Natural disaster is any catastrophic event that is caused by nature or the natural process of

the earth. Some examples for natural disaster are earthquake, flood, hurricane, tsunami and
volcanic eruptions. However, we chose the water related to nature disaster for our main title
which are flood and tsunami.
Flood is regular natural disaster that happen nearly every year during mansoon season
that are characterized by heavy and regular rainfall from roughly on October until March. Last
year during 27th of Disember , the massive flood has hit Kelantan and it was reported as the worst
in the history of the state. The flood has brought much destruction. According to the Kelantan
Flood Disaster Committee, chairman Mustapa Mohamed, a total of 516 houses were destroyed in
Gua Musang and 38 houses were swept away in Kuala Krai. Besides, he said Tenaga Nasional
Berhad estimated a loss of over RM10 million, Royal Malaysian Police loss of over RM8 million
and Syarikat Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd loss of over RM3 million, while the Kelantan Health
Department estimated a loss of over RM10 million in Kota Baharu alone.
On 4th of Disember, Pahang also was hit by flood after following non-stop rain for four
days, leaving the state capital almost paralysed and many more victims evacuated to flood relief
centres. 4,148 evacuees were being sheltered in 33 relief centres, Rompin (3,615 in 10 centres),
Pekan (2,716 in nine centres), Maran (1,179 in nine centres ) and Jerantut (63 in one centre).
According to Pahang director of education, Mohd Rosdi Ismail, the floods affected 41 schools in
six districts and damaged more than RM30,000 worth of text books. He also reported that around
16 schools in the Kuantan district were affected by the floods as well as three in Jerantut, five in
Bera, three in Maran, seven in Pekan and seven in Temerloh.
Tsunami is a series of enormous waves created by underwater disturbance. It can move
hundreds of miles per hour in the open ocean and smash into land with waves as high as 100 feet
or more. On 26th Disember 2004, Thailand was hit by a tsunami caused by the Indian Ocean
earthquake. The Thailand government reported 4,812 confirmed deaths, 8,457 injuries, and
4,499 went missing. The sectors most badly damaged have been tourism and fishing. The
popular tourist resort of Phuket was badly hit and hundreds of holiday bungalows on the Phi Phi
Islands were washed out to sea. The fishing industry has been damaged by the extensive
destruction of fishing boats and tackle, which individual fishing families couldn't afford to
replace, particularly since many have lost their homes as well. According to one report, more

than 500 fishing boats and ten trawlers have been destroyed, as well as many piers, boatsheds
and fish-processing facilities.
Indonesia was seriously affected by the tsunami created by the 2004 Indian Ocean
earthquake on 26 December 2004, nearly all the casualties and damage took place within the
province of Aceh. The United Nations (UN) Field Office reported approximately 131,000 people
confirmed dead and 37,000 went missing. Residential neighborhoods and fishing villages in
coastal areas were entirely devastated, and houses were swept inland or out to sea. Many bridges
were swept off their supports, and connecting earth embankments were significantly scoured,
disabling the transportation network for hundreds of kilometers along the west coast of Aceh
Province. Hundreds of bridges were picked up and swept inland by the tsunami waves, some
more than a kilometer. Besides, the state-owned Pertamina petroleum company suffered
substantial damage to fuel depots, where storage facilities were damaged and some fuel was lost.
