Introduction
The aim of the investigation and hyphothesis should be given along with a brief review of previous relevant
work with references.
Experimental
The methods and materials used should be clearly stated in sufficient detail to permit the work to be repeated if
desired. Only new techniques need be described in detail but known methods should have adequate references
with eventual modifications. Statistical methods and computer programs should be obligatory specified.
Results
These should be presented concisely, using tables or illustrations for clarity. Adequate indication of the level
of experimental error and the statistical methods and significance of results should be given. The number of
illustrations and graphical chemical formule must be kept to a minimum. Main and subsidiary headings should
be clearly distinguished.
Tables, figures and illustrations
Tables should be simple and few feasible for presentation of the essential data and should not duplicate information in the text or figures. Tables on separate pages should be added to the manuscript and numbered according
to their sequence in the text. The text should include references to all tables and illustrations. Column headings
should be brief, but sufficiently explanatory. Units of measurement should be added. Explanations essential to
the understanding of the table should be given in footnotes at the bottom of the table. All illustrations should be
given separately, numbered according to their sequence in the text and accompanied by a caption. Figures should
be saved in a neutral data format such as: xls, jpg, tiff. Scanned figures (only jpg and tiff format should have a
resolution of 300 dpi (halftone) or 600 to 1200 dpi (line drawings) in relation to the reproduction size. Text figures,
line drawings, computer-generated figures and graphs should be of sufficient size and quality to allow for reduction by half or two-thirds. Each illustration should be on a separate sheet, added to the manuscript. Photographs
are only acceptable if they have good contrast and intensity.
Discussion
Discussion should not repeat the introduction but show how to results fit into the hypothesis and objectives
outlined in this part. Limitations of the study and implications for future research should be included.
Conclusions
These should not merely repeat preceding sections.
References
All publications cited in the text should be presented in a list of references alphabetically according to authors
surnames following the text of the manuscript. In the text refer to the authors name (without initials) and year
of publication. If reference is made in the text to a publication written by more than two authors, the name of
the first author should be used followed by et al.. When an article has more than ten authors, only the names
of the first three should be given followed by et al.. References cited together in the text should be arranged
chronologically. The following system for arranging references should be used:
for papers in periodicals:
Mehrez Mehrez A.Z., rskov E.R., 1977. A study of the artificial fibre bag technique for determining the
digestibility of feeds in the rumen. J. Agr. Sci. 88, 645-650
for papers in edited volumens, symposia proceedings, special issues of periodicals, etc.:
Van Soest P.J., Sniffen C.J., Martens D.R., Fox D.G., Robinson P.H., Kirsnamoorthy U.,1982. A net protein
system for cattle: The rumen submodels for nitrogen. In: F.N. Ovens (Editor). Proceedings of an International
Symposium on Protein Requirements for Cattle. Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK, pp. 265-279
for books and edited volumes:
rskov E.R., Ryle M. (Editors), 1990. Energy Nutrition in Ruminants. Elsevier Applied Science. London and
New York, pp. 93
for multi-authors books:
Sundstl F., Coxworth E.M., 1984. Ammonia treatment. In: F. Sundstl, E. Owen (Editors). Straw and Other
Fibrous By-Products as Feed. Elsevier, Amsterdam, pp. 196-247
Different publications having the same author(s) and year should be distinguished by a,b,c etc., immediately
following the year of publication. Abbreviation of the titles of periodicals should be in accordance with
International List of Periodical Title World Abbreviations, otherwise full name of periodicals should be given.
Units of measurement
All units of measurements must follow the SI system. The concentration of solutions should be given as molar
concentration or expressed in percentages.
4. Supplements to the Journal of Animal and Feed Sciences are published at irregular intervals. Manuscripts on
extensive experimental investigations, forming a self-contained unit, are of first consideration for publication in
these supplements.
