Hi everyone!
Welcome everyone to Cardiff Childrens Literature Festival.
Discover new tales, adventures and friends as we begin the third chapter
of this fantastic festival.
With over 50 exciting events to choose from, book lovers from toddlers to teens will be
inspired by some of the best local and national contemporary authors and illustrators
in both English and Welsh. There are even some special events for adults too!
Authors will be making their words and pictures come to life with tales of fantastical
creatures, pooping dinosaurs, crime-solving detectives, wimpy kids and even some big
pants. Come and meet pirates, princesses, rainbow fairies and many more wonderful
characters. Cardiff will be bursting with stories, so bring your imagination and lets turn
the page

high-prole authors, illustrators and poets have been
brought together to offer a series of free events to
school children at a number of city centre venues.
Guests include David Melling, Nicola Davies,
James Campbell, Elen Caldecott, Steven Butler,

Participation
Leading up to the Festival, primary school children
from across Cardiff and the surrounding areas take
part in workshops in storyboarding, scriptwriting,
poetry and prose. Workshops will be led by writers and
illustrators from Wales.

All sessions last 1 hour unless otherwise stated.

Calling all budding childrens authors, have you got a
childrens book in you? Join author and zoologist Nicola
Davies and top childrens literary agent Philippa MilnesSmith as they share invaluable insider advice on how to
write, and get published.

The Welsh Alice
Alices Adventures in Wonderland is known throughout the
world, but what happens to Alice when she migrates from
one language to another? Professor Sioned Davies from
Cardiff University explores how Alice becomes Alys in
20th Century Welsh translations of this childrens classic.

A Celebration of the work of
T Llew Jones

prolic and popular Welsh childrens writer, T. Llew
Jones. Friends, publishers and writers will share their

there for Barti Ddu and Twm Sin Cati on our childrens

Nigerian storyteller Atinuke is the
author of the Anna Hibiscus picture
books and the No. 1 Car Spotter early
reader series, which deal with universal
childhood themes of growing up
against the backdrop of an African

sights, sounds and hustle and bustle of
life in Africa as she describes the
adventures of an inquisitive young girl
called Anna Hibiscus.

Horrible Histories
with Martin Brown
Join Horrible Histories illustrator Martin
Brown for his action-packed show full of jokes,
drawing and fantastic facts. Martin will reveal
secrets about illustrating the bestselling
series and show the audience how everyone
can draw. Written by Terry Deary and
illustrated by Martin Brown, Horrible
Histories has been lling childrens
heads with foul facts since 1993. The
series is also now a BAFTA award-winning
CBBC show and stage show, with around
100 books ranging from the Savage Stone
Age to the Terrifying Twentieth Century.

This hunt for dreams takes a group of intrepid young writers
and readers on a journey into the unknown, right in the middle
of Cardiff.

Festival illustrator Huw Aaron will be bringing Monkey,


Lion, Hyena, Raccoon and Pelican to life in a madcap
mural...and he'll need plenty of volunteers to help him
colour it in, so come along and get scribbling!

Make and Take Craft Sessions


Our lovely friend from Mini Make and Do will
be running a series of drop-in sessions based
on your favourite characters and stories.
Theyll supply the glue and googley eyes just
bring along plenty of imagination!

Wheres Wally?
Wally, Wenda and Odlaw will be out and
about all weekend in search of factoids
around Cardiff City Centre. Come and
join the hunt, if you nd them you can
exchange your own factoid for a prize!

Character Walkabouts
Look out for other colourful characters throughout the weekend including Sali Mali
and Super Ted. You never know who you might bump into!
