EDITORIAL BOARD POSITIONS AVAILABLE FOR 2015-16 ACADEMIC YEAR

The Office of Admissions is seeking highly motivated Gannon students to work for Edge, our
online magazine geared toward current students, prospective students, their families and the
community. The purpose of Edge is to share news, information and insight on the Gannon
experience. All members of the editorial board will assist in recruitment and management of
staff contributors, attend weekly meetings and promote Edge to the Gannon community at
campus events. Available editorial board members positions are editor-in-chief, managing
editor, copy editor, assignment editor and multimedia editor.
Editor-in-chief: As the top editor of Edge, the editor-in-chief oversees the day-to-day
operations and serves as the liaison between the Enrollment Communications
Coordinator and the student staff. The editor-in-chief performs the final review of all
content prior to being submitted for publication, manages the Edge staff, produces a
blog and other regular content and leads weekly staff meetings. The editor-in-chief will
also assume assignment editor and/or copy editor responsibilities depending on his/her
strengths. This position includes 10 paid office hours per week.
Managing editor: The second in command, managing editor helps oversee the day-today operations of Edge, reviewing and editing all content before passing it to the editorin-chief for final edits. The managing editor will also produce a blog and other original
content and assume assignment editor and/or copy editor responsibilities depending on
his/her strengths. The managing editor will lead staff meetings in the absence of the
editor-in-chief. This position includes 8 paid office hours per week.
Copy editor: The copy editor, reporting to the managing editor and editor-in-chief is
responsible for editing all copy turned in by contributors in a timely manner. After the
assignment editor has completed a first read of each content piece, he/she will pass
content to the copy editor for a second read. The copy editor is responsible for
ensuring that all content follows AP style and is free of grammatical, spelling and
punctuation errors. The copy editor also focuses on the style and composition of the
pieces. The copy editor should provide contributors with regular feedback on their

work. The copy editor will maintain a blog and feature per week as well as complete
other tasks as assigned. This position includes 4-6 paid office hours per week.
Assignment editor: The assignment editor, reporting to managing editor and editor-inchief, is responsible for managing the contributors and completing first read of
assignments each week. All contributors will report to the assignment editor. The
assignment editor will manage assignment sheets, make sure turned-in assignments
meet the pre-determined requirements and provide feedback to contributors. The
assignment editor will maintain a blog, a feature, and the Rundown each week as well as
complete other tasks as assigned. This position includes 4-6 paid office hours per week.
Multimedia editor: The multimedia editor, reporting to managing editor and editor-inchief, actively spearheads Edges video, photo, and social media presence. The
multimedia editor will supervise multimedia contributors and delegate tasks as
necessary. The multimedia editor should have a background in video editing, marketing,
or project management. The multimedia editor determines what equipment is
necessary for projects, obtains equipment and helps to sustain and guide the creative
process. This position includes 4-6 paid office hours per week and can be modified to fit
skillset of qualified applicant.
Qualifications: The ideal candidates will demonstrate:

Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines


Effective communications skills
Leadership experience
A background in journalism, writing, editing, photography, video production, public
relations and/or communications
A strong desire to promote Gannon University to prospective students and their families
Completion of at least two semesters at Gannon
Must maintain 2.5 GPA
