applies persistency, patience, knowledge,
caution and vigour to expand its presence
within international markets. It continually
invests into new technologies to make
certain it remains competitive amongst
similar companies, and has achieved a
substantial customer base as a result.
Its market success has increased
throughout the last three years; a result of
product quality and quantity, in addition to
new market openings, which have
secured Achaika continued development.
Achaika maintains the merged
companies’ original three production
facilities: the first in Egion (South-West
Greece), which is used as the company’s
central offices, and the remaining two in
Komotini town (North-East Greece),
which are used as manufacturing plants.
In total, Achaika boasts 65,500 square
metres (including offices and warehouses
in Athens, Greece) and around 110

Achaika Plastics, a Greek plastic packaging company, was established in 1984
following the merge of three companies. Family based, Achaika abides by the
company motto, ‘believe in your mind, believe in your hand and learn to hear your
customer. There is no magic in this business; if you want to succeed, you must
work very hard, every day, any time, for a long time.’ The firm’s motto reflects its
strong work ethic, and it strives to continually push boundaries; developing in
accordance with global market demand. Paying attention to the modernisation of
equipment and up-to-date training of its employees, Achaika ensures that it

Research and

Development

Achaika believes wholeheartedly in the

implementation of research and

development, and relies on it to remain

innovative. This process works to

secure the company’s stance as a

leader in flexible packaging, and its

department is comprised of 6 people

that focus on the research and

development of each new project. Some

products that have materialised from

currently researching and developing

downgauged shrink films, which have

thus far progressed extremely well and

reached target.

Achaika’s research and development

department contributes largely to the

overall success of the company, as

does its suppliers. The company views

its supplier groups, including Polimeri,

Sabic, ExxonMobil (Polymer), Tosaf,

Plastika Kritis, and Schulman

(Masterbatches), as integral to Achaika,

and promotes open and sincere

are divided into three main sectors:

agricultural, industrial and general

distribution; supplying products such as

industrial films, automatic films and

technical films, industrial sacks,

valve-sacks with double walls, palette

sacks (palette wrapper), sacks for the

packing of the building materials, stretch

film, shrink film, and packing bags. Its

advanced equipment, including single or

multi-layer extruders, enable Achaika to

offer a number of products that meet all

customer requirements; such as Big Bag

knitted bags with belts of a 5:1 and 6:1

safety factor.

Other advanced products that

Achaika offers its customers are

agricultural films, such as Greenhousing

films, which are 3 layer coextruded and

UV stabilised for 33 or 45 months. This

line is available in a variety of film

formulations and is well adapted to its

conditions. It also supplies a range of

mulch films

designed for

the mulching of

soils, and is

one of three

European

companies that have

patented mulch films for

asparagus cultivation.

Additionally, the

company also

supplies bags for the

retail trade (supermarkets,

check-outs, hotels) in a number of

types, colours (6 variations) and shades

(transparent or tinted). Bags on the roll

are available (for self-service

dispensers), as are garbage bags on a

roll (in virgin material or -recycled

material in a range of sizes), and

flexi-loop carrier bags (mono-extruded

or coextruded), which can be

customised by tint or a print in up to 8

colours. A range of its products can be

manufactured in several colours, printed

or plain, and packed with paper bands

in polythene sleeves.

relationships with them and its

customers. The brand, its suppliers and

its client have a mutual understanding

of needs, byways of quality, cost,

availability and customer service, which

ensures that each group is satisfied with

the way business is carried out.

Future Market growth

For added future success, Achaika is

focussing on expanding its international

presence and looking to increase its

exports. It will continue developing an

innovative range of products and market

them abroad to places in Europe and

Asia; with the hope of avoiding the

challenges arising within Greek markets

(as a result of the economic crisis). It is

currently in the process of constructing

a multi-purpose, multi-functional

converting machine for products such

as asparagus films, pallet hoods and

perforated bags on rolls, which will

assist Achaika in storing jumbo rolls of

products. The low cost of this production

and availability of product will aid the

company’s international success byway

of efficiency. The company views the

European markets as particularly

beneficial for Achaika, as they are

quality (Germany, UK, etc) and cost

(Balkan countries) orientated; which will

work well for a brand that is quality,

committed, innovative, knowledgeable

and experienced.
