Prepare for maintenance

Obtain the PM work order.

Prepare a Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and conduct a Toolbox Talk with all personnel
involved in the job
Prepare the Permit to Work in accordance with the work scope requested.
Complete the Temporary Bypass Certificate if applicable.
Inform the Control Room Operator of the intended work and provide the tag number of
the affected equipment.
Verify with the Control Room Operator that the Emergency Safety Shutdown System
(ESSDS) bypass / override is selected and/or the equipment is in BYPASS and ready for
maintenance.
Ensure that the area has been checked for flammable gasses.
If necessary to remove the source of energy, isolate, lock and tag the equipment
according to Lock-out/Tag-out guidelines (LOTO).

Monthly PM
Surveillance Monitoring and Visual Inspection

Observe and record the status of the Processor indicators

Observe and record the status of the Expander Interface indicators as described
Observe and record the status of the Communication Interface indicators
Observe and record the status of the Gateway indicators
Observe and record the status of the Expander Processor indicators
Observe and record the status of the 24 VDC Digital Input Module indicators
Observe and record the status of the 24 VDC Analog Input Module indicators
Observe and record the status of the 24 VDC Digital Output Module indicators
Observe and Record the Status of the Trusted 15-Way fused Power Distribution Unit
Module indicators
Observe and record the status of the System Power Supply indicators
Report any fault recorded and generate a work order as necessary.
etc

Quarterly PM

Windows event viewer log backup

Annual PM
Conduct visual inspection

Visually inspect the condition of all system equipment / enclosures and

check for the following:
Ingress of water or other fluid.
Unusual (e.g. burned electronics) odors.
Inspect the equipment / enclosures and verify the following:
Mechanical integrity of doors, hinges, latches and locks.
Check and record any physical damage of components.
Check and record the temperature and humidity of the control room or Auxiliary room.

Check for any visible corrosion and record observations.

Check tags of cabinet
Observe the active overrides and check against the approved override listings
Record and report any obvious wiring modifications and open knife edges
Check the fan expellers
Check that filters
Check for Adequate Power

Incoming power quality check

Verify that the incoming power quality
Measure and register the following:
Voltage
Frequency

Review wiring diagrams and Check that the redundant Incoming power supplies.
System Power quality check
Measure and register the system power supplies:
Voltage
AC ripple' content
Check for loss of redundancy where redundant components are provided,

Check for loss of output voltage on both system power supply in redundant pair.
Check each system power supply by visually inspecting if the cooling fans are working.
Also inspect status LED if available.

Check integrity of components

Panel drawing verification
Refer to site specific drawings and verify that the latest versions of control system documents,
such as, loop diagram, flowcharts, control schematics, Electrical wiring and systems
Architecture drawing are readily accessible to operations and maintenance (O&M) personnel
responsible for system integrity.
Verify that the documents are "As Built", with all modifications captured.
Verify that all qualified personnel know the location of and have access to "As Built"
documentation.
Verify that security procedures are sufficient to prevent unauthorized use, while still allowing
access to all qualified and authorized personnel who may require them immediately in support
of unscheduled events.
Maintenance of HMI and Engineering Workstation
Wipe the exterior of the enclosure with soft cloth.
Verify that all power cables are properly connected to the system, the monitor and
peripherals, and their power sources.
Inspect and ensure that connections to any attached devices such as network cables,
keyboard, monitor, mouse as well as any device attached to the serial port are firm and
tight.
Inspect the keyboard to ensure that no keys are sticking. If keys are sticking, it may be
necessary to replace the keyboard.
Inspect the exterior of the system, including all controls and indicators, and all useraccessible data storage devices for any signs of physical damage.
Perform the maintenance on the printers.
Perform maintenance on the keyboard.
Perform maintenance on the mouse.

Tighten connection
Using Wiring Diagram, check for loose wire connections, Plugs, Sockets, etc.
Tighten all loose wires, cables, plugs, Sockets, etc.

Using Wiring Diagram, check for instrumentation cabling, including shields, terminated
within the ESSDS system panel.
Check for loose system module connection.
Tighten all loose System modules
Grounding checks
Verify that the ground connection within the ESSDS system/marshalling panel is
correctly connected to the appropriate grounding systems.
Verify that the DC returns (negative strapped to ground) is not floating.
Check that all connection to the AC ground bars and DC ground bar are tightly secured.
Verify that ground (earth), bonding and other connections are secured and free of
damage and corrosion. Record and report any unsecured and seriously corroded
connection.
Function testing
Software maintenance
Program backup
Identification of Forced Signals
Backup of HMI Hard Drive Image and Configuration Laptop Hard Drive Image.
Verify hard drive capacity/remove temporary and old irrelevant files
Close out the maintenance task
Prior to closeout, remove all tools, extra parts, and loose materials from the work area.
If the ESSDS System was shut down and locked out, remove the locks and tags and
then restore power to the unit, according to Lock-out/Tag-out guidelines.
Notify the Control Room Operator that maintenance is complete and the ESSDS System
is ready for service.
Verify that the ESSDS System is in service and that all associated emergency shutdown
initiators and the forced inputs/outputs are according with the actual operating
conditions.
Remove the temporary bypass from the safety system, as applicable
Close out the permits.
Update the records:
Review, update, and file the JSA.

If required, update the regulatory requirements.

Verify that all items in the Check Sheet Report are registered.
