Nursery Newsletter

February 2015
Dear Parents/Carers,
The Nursery team would like to share with you the main aspects of learning for this half
term so that you can continue to support your child at home. We hope that with your
help the children will be able to achieve the objectives we have plan for them.
Mathematics

Communication and Language and Lit-

We are learning to say a number which is

one more than a given number. Please help
your child to put a number in their head
and count from that number. Start with
numbers up to 10 and if your child is
confident, extend them up to 20.

Personal, Social and Emotional

Development

Physical Development

We are encouraging the children to

co-operate and work together. Please
support your child by collaborating on
small projects as a family. Perhaps you
could work together on a model-building
challenge.

Please continue to support your childs writing skills by allowing them to be a real writer. We are continuing to read lots of fairy
tales so perhaps they could write about their
favourite character from a story. We will be
reading the Gingerbread Man, Rapunzel,
Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella.

We are continuing to develop our fine and

gross motor skills. Please try to offer your
child a range of writing tools which could
include chunky pens, chalks or paints as well
as regular pens and pencils. All are good for
developing pencil grip!

Expressive Arts and Design

Understanding the World

We will be listening to and responding to a

range of music in our castle role play area
and we will be holding a ball for Cinderella towards the end of term. We will also be
using paints to mix colours and use them in
our own paintings.

We are supporting the children to learn

about their own cultures and those of other
people. We will be learning about the
festival of Easter. We will also be looking
for signs of Spring as the weather warms
up. The children are continuing to use the
computers to operate a range
of programmes.

Reminders!
We still go outside for outdoor learning
during the colder weather so could you
please ensure your child can fasten their own
coat and put hats, scarves and gloves on
themselves. This will really help when they
go to their reception classes next term.

It would also be helpful if you ...

make time to share a book with your

child every day

encourage your child to write for real

purposes every day

count and find numbers in the

environment.

Watch out for fundraising events later this term. These will be held in order to raise
money for trips later this year.

We hope some of these ideas will be helpful to you. If you have any questions, queries or
concerns we are always willing to talk them through with you. If we are unable to answer
your question immediately, we are always willing to make an appointment for a
more suitable time.
Thank you for your support on behalf of the Nursery Team
