to Antioch, Cyprus and all over the Roman
Empire
(Acts 11-28)

III. A Beautiful Example Of Disciples At Thessalonica

1. This congregation was begun on Pauls second journey
(Acts 17:1-9)
2. Their life was a work that came out of faith, a labor that came
from their love, and a perseverance that came from their hope
(I Thessalonians 1:3)
3. These NEW CHRISTIANS IMITATED JESUS!
a. They imitated Paul and the Lord
(I Thessalonians 1:6)
b. Paul made himself a model for them to follow
(II Thessalonians 3:9)
4. Their faith was trumpeted over that part of the world
(I Thessalonians 1:7, 8)
5. Notice how this spirit of evangelism is imitating Christ
(Revelation 3:20)
6. These people had made a VERY RADICAL CHANGE in their life
a. They had turned to God from idols
b. To serve the living and true God
c. And, to wait for His Son from heaven

(I Thessalonians 1:9,10)

A man named Wiersbe said that we should worship God, love people, and use
things. However, man seems to worship things, use people, love self and
leave God completely out of the picture. LET US BE REAL DISCIPLES OF
JESUS!
