SS7G5 The student will locate selected features in Southwestern Asia (Middle East).
a. Locate on a world and regional political-physical map: Euphrates River, Jordan River, Tigris
River, Suez Canal, Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz, Arabian Sea, Red Sea, and Gaza Strip.
b. Locate on a world and regional political-physical map the nations of Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq,
Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
Objective:
SWBAT: Identify the locations of countries, cities, and bodies of water on a map of
the Middle East.
SWBAT: Describe the significance of the Persian Gulf War.
SWBAT: List the ways in which the Gulf War was different for both the American troops and
the American public?

Opening/Hook Activity:
Open the lesson by asking the students, "What is the Middle East as it relates to Asia?"
Have students write their responses on a piece of paper. Collect the responses for use
later in the lesson.
Step #1: Divide your THINK TANK into two pairs. Step #2: Each pair takes ONE set of
flashcards from the folder. Step #3: Quiz your partner using the flashcards. Make sure you
go back to any flashcards that your partner misses. Step #4: Now switch roles with your
partner Step #5: Once you and your partner have quizzed each other, switch partners within
your THINK TANK and quiz your new partner.
Closure:
