DOG BREEDS SPECIAL REGULATIONS EXTRACT

INTRODUCTION
In all dog shows the welfare of the dogs must have absolute priority.

ADMISSION OF DOGS
Art.4
The only breeds and varieties which can be shown in events to be held in Italy are those
specified in the list of breeds recognized by the FCI, as from the enclosure n.1 of this
regulation.
The Organizing Committees must ensure that the only breeds that will be reported in the
catalogue are those for which breed standards have been definitively or provisionally
accepted by the FCI and which are registered with the studbook or with the appendix to
the studbook (waiting list) of an FCI member country. The same will apply to a non-FCI
member country whose studbook is, however, recognized by the FCI. Breeds that are not
yet recognized (neither definitively nor provisionally) by the FCI, must be recognized at a
national level and have pedigrees issued by the ENCI. These breeds have to appear in a
special section of the catalogue called breeds not recognized by the FCI.
Subjects of those breeds which are not yet definitively recognized by the FCI (provisionally
accepted breeds) are not eligible for the CACIB but they can compete for the Best of
Breed, the Best of Group and the Best in Show, provided that they have obtained CAC or
1 excellent in junior and veteran class.

ADMISSION OF COMPETITORS
Art.7
Competitors who have current suspension imposed by the Disciplinary Commission of the
ENCI or have been banned by the FCI, could not participate the events.

CAC AND RESERVE CAC

Art.9
CAC (aptitude certificate to the Italian beauty championship) and Reserve CAC could be
awarded by the judges:
One CAC in working class for all those breeds subjected to working trial, indistinctly
for all breeds belonging to the 10th FCI Groups;
One CAC comparing the intermediate and open classes, indistinctly for all breeds
belonging to the 10th FCI Groups.
A judge could award one CAC to the most beautiful male and one CAC to the most
beautiful female of every breed, without distinction of varieties (except the indications
specified in enclosure n.1), which have been qualified first excellent and belonging to the
official list of breeds recognized by the FCI (Fdration Cinologique Internationale) as from
enclosure n.4 of this regulation.
For each CAC, a judge could award a Reserve CAC to the male and to the female which
are considered worthy.
In intermediate and open classes, Reserve CAC is awarded comparing the subject
classified at the second place of the winner class to the 1 excellent of the other class.
For each CAC and Reserve CAC issued during the unrolling of the show, the judge must
sign the appropriate card which has been previously filled in by the ring steward, then
delivered to the relevant exhibitor.
It must be clear however that the issue of CAC and Reserve CAC is always left to the
faculty and the discretion of the judge who has judged the subjects thus formulating their
qualifications and classifications.
No obligation has therefore the judge to issue such certificates to the dogs, even though
they have been qualified excellent and are the winners of the class.
CAC obtained by dogs registered in the appendix of the Studbook of a foreign country
could not be used for the Italian Beauty Championship.

CLASSES
Art.12
Classes are divided by gender. Those admitted in recognized shows are the following:
Champion Class: registration in Champion class is compulsory for those subjects which
have been confirmed Italian Beauty Champions and whose title has been homologated
according to the ENCIs regulation, by the official second closing date of entries.
Registration in this class is not compulsory for those subjects which have been confirmed,
by the official second closing date of entries, International Beauty Champions (according
to the FCIs regulation) or National Beauty Champion of an FCI country, excluding Italy
(according to the foreign countrys regulation). No matter the country of origin in which
these subjects are registered in the Studbook. Proof of the title must be enclosed, by copy,
with the entry form. The World Champion title and the European Champion one do not
entitle the dog to be entered in Champion class. In this class, CAC (national certificate) is
not awarded. CACIB (international certificate) can be awarded but limited to international
shows. Dogs registered in champion class can be entered in pair, groups and breeder
classes and compete for the Best of Breed.

Open Class: for those subjects of almost 15 months old, without any restrictions than the
ones expected in champion class. CAC and Reserve CAC could be assigned comparing
the open and the intermediate class. CACIB can be awarded in this class but limited to
international shows. Dogs registered in open class can be entered in pair, groups and
breeder classes and compete for the Best of Breed.
Working Class: for those subjects of almost 15 months old. CAC and Reserve CAC are
assigned in this class to those breeds considered as working breeds, except deliberations
of the Board of Directors of the ENCI, under the request of the recognized breeds
associations.
To register a dog in working class, the dog must have passed an appropriate test and all
the details about this test (the trial, the date and the place) have to be reported on the
entry form. CAC and Reserve CAC can be assigned. CACIB can be awarded but limited to
international shows. Dogs registered with the Italian studbook would have obtained the
minimum qualification expected, in Italian trials or in foreign trials recognized by the ENCI.
For those subjects coming from a foreign country and then registered with the Italian
studbook, the qualifications obtained previously the registration are considered valid. Dogs
registered in working class can be entered in pair, groups and breeder classes and
compete for the Best of Breed.
Intermediate Class: for those subjects from 15 to 24 months old, without any restrictions
than the ones expected in champion class. CAC and Reserve CAC could be assigned
comparing the intermediate and the open class. CACIB can be awarded in this class but
limited to international shows. Dogs registered in intermediate class can be entered in pair,
groups and breeder classes and compete for the Best of Breed.
Junior Class: for those subjects from 9 to 18 months old. CAC and CACIB can not be
awarded in this class. Subjects in junior class may compete for the title of Best of Breed
provided that they have obtained 1 Excellent. Those subjects can be entered in pair,
groups and breeder classes and compete for the Best of Breed.
Puppy Class: for those subjects from 6 to 9 months old. CAC and CACIB can not be
awarded in this class. Subjects in puppy class can not be entered in pair, groups and
breeder classes nor compete for the Best of Breed.
Veteran Class: for those subjects of almost 8 years old. CAC and CACIB can not be
awarded in this class. Subjects in veteran class may compete for the title of Best of Breed
provided that they have obtained 1 Excellent. Those subjects can be entered in pair,
groups and breeder classes and compete for the Best of Breed.
Fuori Concorso Class: subjects of this class can be entered in breeder class if
considered eligible by the judge. Entries in this class give the subjects the right to have the
size confirmed or breed confirmation, when expected. The registration of subjects in this
class could be made on payment of an appropriate fee which is reported in the program of
the show. Any qualification and classification are awarded in this class.
R.S.R. Class: for those subjects of almost 9 months old, aspiring to be registered in the
appendix of the studbook Registro Supplementare Riconosciuti (according to the
provisions of art.13).

JUDGMENTS IN DOG SHOW

ART. 28
Judgments in dog shows
Exhibitors of the entered dogs must keep them at the judges disposal from the beginning to the
end of the turn to which they will participate. During the judgment the access to the rings is
permitted only to:

A) ENCIs delegate;
B) the judge and ring stewards, assistants and ring attendant;
C) the competitors called for the judgment;
D) aspiring judges authorized by ENCI.
Organizing Committees representatives can temporarily enter, but just for service requirements.
Dogs that wont be present at the moment of the judges call for the judgment, lose the right to be
judged and the exhibitor/handler cant demand the refund of the entry fees.
For each subject examined the judge must make known assets and faults in a report, which must
be written in the official language, that has to be delivered to show Secretariat.
Every Secretary of the shows must provide a cinometro, a tape measure and a microchip reader
at the judges disposal who requires them.

ART. 29
The dogs judgment must always be summarized in a title the judge will award to each exhibitor
unless the subject drops out before the judgment or it is qualified by the judge as not comply with
the FCI standard, insufficient, and as such non qualifying.
The qualifications given by ENCI judges at the recognized shows must correspond to the following
definitions:
EXCELLENT may only be awarded to a dog which comes very close to the ideal standard of the
breed, which is presented in excellent condition, displays a harmonious, well-balanced
temperament, is of high class and has excellent posture. Its superior characteristics in respect of
its breed permit that minor imperfections can be ignored; it must however have the typical features
of its sex.
VERY GOOD may only be awarded to a dog that possesses the typical features of its breed, which
has well-balanced proportions and is in correct condition. A few minor faults may be tolerated. This
award can only be granted to a dog that shows class.
GOOD is to be awarded to a dog that possesses the main features of its breed. The good points
should outweigh the faults so that the dog can be considered a good representative of its breed.
SUFFICIENT should be awarded to a dog which corresponds adequately to its breed, without
possessing the generally accepted characteristics or whose physical condition leaves a lot to be
desired.
Dogs that cannot be awarded one of the above qualifications shall be released from the ring with
the rating:
INSUFFICIENT must be awarded to a dog which does not correspond to the type required by the
breed standard which has dental or jaw anomaly; which shows a color or coat structure that is not
according to the breed standard.
DISQUALIFIED must be awarded to a dog that shows disqualifying faults in regard to the breed
standard. ENCIs delegate will acquire the information about the dog, withdraws the working book,
and transmits them to ENCI.
CANNOT BE JUDGED This rating is to be given to any dog which does not move, which is lame,
which constantly jumps up and down on its handler or tries to get out of the ring, which makes it
impossible to assess the gait and the movement or avoids constantly to be examined by the judge
and makes it impossible to inspect teeth, anatomy and structure, tail or testicles. This rating is also
to be given if traces of operations or treatment can be observed which seem to indicate that the
exhibitor wanted to deceive the judge. The same applies if the judge has ample reason to suspect
operations that were intended to correct the original condition or feature (e.g.: eyelid, ear or tail).
The reason why the dog was rated cannot be judged has to be stated in the judges report.
Non- qualified subjects cant stay in the ring.

In the Minor Puppy Class (3-6 months) and Puppy Class (6-9 months), the qualifications that will
be awarded at the moment of the show, reflect the premises of the future morphological evolution
of the subject. It isnt compulsory to have the working book.
ENCI judges can award only for Minor Puppy Class and Puppy Class the following qualifications:
Very Promising;
Promising;
Quite Promising.
The only dogs which can be taken into consideration for the CACIB are those which have been
awarded EXCELLENT 1 in intermediate, open, working and champion class.
The only dogs which can be taken into consideration for the CAC are those which have been
awarded EXCELLENT 1 in intermediate, open, working and champion class.

ART. 30
On the base of the qualifications awarded, the judge will proceed to the evaluation in merit order of
the competitors. For each breed will be classified only the first 4 subjects of each sex and class,
although all dogs are qualified and their judgment written in a report.

DUTIES OF EXHIBITORS AND AUDIENCE

ART. 35
Exhibitors/handlers must respect the judges, ENCIs representatives, the Organizing Committees
members and other competitors, otherwise they will be disqualify from the show from the ENCIs
delegate who must provide to inform ENCI through the delegates report.
Competitors must rigorously abide by ENCIs and Organizing Committees regulations.
Any decision made by a judge regarding the qualifications, awards and placing is final and
indisputable. However, complaints about the organization of the show and about the procedure
followed to give the qualifications, awards and placements are admissible in accordance with dog
shows general regulations.

ART. 36
Whoever offends publicly the judges or other competitors or infringes the regulations will be
immediately banned from the show from the judge or ENCIs delegate and will be reported to
ENCIs authorities.

COMPLAINTS
ART. 37
Complaints have to be made in writing to ENCIs delegate the day of the show or to ENCIs offices
within 7 days from the show by registered post.

of dog shows general regulations.
