HISTORY

Michael and Debbie Haubner, missionaries in Brazil, have com

pleted two years of service.

Michael, a second generation missionary, arrived in Brazil when

he was three years old. After completing high school in Sao Paulo,
Brazil, he went on to Kentucky Christian College. He graduated
with a degree in Bible and Christian Ministries in 1989.

Debbie attended two years at the Cincinnati Bible Seminary and

then graduated in 1989 from Kentucky Christian College with a
degree in Elementary Education.

After raising support, Michael and Debbie arrived in Brazil on

May 17,1991.

MINISTRY

In March, 1974, the Earl Haubnerfamlly started a congregation in the

Novo Horizonte government housing subdivision. Since that time nine
other churches have been started under what is called "The Ministry of
the Churches of Christ of Novo Horizonte." Eight of the churches are
located in the capital city of Goiania and the other two are located in the
interior of the state of Goias. All of the churches have Brazilian leaders

who work closely with the Haubners in church planting and evangelism.
The ten churches show a total membership of about 1500 with about
1800 for Sunday worship. 1992 saw a total of two hundred baptisms of
all the churches in the ministry.

Two special projects of the Ministry include a day-care center and a

camp. The day-care center is located at the Vila Boa church, services
about 60 children and provide 4 meals per day. The day-care center is

govemment funded and provides jobs for members of the churches.

The camp, located 25 miles from Goiania, is used on almost every
holiday and most weekends for some kind of retreat for young people
and adults. We want to continue to develop this 100 acre farm to better
accomodate the campers. We will work each month according to the
amount of funds available for the project. We will need about $500,000
to invest in this project during the next five years. In the future we want to
develop a Bible College and a Mission Training Center. We have seen
many lives won to Christ, changed and many committments renewed.
Besides being directly involved in evangelism and church planting,
we also work with the teenagers in the Novo Horizonte church. We have
seen them grow from 20 to 70 teenagers ranging from ages 15 to 26.
These teenagers are also involved in discipling and personal evange
lism. We have also started worship teams which meet for practice and
studies twice a week to provide quality worship for the churches which
we serve.

SUCCESS AND FUTURE FOR THE HAUBNERS

Michiana Brazil Christian Mission with Central Brazil Mission will con

tinue to financially help Brazilian evangelists and make loans available

for the construction of new church buildings. We would like to start more
new churches in the interior cities of the state. Our plans are for the start
ing of one new congregation at least every two years with each new
church developed to self-support status within three years. With the
Bible Institute program, Brazilians are being trained and are available for
leadership positions in these new congregations. We must also develop
a good missionary program in the local churches with hopes of having
more Brazilian families ready to become missionaries in the near future.
The Lord asked His followers to pray for laborers for the harvest. That is
necessary, but in addition to laborers, support is needed to send out
Brazilian evangelists and missionaries and help get buildings construc
ted. Men and money are not enough. No program can produce lasting
results unless itis conceived and sustained by prayer. As you give, bathe
that gift with loving prayer. In this way, you will become as much an
integral part in Church Growth as a Brazilian evangelist or missionary on
the field.

Our plans are to continue to work with the Churches of the Novo
Horizonte ministry whiie raising up from among these Churches spiritual
leaders that will be trained by and at the local Church. These leaders will
then take over the leadership of the new congregations that we will be
starting, as well as be prepared for missionary work in other places.

Central Brazil Mission

MICHAEL HAUBNER
P.O. Box 243

Marshall, Illinois 62441

Letter of Invitation
We are excited about Michael's desire to return to Brazil and work as a missionary with the Central
Brazil Mission. Having grown up in Brazil, he understands Brazilian culture and their people, as well
as being fluent with the language.
The C.B.M. is inviting Michael to work with us and encouranging churches and individuals to invest
in him and his ministry.
He will graduate from Kentucky Christian College in May 1989 and would like to have his support
raised and ready to return to Brazil by August 1990.
As we cU"e inviting Michael to become a part of the Central Brazil Mission ministry, we would also
like to invite you, as an individual or a church, to please consider becoming a partner with Michael in
his new ministry.
Lloyd Finley, President
Earl Haubner, Missionary

Letters of Recommendation
Michael Haubner spent much of his life in Brazil before enrolling at Kentucky Christian College in
the Fall of 1985. He is familiar with the customs and speaks the language of the people fluently. He
loves the Brazilian people and wants to return to them with the gospel.
Michael will graduate from Kentucky Christian College this spring. But, to begin his mission he needs
your encouragement in prayer and financial support. Please consider putting Michael into your missions
budget and include him on your prayer list.
I want to encourage you to have Michael visit your congregation. Let him present the need to preach

the gospel in Brazil. I know you will be impressed with the zeal and determination of this bright and
sensitive young evangelist.

He may even encourage some of you to consider service for our Lord in

some place like Brazil.

My recommendation of Michael Haubner is enthusiastic. We need him in Brazil! Will you help?
Keith P. Keeran, President, Kentucky Christian College

I believe that churches and individuals should spend their missions dollars very carefully. The needs
are too great to do otherwise. I also believe that the support of Michael Haubner and the Central Brazil
Mission would be a good use of your missions fund, Michael has several advantages which make him
a prime candidate for quality mission work in Brazil. First, having grown up in Brazil, be has the
necessary fluency with the language and will not experience the typical cultural shock which often gives
such difficulty to new recruits. Second, since his intentions are to work alongside his parents, who are
veteran missionaries, he has the advantage of the shelter and oversight of an established work. Third,
he has been strongly committed to missions throughout his college work. Fourth, Michael brings several
talents which will enhance his work especially among the youth, including exceptional soccer skills and
facility with the guitar. Fifth, he has prepared himself carefully through his work at Kentucky Christian
College. The expansion of the Central Brazil Mission through Michael's addition is deserving of your
support.

Stephen Pattison, Associate Professor of Bible, Kentucky Christian College

History
The Haubner family entered Brazil in July 1969. They have now completed 20 years of service on
the mission field.

Michael is one of four children. He was born August 9, 1966, in Georgetown, Ohio. He was three
years old when his family moved to Brazil. Michael attended Brazilian school through fifth grade.
Finishing fifth grade, he went on to a boarding school where he completed junior high, and in May of
1985, graduated from high school from the Pan American Christian Academy in Sao Paulo, Brazil. During
his years in school, he was always actively involved in the church. He also participated in several singing
groups where their main goal was evangelizing through songs and testimonies. After graduating from
high school, he moved to the states where since August 1985 he has attended Kentucky Christian College.
During his years at KCC, he participated for one year in a group called "Destiny." He spent two summers
travelling as a missionary speaker in V.B.S and camps. His last summer was spent in Brazil on an
internship. Following graduation in May 1989, Michael will be prepared and ready to return to Brazil
as a missionary and work with his parents under the supervision of the Central Brazil Mission.

C.B.M. Ministry
My parents are involved in starting new churches and training Brazilians to be leaders. In March 1974

the Haubner family started a new congregation in the blpyo Horizonte government housing subdivision.
They have worked mainly with this church since that time.*^*The thurch now has about 300 members

with its own Brazilian preachers who also work with my family in church planting and evangelism. This/
church has started four daughter congregations in the past six years.
The Vila Boa congregation was started six years ago by the Novo Horizonte Church. After renting
a small building for two years, they moved into their new building in January 1983, which will
.,accommodate 250-300 people. In 1987, the construction of the Christian Day Center was completed.
With city government help the church is now feeding about 400 children between the ages of 4 and 14
their main meal five times a week.

The Jardim Planalto Church is the second congregation started Easter Sunday, April 22, 1984, by
the NovoTTorizonte Church. In the first year and one-half they had over 120 baptisms and presently
have over 300 members, with Sunday worship running between 300-400. T^g. other congregations that
have been started by the Novo Horizonte Church are the Setor Garavelo congregation, which is running
about 100, and the Rio Formoso congregation which runs about 50-60. The newest project of the C.B.M.
is the building of a camp which will also be a Bible college and mission training center.

My Plans With C.B.M.

My plans as 1 go back to Brazil are to work^mainly with the youth. In Brazil there is no such thing
as a youth minister in the churches. 1 will be acting as a youth minister in the Novo Horizonte church.

Working with young married couples and the yauthuwill be a priority, but 1 will also be,preaching, leading

'( in discipleship training, and teaching in the ^hle. Institute. My other responsibilities will be working
. in the music department playing and singing and possibly starting a traveling music group, as well as
being actively involved in helping develop the camp, Bible college, and Mission Training Center. As
you can see, there is going to-be plenty for me to do and I am very excited about the work.
