Product Name: Del Monte Foods Inc.
Target Audience: Grocery Shoppers
Brief History: Del Monte Foods, Inc. is a brand that most grocery shoppers recognized and have trusted
for years. The company began in the 1880s in California, but since has grown and extended to Oregon,
Washington, Idaho, Utah, Alaska, Hawaii, Florida, as well as the Philippines.
Big Idea: With classic label designs that were created to be elegant all the way to the design they have
today, Del Monte Foods, Inc. has been through quite a few redesigns. Each design was generally only a
step better than the design previous, as to not completely destroy the entire brand.
Del Monte Foods, Inc. underwent a redesign a few years ago. This design was probably one of the more
drastic changes the label has ever gone under. The idea to abandon the iconic green label background
was good in theory, but made the label almost unrecognizable. Due to this redesign, their sales
suffered. As a result they are returning to the design they had just before the redesign. The need,
however, to update the label is important in keeping up with the design trends of the times.
A lot of designs are going towards a minimalistic style. This style is ideal for this time because it makes
it easy to understand exactly what the consumer is buying. The design ought to reflect the integrity of
the logo of the company with its elegance and color.
