INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS
TheWirelessCarbonMonoxideAlarm,partnumber2GIGCO3345isa3Vbattery
poweredwirelessdetectorintendedforusewithwirelessalarmsystems.The
detectorconsistsofanelectrochemicalcarbonmonoxidesensorassemblycoupled
toawirelesstransmitter.TheWirelessCarbonMonoxideAlarmcommunicateswith
theControlPanelandcansendalarm,tamperandbatteryconditionmessagesto
thesystemsreceiver.Toknowthemaximumnumberoftransmittersthatcanbe
supported,seethe2GIGSecuritySystemInstallGuide.
IMPORTANT: Thisdetectormustbetestedandmaintainedregularly
followingNFPA720requirements.
Thisdeviceisdesignedto
protectindividualsfromthe
acuteeffectsofcarbon
monoxideexposure.Itwillnot
fullysafeguardindividuals
withspecificmedical

followingtable).Inalarm,amessageisalsosenttotheControlPanelandthe
detectorsIDisdisplayedonthescreen.Duringanalarmcondition,pressingthe
detectorshushbuttonwillsilencethesounderforfiveminutes.Themountingbase
installationissimplifiedbytheincorporationoffeaturescompatibleforboth
drywallfasteners(notsupplied)andothermethods.
TricoloredLED(green,yellow,red)andasounderonthedetectorprovidelocal
visualandaudibleindicationofthedetectorsstatusaslistedinthefollowingtable.
DuringinitialpoweruptheLEDblinksalternatelygreen,yellowthenred.Ittakes
about60secondsforthedetectorsCOsensortostabilize.
Afterpoweruphascompletedandthedetectorisfunctioningnormally,thegreen
LEDblinksonceevery12seconds.

Detector Trouble
Whenthesensorsupervisionisintroublecondition,theyellowLEDblinksonce
everysixsecondsandthereisachirpevery45seconds.After12hoursthepanel
willdisplayalossofsupervisionmessage.

Detector End-of-Life
Whenthedetectorhasreachedtheendofitslife,theyellowLEDblinksonceevery
23secondsandthereisachirpevery45seconds.After12hoursthepanelwill
displayalossofsupervisionmessage.ThisindicatesthattheCOsensorinsidethe
detectorhaspassedtheendofitslifeandthedetectormustbereplaced.The
detectorlifespanisfiveyearsfromthedateofmanufacture.

Unauthorizedchangesormodificationscouldvoidtheusersauthority
tooperatetheequipment.

counterclockwise.Removeanddisposeofthebatteryaccordingtolocal
regulations.
Toensureproperpowerdownsequence,waitaminimumof20secondsbefore
installingnewbattery.
Installanew3voltCR123APanasonicLithiumbattery(availablefromyour
Panasonicdealer)inthebatterycompartment.Followthepolaritydiagram
insidethecompartment!Ifthebatteryisincorrectlyinserted,removegently
withanonconductivetoolandcorrectlyreinsert.
Reinstallontothemountingbasebyturningthedetectorclockwise.
AfterthepowerupsequencethegreenLEDshouldblinkaboutonceevery12
secondstoindicatenormaloperation.Ifthebatteryisnotinstalledcorrectly,
thedetectorwillnotoperateandthebatterymaybedamaged.Ifthedetector
doesnotpowerup,checkforafullychargedbattery.

Low Battery Detection


TheWirelessCarbonMonoxideAlarmispoweredbyasingle3voltCR123A
PanasonicLithiumbattery.Thedetectorregularlychecksforalowbattery.Ifalow
batteryisdetected,thetransmittersendsalowbatterymessagetotheControl
Panel,whichdisplaysthedetectorsIDatlowbattery.Inaddition,theyellowLEDof
thedetectorwillblinkevery12seconds.Thedetectorssounderwillchirpevery45
seconds(yellowLEDcontinuestoblink)untilthebatteryisreplaced.Pressingthe
hushbuttonsilencesthechirpsfor12hours,ifnoothertroubleconditionsexist.
Replacethebatterywhenthechirpsbegin.Besuretoreplacethebatterywitha
freshone.

reducebatterylife!

To Mount the Detector

Seethefigurebelowandinstallthemountingbaseontheceilingoronthewall
(iflocalordinancespermit)usingscrewlocationsasrequired.Usethetwo
screwsandanchorsprovided.Maneuverthebasesothescrewsareatthe
elbowofthescrewslotsandsecure.
2 Fitthedetectorinsidethebasebyaligningitoverthebaseasshown
(detectorsalignmentnotchshouldbeslightlyoffsetfrommountingbase
tamperreleasetab).
3 Testthedetectoraftercompletingtheinstallation(seeTestingtheDetector).

concerningtheuseofwirelessdevices.
WARNING: DONOTattachthedetectortoremovableceilingpanels.

Installing and Mounting


Determinethebestlocationforthedetector,onethatprovidespropercarbon
monoxidedetection.

Proper Carbon Monoxide Detection Location


Wallmounteddetectorsshouldbepositionedatleastashighasalightswitch,and
atleastsixinches(15cm)fromtheceiling.Inaceilinglocation,thedetectorshould
beatleast12inches(30cm)fromanywall.
IdealLocations:
Within10feet(3m)ofasleepingarea
Insidethebedroomifitcontainsafuelburningappliance
Oneveryfloorofthebuilding
Ideally,installinanyroomthatcontainsafuelburningappliance
Iftheapplianceortheroomisnotnormallyused,suchastheboilerroom,the
detectorshouldbeplacedjustoutsidetheroomsothealarmcanbeheard
moreeasily

WARNING:
Airbornedustparticlescanenterthedetector.2GIGTechnologies
recommendstheremovalofdetectorsbeforebeginningconstructionor
anyotherdustproducingactivity.Carbonmonoxidedetectorsarenotto
beusedwithdetectorguardsunlessthecombinationhasbeenevaluated
andfoundsuitableforthatpurpose.

Tamper Protection
AtamperalertisdisplayedattheControlPanelifthebuiltintamperswitchis
removedfromitsmountingbase.TheWirelessCarbonMonoxideAlarmincludesa
tamperresistantfeaturethatpreventsremovalfromthemountingbasewithoutthe
useofatool.Toengagethetamperresistantfeature,cutthesmallplastictab
locatedonthemountingbaseandtheninstallthedetector.
Toremovethedetectorfromthebaseonceithasbeenmadetamperresistant,use
appropriatescrewdrivertodepressthesquaretamperreleasetablocatedonthe
skirtofthemountingbaseandturnthedetectorcounterclockwise.

Testing the Detector


Beforetesting,notifythecentralmonitoringstationthatthesecuritysystemis
undergoingtestsandmaintenance.Thisactionpreventsunwantedalarms.
TestingthedetectoractivatesanalarmandsendsanalarmsignaltotheControl
Panel.Also,thetestfunctioncannotbeusedifthedetectorhasatroubleorendof
lifecondition.
Detectorsmustbetestedafterinstallationandfollowingperiodicmaintenance.

To Test Detector Operation

ThisWirelessCarbonMonoxideAlarmshouldonlybecommissioned
andinstalledbyacompetentengineer.

Totestthedetectorssounder,LEDs,andtransmitter,dothefollowing:
1 Thetestbuttonislocatedonthedetectorhousing.
2 Pushandholdthetestbuttonforaminimumof5seconds.TheControlPanel
willtriggerandthedetectorwillgointoalarm.Thesounderbeginsthe
temporal4patternandtheredLEDblinks.ThesecuritysystemsControlPanel
displaysthedetectorsnameinalarm.

Carbon Monoxide Gas and its Detection

Replacing the Detector

Thiscarbonmonoxidedetectorisdesignedforindooruseonly.Donotexposeto
rainormoisture.Donotknockordropthedetector.Donotopenortamperwith
thedetectorasthiscouldcausemalfunction.Thedetectorwillnotprotectagainst
theriskofcarbonmonoxidepoisoningifnotproperlyinstalled.
WARNING: Thisdevicewillonlyindicatethepresenceofcarbonmonoxide
gasatthesensor.Carbonmonoxidegasmaybepresentinotherareas.
Thiscarbonmonoxidealarmingdeviceisdesignedtodetectcarbonmonoxidegas
fromANYsourceofcombustion.ItisNOTdesignedtodetectsmoke,orothergases
unlesstheproducthasbeeninvestigatedanddeterminedtocomplywithapplicable
requirements.
Thisdeviceshouldnotbeinstalledasasubstituteforproperinstallation,use,and
maintenanceoffuelburningappliances,includingappropriateventilationand
exhaustsystems.
Carbonmonoxidegasisahighlypoisonousgaswhichisreleasedwhenfuelsare
burned.Itisinvisible,hasnosmellandisthereforeimpossibletodetectwiththe
humansenses.Undernormalconditionsinaroomwherefuelburningappliances
arewellmaintainedandcorrectlyventilated,theamountofcarbonmonoxide
releasedintotheroombyappliancesshouldnotbedangerous.

Thisdetectorismanufacturedwithalonglifecarbonmonoxidesensor.Overtime
thesensorwilllosesensitivity,andwillneedtobereplacedwithanewcarbon
monoxidedetector.Thedetectorslifespanis5yearsfromthedateofmanufacture.
NOTE: Whenthedetectorisremovedfromitsbase,aTampermessageis
senttothecentralmonitoringstation.Thedetectoralsocausesatrouble
conditionwhenithasreachedtheendofitslife.Ifthisoccurs,itistimeto
replacethedetector.
Beforereplacingthedetector,notifythecentralmonitoringstationthat
maintenanceisbeingperformedandthatthesystemwillbetemporarilyoutof
service.FromtheControlPanel,disablethezoneorsystemundergoing
maintenancetopreventanyunwantedalarms.Disposeofthedetectorin
accordancewithanylocalregulations.
IMPORTANT: TheReplacementDatethatappearsonthedeviceisthedate
beyondwhichthedevicemaynolongerdetectcarbonmonoxide
accuratelyandshouldbeimmediatelyreplaced.
Theinstallation,operationtestingandmaintenanceoftheWirelessCarbon
MonoxideAlarmisdifferentthansmokedetectors.PerNFPA720section5.3.7.2the
detectorshallnotbeconnectedtoazonethatsignalsafirecondition(i.e.smoke
detector/alarmzones).Therefore,theWirelessCarbonMonoxideAlarmmustbe
programmedasanonfirezone.Seestep2underProgrammingforthecorrect
CarbonMonoxidezonetypetoprogram.

Conditions Resulting in Dangerous CO


Situations

Excessivespillageorreverseventingoffuelburningappliancescausedby:
outdoorambientconditions,suchaswinddirectionand/orvelocity,
includinghighgustsofwind,andinsufficientdraftintheventpipes
negativepressuredifferentialresultingfromtheuseofexhaustfans
simultaneousoperationofseveralfuelburningappliancescompetingfor
limitedinternalair
looseventpipeconnectionsfromfuelfedappliances,
obstructions,orunconventionalventpipedesignsthatcanamplifythe
abovesituations
poorlydesignedormaintainedchimneysand/orvents
2 Extendedoperationofunventedfuelburningdevices(range,oven,replace,
etc.)
3 Temperatureinversionsthattrapexhaustgasesneartheground
4 Caridlinginanopenorclosedattachedgarage,ornearahome
IfyouhavebeenexposedtoCarbonMonoxidePoisoning,youmaybesuffering
fromvarioussymptoms(discussthesesymptomswithallofthemembersofyour
household):

Mild Exposure

Headache,runningnose,soreeyes(oftendescribedasflulikesymptoms)

Medium Exposure

Dizziness,drowsiness,vomiting

Extreme Exposure
Unconsciousness,braindamage,death
ManyreportedcasesofreportedCarbonMonoxidePoisoningindicatethatwhile
victimsareawaretheyarenotwell,theybecomesodisorientedthattheyare
unabletosavethemselvesbyeitherexitingthebuildingorcallingforassistance.
Youngchildrenandpetsmaybethefirsttobeaffected.
WARNING: Individualswithmedicalproblemsshouldconsiderusing
warningdeviceswhichprovideaudibleandvisualsignalsforcarbon
monoxideconcentrationsunder30ppm.

Actuation of this device indicates the presence of Carbon


Monoxide (CO) which can KILL YOU
Ifthealarmsignalsounds,fourbeeps:
1 Pushthehush/testbutton.
2 Immediatelymovetofreshair(outdoorsornexttoanopenwindow).
3 Checkthatallpersonswithintheareaareaccountedfor.
4 Donotreenterthepremises(ormoveawayfromtheopenwindowuntilthe
emergencyservicerespondershavearrived,thepremiseshavebeenairedout,
andyouralarmremainsinnormalcondition.
5 Callemergencyservices,thefiredepartment,or911.
6 Iftheservicesignalsounds,onechirp,thenchecktheservicesectiontotryand
correct.
7 Afterfollowingsteps16,ifyouralarmreactivateswithina24hourperiod,
repeatsteps16andcallyourlocalqualifiedtechniciantoinvestigatefor
sourcesofCOfromfuelburningequipmentandappliancesandinspectfor
properoperationofthisCOdetector.Ifproblemsareidentifiedduringthis
inspection,havetheequipmentservicedorreplacedimmediately.Noteany
combustionequipmentnotinspectedbythetechnicianandconsultthe
manufacturersinstructions,orcontactthemanufacturersdirectlyformore
informationaboutCOsafetyandthisequipment.Makesurethatmotor
vehiclesarenot,andhavenotbeen,operatinginanattachedgarageor
adjacenttotheresidence.

Limited Warranty
