To have a better chance of being successful as a postal bidder we recommend setting a limit for the total amount of your
purchases (excl. 19.5% buyers premium): for example, bidding on a range of lots with a total amount of CHF 10’000 and setting
a limit of CHF 7’500 for your purchases means that the total for lots knocked down to you will not exceed the limit you have set.
We know from experience that postal bidders are rarely successful on all lots. On the other hand, you might have been interested
in other lots as well, but not knowing which lots would be knocked down to you and being worried to spend more than a certain
amount, you did not bid on them. Giving a total purchase limit (see also the Bid Form in this catalogue) enables you to have
a better chance of being a more successful postal bidder!

The ‘Red Eagle’ Second provisional issue is one of the rarest of all
Chinese stamp issues in existence and a fascinating chapter in Chinese
philately, comparable only to the Chinese ‘Red Revenues’ from 1897
having a similar background of their existence:
- a provisional emergency issue due
to a shortage of stamps of certain
denomination/currency
- overprinted/surcharged
- basic stamp in red colour.
Second Provisional Issue:
Surcharge ‘5 Pf.‘ on the
upper four stamps. Lower Second Provisional Issue:
stamp with additional ‘5 Pf.‘ Surcharge error ‘5 fP.‘ (instead ‘5 Pf.‘)
handstamp (see lot 126) double printed, plus ‘5 Pf.‘ handstamp
over value tablet (see lot 125)
‘Red Eagle’ provisional: Basic stamp overprint surcharge Michel cat. Scott cat.
