Virtual Demo Case Sessions: Script for sales personnel

Info:
We have created the virtual demo case session in order to give sales personnel a chance to
promote the SIPART PS2 and its advantages live at the customer without having a demo case at
hand. The videos even exceed in some cases the typical content for hands on sessions for
customer talks. Nevertheless we recommend to always try to sell the device with LIVE HANDS ON
elements for the customer. The customer than can redo the steps of the videos and experience the
device on his own.
The goal is not to simply let the customer watch the video but to get into interaction with him by
explaining what steps are taken. This increases your knowledge of the device and at the same
time builds up the sales aspect of showing the sales aspect of this extremely flexible positioner.
For this purpose we have created these descriptions in order to explain in details what is done in
the respective video. Nevertheless the descriptions do not claim to be complete. Always consider
the official instruction manual as reference.
So use these videos and have fun selling the
SIEMENS SIPART PS2 One that masters everything

VDS SIPART PS2 - 00 General description:

What you will see in the videos is a SIPART PS2 demo setup:
The SIPART PS2 in Makrolon enclosure mounted on a rotary actuator and a controller, simulating
the control system by giving the positioner a 4-20mA signal.
The device in the video is a HART device and the parameter numbers selected might change for
Profibus PA or Foundation Fieldbus versions. Functionality and behavior are always the same
though for all the versions, irrespective of the communication type.

VDS SIPART PS2 - 01 Factory Reset

Very often a new initialization of the device helps to get rid of problems in case of technical
questions. If there are no parameters specifically changed for this application, in general a reset
onto the default factory settings is recommended before re-commissioning the device.
Go into the configuration mode [pressing mode button long time]
Jump into parameter 50 [by pressing mode button shortly each time for parameter change]
The device can be reset to factory settings [pressing + button until Okay is shown on
display]
Now you can leave the configuration mode [pressing mode button long time]
The device is now in NO INI status, flashing on the display

VDS SIPART PS2 - 02 Modular design

When selecting a positioner you maybe do not know if at a later stage the functionality of the
device needs to be extended. The SIPART PS2 offers an eazy retrofit possibility by simply sliding
in the different kind of modules. Under the motherboard the positioner has in total 2 slots for
optional modules and an additional one for the EMC filter module in case you want to connect
external sensors to the positioner. These modules can be ordered directly premounted or can be
retrofitted at a later stage. So the device gives you the full flexibility.
Firstly the module cover has to be removed with a screwdriver [Torx 20]
In case you need to exchange an optional module you then need to disconnect the ribbon
cable of the module to the motherboard by e.g. using a screwdriver or pulling them out.
Slide in the module in the respective slot (1st slot: alarm cards, 2nd slot: feedback module)
Please be aware that for the mechanical limit switch module as well as the slot initiator
module the process of mounting requests to demounting the motherboard first. Check the
manual for this
Connect the ribbon cable respectively

VDS SIPART PS2 - 03 Pre initialization steps

Before the device gets initialized, the basic functionality of the positioner needs to get verified.
There should be no audible leakage in the tubing to the actuator and the positioner must drive and
respectively move the actuator by manually operating via the + and - buttons
The device is in NO INI status, flashing on the display
Move the actuator by pressing the + or - button and verify visually the movement
[pressing one button causes regular aeration of actuator; additionally pressing the other
button simultaneously causes a faster aeration of actuator]
Ignore the value on the display and the respective mechanical position of the actuator
since this is only a potentiometer value and not the real mechanical position in % of total
rotary movement.

VDS SIPART PS2 - 04 Full initialization

The initialization ensures that the device optimally defines its internal settings for this application.
The positioner does this totally on its own. If the device has been installed before and now needs
to be reinitialized due to service related issues it is recommended to reset the device back to
factory settings and check the basic functionality of the positioner on the actuator.
The device is in NO INI status, flashing on the display
If necessary move the device somewhere around the mechanically middle position of the
actuator movement by pressing the + and - button (this is not necessary but prevents a
longer stay in RUN1, see manual)
Go into the configuration mode [pressing mode button long time]
Alter the respective initialization parameters according to the actuator type (turn, 90)
[modebutton for changing the parameter and + and - button for alteration of parameter
values]
Verify the position of the transmission ratio selector. The mechanical position must be the
same as the electronically defined one in parameter 2 (90)
Verify the position of the arrester of the transmission ratio selector. This must be either in
the identical position (90) or in the middle (neutral without influence)
Start the initialization [pressing the + button in parameter 4 for long time]
The device initializes itself and aligns its internal settings for this application
Confirm successful initialization [Finish on display] and change into regular mode [short
and afterwards long pressing of the mode button]
The device is now ready for operation and can receive a setpoint in AUT mode or can be
driven manually in MAN mode [via + and - button]

VDS SIPART PS2 - 05 Easy potentiometer adjustment

To ensure that you receive the best possible resolution of the total stroke / rotary movement on
the potentiometer the positioner checks the end position of the actuator on the potentiometer. The
end position must be in a respective tolerance zone. Without extensive demounting and
remounting of the positioner you can adjust the potentiometer position in case the mechanical end
position is not in the tolerance zone of the potentiometer.
After the start of the initialization the positioner shows the down tolerance band message
on the display (details see leaflet operation SIPART PS2)
By moving the friction clutch (attention: friction clutch must not be arrested/tightened) you
get the end position into the tolerance band of the potentiometer, displayed by 0 in
between the Up and Down sign. (details see leaflet operation SIPART PS2)
Continue with the initialization by pressing the + button

VDS SIPART PS2 - 06 Nozzle adjustment Leakage test

Depending on the actuator size it might be necessary to increase or decrease the actuation time
of the actuator. For this the positioner offers pneumatic restrictors which have a direct influence
onto the air flow. Additionally the positioner offers the offline leakage test, a convenient solution to
verify if the tubing is alright after the positioner was mounted.
After RUN3 the positioner shows the time for upwards (U) and downwards (d) movement
As soon as you see these times, get into the mode to alter the pneumatic restrictors [press
- button], NOZZLE will be shown in the display
Change the pneumatic restrictor [via allen key and according to description]
Go on with initialization [press + button]
If necessary redo the above steps
As soon as you see the acuation times in RUN3 you can start the offline leakage [press
the + button]
The positioner now holds the position for 1 minute and tells you if the valve moved due to
leakage in % of the total stroke/rotary movement.
Go on with the initialization [press the + button]

VDS SIPART PS2 - 07 Parameter play tight closing

The device as a huge variety of various parameters to set up the positioner according to the
different application needs. As an example for a parameter change the tight closing function for the
upper end stop is shown.
Go into the configuration mode [pressing mode button long time]
Jump into parameter 50 [by pressing mode button shortly each time for parameter change]
Do the necessary alterations for the parameter values [via + and - button] to activate
the upper tight closing function (here: P39:up ; P41:97)
Change the setpoint at the controller to simulate the parameter change [setpoint over 97]

[press + or - button]
Define the now available online diagnostic parameters respectively (C1=12; C2=2; C3=3;
C4=4) [via mode and +, - buttons]. The given application has a typical leakage
coefficient of about 13, the other values are used as multiplicators and respective setting of
alarm limits (e.g. 13*2 = 26. If this value is reach internally for the leakage coefficient the
first alarm level is reached)
Get back to AUT mode [via mode button]
Simulate leakage in the tubing towards the actuator / within the actuator by pulling the
tubing slightly out
On the display the respective alarm messages can be seen according to the amount of
leakage and indicated by message no 11, meaning leakage: 1st level, 2nd level, 3rd level
and as soon as leakage gets stopped the alarm levels decrease.
