PONT VENTOUX PROJECT

The Pont Ventoux hydroelectric plant, the largest built in Italy in
the last twenty years, is located in the Susa area.
The power plant uses water from the Dora Riparia river
intercepted in Oulx and water from the Clarea river.
Water is diversed to the Val Clarea basin (having a capacity of
561.000 m3) by a free flow tunnel. A pressure tunnel then moves
the water to the underground cavern.
The power plant is equipped with two 150 MW Francis turbines
and allow for up to 457 GWh of energy to be produced per year.
During low-cost night energy hours a pump system makes it
possible to transfer water from the downstream Gorge della Dora
reservoir to the upstream Val Clarea basin, thus maximising
energy production during periods of peak demand.

We will study

16

PV-F2 TUNNEL
We are going to study the PV-F2 tunnel at the maximum
depth of 800 m, where the combination of the
anisotropic stress state and the rock mass properties
allow for spalling behaviour to be anticipated.
