read an article with that very
title in a popular women's
health magazine. The
article covered six common
dieting "rules" that might
be sabotaging your weight
loss efforts. After reading it
thoroughly (and learning a
new thing or two), I came
to the simple realization that
what works for some people
might not work for others.
So to say these rules are lies is wrong. They are suggestions,
really. It's up to you to fnd out what works and what doesn't.
For example, one of the "lies" included in the article was
that daily weigh-ins work against you. I've always heard this!
But new studies suggest otherwise. For me personally, daily
weigh-ins are powerful motivators to keep me on track or
diet down if I splurged too much the day before. I've known
others, who, after seeing the scale not budge day after
day for a week, slacked off or gave up entirely. So, again,
what works for some, may not work for others. And that's
awesome really because we are all unique and we each have
our own effective motivators.
If you know yourself at all, then you will know what will
work or not. If you're still unsure, then keep trying different
strategies (provided they are healthy choices and you're not
starving yourself or damaging your body) until something
works for you. And then, forget about what others say! Listen
to yourself. Believe in yourself and your choices.
Remember, everyone has an opinion. You are welcome to
listen to them. But make sure you're getting your opinions
from educated sources like Max Muscle's Certifed Sports
Nutrition Coaches, personal trainers, registered dieticians,
etc. When you have the education and know your options,
then test these options to see what works for you, then you
will start seeing results!

Max Muscle San Mateo at Fitness Expo

The ftness industry has been growing at amazing rates these last few years, but if you ask die hard
ftness fanatics, they'll tell you that they're a dime a dozen. I myself get crazy looks from people when
carrying a gallon of water or eating out of a Tupperware in class. At Expos, we are surrounded by
so many people who share the same passion for ftness. At the Muscle Sport Evolution Expo, there
were so many people who came up to our booth and introduced themselves and said that they love
our Instagram and Facebook posts. Some took pictures of us and with us. I had a great time at the
event and my favorite thing about it was that I got to see many of the people that fll my social media
feed with daily motivation to do what I do day in and day out. This was the frst ftness expo of 2015
(January 23/24), and there will be many more ahead in Northern California, so be on the look out for

I have been practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for about


12 years. My accolades include The World
championship title, Pan-American championship
title and Brazilian National Title, as well as many
others. I just received my frst degree black belt
back at my home town, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
when I visited back in October, 2014. I started
young, teaching and helping out on the mats
since I was 15 years old. I love my country and
there will be no place like home but I knew deep
inside I would need to move to the United States
to take my game to another level. I realized I
needed to go to a place that recognizes and
gives the Jiu Jitsu more credibility as a profession.
Once I decided, my journey took me to Seattle,
Washington where I have been for the past three
years as the head instructor at school of Elite Brazilian Jiu Jitsu of Bothell. Additionally, and more
recently, I also became the head instructor of Elite Brazilian Jiu Jitsu of Factoria.
As an athlete, being in shape is a natural part of my life. As an active competitor, it is important
to be educated in what my body needs to have an edge in competition. Although ftness and
nutrition were a part of my life, it didn't start becoming a lifestyle until two years ago when I
sustained a very serious knee injury. With the injury keeping me from my sport, it was then I realized
that ftness and nutrition are going to be a necessary part of my lifestyle. Being part of the Max
Muscle Bellevue team has helped me by providing me quality supplements to keep me healthier
and stronger as well as helping me perform at the elite level competitions. My favorite Max Muscle

pH levels?

MANY OF YOU probably are not aware


of the importance of maintaining your
bodys pH levels. I venture to guess that
most of you dont even know what pH
stands for! Fear not, I am going to offer
you a crash course on exactly what pH
is and why many health experts believe
it is the secret to healing and avoiding
many diseases.
pH stands for Power of Hydrogen.
This is a measurement or scale of the
hydrogen ion concentration in the body.
The pH scale ranges from 1 to 14, and
right in the middle is 7, considered to
be neutral. A pH less than 7 is acidic
and a pH greater than 7 is alkaline. Our
ideal pH in urine or saliva is slightly
alkaline, which is slightly above neutral
at 7.25 to 7.5. The best way to test
your pH levels is by using a piece of
litmus paper in your saliva or urine

litmus paper can be purchased at most
health food stores.
Many health experts strongly believe
that many diseases need an acidic
environment to survive. They consider
below 7 as acidic and the lower you
go, obviously the more risk of health
problems. These experts also believe
that if you have an alkaline body of
greater than 7, then you will avoid
many diseases and your health in
general will be optimized.
Fresh fruits and vegetables such as
lemons, grapefruit, spinach, avocados,
kale, cucumbers, asparagus and
cabbage are great for elevating your pH
levels. Citrus fruits are very interesting
because they go into the body as
an acidic fruit, but they are quickly
converted into an alkaline state and
actually elevate pH levels. Many diets

If you want to burn fat more efficiently, you might try drinking
red grape juice or wine, says a study from Oregon State
University. The research, which was performed in the lab on
human liver and fat cells, found that one of the chemicals in
Muscadine grapes, ellagic acid, dramatically slowed the growth
of existing fat cells and formation of new ones. It also boosted
metabolism of fatty acids in the liver cells. While the researchers
were careful to say that this doesnt necessarily mean that grapes
will help you lose weight, it does mean that they can help your
body to burn fat and sugar. How many red grapes you need to
achieve this effect? About a cup and a half a day.

Want to Stay Young? Just Say, 'Om'


If you arent into meditation yet, new research conducted by
investigators at the University of California, Los Angeles suggests
that you should start now as it might help to slow brain aging.
The researchers compared brain images from two groups of
people: those who had practiced meditation for an average of
20 years, and those who didnt meditate. What they found? The
meditators had less overall loss of brain gray matter, the part of
the brain that contains most of the neurons and serves to process
information, and also the part that decreases as we grow older.
The researchers speculate that the intense mental activity involved
with meditation is like brain body building, increasing grey
matter. It may also be that meditation decreases stress, which is
toxic to neurons in the brain. Whatever it is, it
seems that meditation works to keep us young. Om!

Here are some common eye issues
you may encounter in your life,
plus some conventional and nonconventional ways of correcting or
preventing these problems.

The eyes have been said to be the window to the soul, and they are also the window through which
you view the world around you. But most of us take this important sensory organ for granted until something
happens. It could be as subtle as finding that you have to hold your book at arms length, or as drastic as
beginning to lose some of your vision. Here are some common eye conditions
and suggestions from eye docs for treating them:

Presbyopia
Somewhere around the age of 40, most people will notice
that close-up objects a book, the menu or computer
screen start to look blurry. This is an age related
condition called presbyopia, said Brian Francis, MD, MS, an
ophthalmologist who treats clients at the Doheny Eye Center
UCLA in California. According to Dr. Francis, presbyopia
occurs when the lens, the part of the eye that refracts light
and helps your eye to focus on objects at differing distances,
becomes stiff and loses its accommodative ability.
WHAT YOU CAN DO: The easy thing to do, said Dr.
Francis, is to get reading glasses. Readers, which can be
purchased inexpensively in a pharmacy or in the pharmacy
section in a department store, vary in power, from +1
diopter to +3.5. You simply try on the glasses from the
lowest power and progress to increasing powers until you

If you already wear glasses for distance, youll need
to have your presbyopia corrected with bifocals, or with
progressive lenses, which combine correction for distance,
intermediate and near vision in one lens sans the telltale

line. You can also explore a popular technique called


monovision, which is achieved through either contact lenses
or LASIK surgery. Monovision involves correcting one eye
for close-up vision and one eye for distance vision; the brain
adjusts to the different corrections and uses the one that is
needed at any particular time.
Whatever approach youre interested in, said Dr. Francis,
Its important to know that there are other things that
cause blurred vision besides presbyopia. So best bet is to
start with a comprehensive eye exam before shopping for
those chic readers.
NOVEL APPROACHES: Researchers are experimenting
with various forms of presbyLASIK, which is laser surgery
performed on the cornea of the eye. This surgery, which
is not yet FDA-approved in the United States, designates
two or three visual zones (near, intermediate, distance) on
the corneal surface and then corrects the vision at each
separate zone.

Dry Eye Syndrome


Its estimated that some 5 million Americans suffer from

dry eye, a condition that is caused by


decreased tear secretion or increased
evaporation of tears, or both. The
symptoms of dry eye, which according
to Dr. Francis is related to aging and is
very common in menopausal women,
are chronic scratchiness, stinging and
burning of the eyes. The condition can
lead to infammation of the eye tissue
and blurred vision or visual changes.
WHAT YOU CAN DO: For those with
a mild dry eye condition, environmental
modifcations, such as humidifying the
air, avoiding air vents and consciously
blinking more often, may be enough
to relieve symptoms. More serious
problems can be treated with a number
of over-the-counter eye drops designed
to lubricate the eyes, and Omega 3
fatty acids to reduce the infammation
associated with dry eye syndrome.
A prescription medication called
RESTASIS also increases natural tears
by reducing infammation. The most
severe cases may beneft from punctal
plugs, said Dr. Francis, which are
retention devices that block the eyes
drainage ducts and keep the tears in
place. Its a minor surgical procedure
that can be done in the doctors offce,
he explained. The plugs are either
made of dissolvable collagen for those
who want to try this option temporarily,
or silicone for a more permanent
solution.
NOVEL APPROACHES: A number of
eye centers throughout the country are
offering two treatments that work to
unblock the meibomian glands, which
are thought to produce oils that slow
the evaporation of tears. Lipifow
treatments provide a controlled
application of warmth and massage
via an eye piece placed over the eye
to help empty blocked oil glands. And
for more serious cases, Intense pulse
light treatment involves bursts of
light directed at the lower eyelids and
upper cheek areas to heat the glands,
allowing drainage of secretions.

Floaters

As we age, the thick gel-like substance


called vitreous, which is attached to
the retina in the back of the eyes,
crystalizes and liquefes, said Dr.
Francis. The tissue debris that was
once held frm in the vitreous gel

moves around within the liquefed


substance, casting shadows on the
retina, which result in the appearance
of moving dots, threadlike strands or
squiggly lines in your feld of vision,
especially when looking at a lightcolored object, like a sheet of paper.
Floaters occur more frequently in those
who are nearsighted or have diabetes
or in those who have had cataract
surgery.
WHAT YOU CAN DO: Floaters
dont usually require treatment. While
they dont go away, they are typically
less noticeable over time. But if you
experience a sudden onset of foaters,
or if they worsen or are accompanied
by fashes (a sensation of light fashing
in the feld of vision), pain or vision
loss, you should see an eye doctor
immediately, because this could signify
a retinal tear or detachment, both of
which are serious and may lead to loss
of vision.
NOVEL APPROACHES: While most
people with foaters arent bothered too
much by the condition, some with large
or numerous foaters that interfere
with vision opt for a laser procedure
to break up the foaters, which many
eye docs consider largely ineffective.
Another option is foater only
vitrectomy (FOV), a surgical procedure
where parts of the vitreous are
removed. While FOV can be effective
for some people, many are troubled
after the procedure by remnants of
foaters, and the treatment has a high
risk of complications such as cataracts.
Research is currently underway to
develop a pharmacologic vitreolysis, or
drugs that can manipulate the gel state
of the vitreous and its attachment to
the retina.

Cataracts

Most people begin to develop


cataracts, which is the clouding of the
lens of the eye, by their early 60s,
if not sooner. Symptoms of cataract
development may include cloudy,
blurred or dimmed vision, diffculty
with night vision, sensitivity to light
and glare, and fading or yellowing of
colors.

How often should you see the
eye doctor? Its good to begin
eye exams early on, according to
Melissa Barnett, OD, FAAO of the
California Optometric Association
and principal optometrist at the UC
Davis Medical Center. Dr. Barnett
recommends a comprehensive eye
exam beginning at 6 months of
age, then periodic exams at age
3, before beginning elementary
school, and then annually thereafter.
While some eye doctors believe
that adults under age 30 are fne
with every other year exams, Dr.
Barnett believes that an annual
exam is a good opportunity to
check for ocular conditions such as
cataracts, glaucoma and macular
degeneration, as well as to spot
systemic diseases such as diabetes
and hypertension. Its important
to have a comprehensive dilated
eye exam to look at the health of
the eye, she explained. Some
eye conditions have no symptoms.
Glaucoma, unless your eye
pressure is very high, wouldnt be
symptomatic at all.
As for whether you should see an
optometrist or an ophthalmologist,
both types of eye doctors are
trained to diagnose and treat eye
diseases, said Dr. Barnett. But if
you are considering surgery, youll
need to see an ophthalmologist, as
optometrists dont perform surgery.

MAKING LASIK SURGERY SAFER


An estimated 8 million people have turned to LASIK, a laser surgery that
removes a small amount of tissue from your cornea, to correct nearsightedness,
farsightedness and astigmatism. But not everyone is a good candidate for this
surgery, including those with rheumatoid arthritis, persistent dry eyes, glaucoma,
cataracts and diabetes. While its easy to rule out these health conditions, it has
been impossible in the past to rule out whether a LASIK candidate was a carrier
of a condition called Granular Corneal Dystrophy (GCD), a gene mutation that
makes you at high risk of experiencing diminished vision and eventual blindness
following LASIK surgery.
While many with the condition develop symptoms during infancy, progressing to
blindness by adolescence. In others, the disease develops more slowly, making
an appearance only later in life. For those without symptoms of the condition,
there is a new test developed by Avellino Lab that can be performed by an
ophthalmologist to rule out the two forms of the mutation (GCD1 and GCD2)
sparing those found to have the condition from undergoing a surgery that may
lead to blindness. The test is 100 percent sensitive and specific, claimed
Leonard Newman, MD, an ophthalmologist who performs LASIK eye surgery
in California. The newest test, which detects both type 1 and type 2 Granular
Corneal Dystrophy, is affordable, easy and safe, he added.
According to Avellino Lab, the test, called the Avellino DNA Dual Test, costs less
than $200 and involves a simple mouth swab to determine whether a person
carries either form of the gene mutation. Right now insurance companies dont
pay for this test, but most of my patients choose to have it done anyway, said
Dr. Newman. Even though the disease is quite rare, if you have the condition,
you want to know. Patients can take comfort knowing they wont run the risk of
blindness following surgery.

YOGA HAS BEEN around for thousands of years, but in


the last decade it has become more mainstream in America.
Recreational and professional athletes alike are rolling out
their mats on a regular basis for improvements in athletic
performance and so much more.
Scientifcally, yoga has proven to provide numerous
benefts. Studies credit yoga with reduction of low back
pain, decreased risk of injuries, increased core strength and
fexibility, as well as neurological and hormonal changes that
elevate pain-tolerance levels, reduce anxiety and enhance
focus and concentration.
The word yoga literally means, to yoke, or union. It is

recreational exercisers, injuries from repetitive movements such
as squats, overhead presses and even gripping iron dumbbells

only that, but frequent intense training sessions can wreak

Here are eight yoga poses to help you not only feel
balanced in your body, but also awaken to the mental and

2. FOREARM
SIDE PLANK

HOW TO: Begin in forearm


plank. Turn your right arm
so the outer edge of your
forearm is parallel to the
top of the mat. Bring feet
together and kick both heels
to the right. Stack your feet.
Lift your hips and extend your
left arm towards the sky in
line with your right shoulder.
BENEFITS: Strengthens
rotator cuff muscles, core and
hips. Helps prevent shoulder
injuries, IT band syndrome and
low back pain.

3. TRIANGLE POSE

HOW TO: Stand with feet


together. Step or jump feet
2.5-3.5 feet apart. Spread your
arms out to the sides in line with
your shoulders, palms facing
down. Turn right foot to the
right 90 degrees and left foot
in slightly to a 45-degree angle.
Firm your thighs, press into the
outer edge of the left heel and
extend your torso to the right.
Place your right hand on your
shin, ankle or the ground on the
outside of your right foot as you
reach your left arm upwards to
the sky in line with your right
shoulder. Gaze upward towards
your left arm or straight ahead.
BENEFITS: Improves hip
mobility; stretches hamstrings,
hips, shoulders, chest and spine.

HOW TO: Lie on your back with your feet hip distance
apart and your arms at your sides. Bend your knees bringing
your heels towards your glutes. With an inhalation lift your
hips off the ground. Interlace your fngers under your back.
Lightly frm the outer glutes and lift the hips until your thighs
are parallel to the foor. (For a restorative version place a
block under your sacrum.) Extend your tailbone towards the
back of the knees, but keep your knees in line with your
ankles. Elongate your cervical spine by slightly lifting the chin
away from your sternum. Firm the shoulder blades against
your back. Get your arms totally straight. Rotate the triceps
down so the eye of the elbow turns upwards, and try to get
the palms to touch. BENEFITS: Strengthens glutes and
hamstrings. Stretches chest, neck and shoulders.

HOW TO: Starting in downward facing dog, lift your right


leg up, lunge your right foot in between your hands. Drop the
left knee to the foor. Release your left toes and slide your
left leg way back. Walk your right foot to your left hand and
drop your right knee to the foor. Make sure your right shin is
parallel to the front of your mat. Keep your right foot fexed
to protect the knee. (Modifcation: Keep a block under your
right hip.) Square your hips by rolling your left hip down.
Rotate your left inner thigh to the sky. Pull your sternum
forward. Depending on your fexibility, remain upright, lower
down to your forearms or reach arms forward.
BENEFITS: Stretches hip fexors, thighs and glute
muscles. Helps prevent back pain.

7. RECLINED SPINAL TWIST

HOW TO: Start lying on your back with legs extended out.
Hug your right knee into your chest. Release your right arm
out until the right palm faces up. Look to the right.
Drop your right knee over to the left side of your body.
Scoot your left hip back 1-2 inches to the right. BENEFITS:
Balances nervous system, releases tension in the low back.

HOW TO: Lie on your back with legs extended and arms
relaxed at your sides with palms facing up. (For comfort, roll
a blanket under your knees and neck.) Relax your body and
quiet your mind. Remain in this pose for 5-10 minutes or as

What makes yoga a transformative practice is the


linking of breath to movement. The term pranayama
refers to the practice of controlling the breath. Prana
literally means life force. Our breath provides life
and energy and can also be used to calm the mind and
relieve stress. Breathing in through the nose stimulates
the olfactory nerve, which triggers the parasympathetic
nervous system providing stress relief.
Ujjayi means, to become victorious. Using
this breath during your yoga practice puts you in the
fow as it creates heat in the body, strengthens the

When new customers walk into his Eugene, Oregon store,
Tom is there to help them be ft and healthy so they can own
their own health. It doesnt matter if their goal is athletic
performance, weight loss, muscle gain or fghting fatigue, he

Four years ago when Tom opened his business across the
street from the University of Oregon and only six blocks from
Hayward Field where they hold the Olympic trials and NCAA
Championships, he knew he would be interacting with top

Before the store even offcially opened a University of


Oregon student athlete stopped by to see what Max Muscle
was all about. He was a football player and interested in a
quality creatine product but had never heard of Max Muscle
before. The words "sports nutrition" on the sign had grabbed
his attention and he was curious. As a collegiate athlete
governed by NCAA rules, it was important that he did not
take a product on the banned substance list and inadvertently
fail a test. Tom talked to him about Max Muscle products, the
Quality Ingredients Guarantee and how nothing he carried
in his store contained any banned substance that would

disqualify a student athlete by NCAA rules. The student left


that day with the product and the product data sheet that
outlines each and every ingredient in the product. Tom had
even recommended the athlete share it with his trainer and

One by one, student athletes started coming into Toms store

the speed of chemical reactions.
Without them, those reactions
would take place too slowly to keep
you alive. In the digestive system,
enzymes break down large molecules
into smaller ones. The enzymes that
make DNA use small molecules to
build large complex ones. Enzymes
also help cells to communicate with
each other: this regulates cell growth,
longevity and timed cellular death.
Enzymes help with bone remodeling
(your body is constantly breaking down
and rebuilding your bones) and they
provide a protective barrier around
the brain. There are literally millions
of enzymatic functions in our complex

enzymes that either launch a reaction
or speed something up.
One of the leading authorities on
enzymes is Dr. Anthony Cichoke. In his
book, Enzymes and Enzyme Therapy,
he says, Our bodys ability to function,
to repair when injured and to ward
off disease is directly related to the
strength and numbers of our enzymes.
Some enzymes are actually
conglomerations of an enzyme protein
and co-factors but we still just call it an
enzyme. The protein (aka polypeptide)
in the enzyme conglomeration is called
the apoenzyme. In its inactive form its
also called a proenzyme or zymogen.
Cofactors are non-protein substances
and are also called coenzymes. Organic
cofactors/coenzymes are often derived
from vitamins. Inorganic cofactors
are metal ions or metal ion activators.
These are often derived from minerals.
Depending on which lock an enzyme
(or enzyme conglomeration) is
unlocking, it will have different kinds of
energy bonds holding it together and a
different geometric shape.

HOW TO SPOT AN ENZYME


Enzymes are typically named by
adding a suffx -ase to the root
name of the molecule it is acting
upon. So the enzyme Lipase catalyzes
(starts the reaction for) the hydrolysis
(breakdown) of a lipid triglyceride.
Sucrase catalyzes the hydrolysis of
sucrose into glucose and fructose.
(Some of the frst enzymes discovered
were named before this became the

norm, like pepsin and trypsin.)


As catalysts, enzymes reduce the
amount of activation energy required
for a reaction to occur. For example,
a very common reaction in your cells
is the conversion of sugars such as
glucose to carbon dioxide and water.
Glucose is a very stable molecule
and can be stored for years without
converting to carbon dioxide and
water. But if you use a lit match to
add energy to some glucose, like an
enzyme, you would be providing the
activation energy required to start the
reaction. This is what happens when
you use a match to light a piece of
paper (remember, paper is made of
cellulose which is a polymer made from
glucose). Less activation energy means
the reaction can occur more quickly
without raising the temperature. So,
enzymes basically save important
energy by reducing the need for
activation energy.
Down in the stomach, enzymes
ensure that food is cut into tiny
particles that can be converted into
energy in the body. The process starts
in the mouth with amylase and from
there different enzymes continue to
break down the food all the way to
the stomach and intestines. Without
enzymes we would die from starvation
because none of our food would break
down, be absorbed or provide energy
and nutrition for the body. Without
enzymes, great food becomes a waste
of money!

ENZYMES THEYRE
EVERYWHERE!
One of the unique things about
enzymes is that they have one function
and one function only. Every function
or substrate in an organism has its
own unique enzyme. Only when the
right enzyme is matched up with the
right substrate can the necessary
biochemical reaction occur.

syrup made using enzymes, bread in

ENZYMES ARE LIKE


STRING THEORY
As proteins, enzymes consist of
long strings of amino acids. Each
enzyme is made of anywhere from
a hundred to almost a million amino
acids strung together like a set of
pearls. Amino acids are held together
by chemical bonds. There are 20
different kinds of amino acids used
in various combinations to make an
enzyme string, but each enzyme has
its own unique combination, which is
determined by the genes in the cells.
Even though an enzyme is a string
of amino acids, its not a long straight
string. The string is coiled and folded
thousands of times to form a complex,
three-dimensional structure. (Strangely,
this is similar to String Theory and an
explanation of time.) The chemical
interactions and bonds between the
amino acids dictate their structure
and their structure determines the
enzymes function. Even the slightest

sequence can have a major impact on
the protein structure, and therefore,
function of an enzyme.
Digestive enzymes need to be taken
with food. Its best to take them 5 to
10 minutes before you begin a meal.
Systemic enzymes need to be taken
on an empty stomach, otherwise
they will go to work on the food
products in your digestive system too.
Systemic enzymes provide a safe and
effective way to reduce infammation
by breaking down fbrin. Amazingly,
systemic enzymes discern which
proteins are supposed to be in your
body and those that arent, such as
viruses (the enzyme lock and key
mechanism), so they can help you
keep pathogens at bay.

1 cup uncooked freekeh


1 cups apple juice
1 cup distilled water
cup pineapple juice
tsp cinnamon
2 Tbs fresh lemon juice

Combine freekeh, apple juice, water, and
pineapple juice in a medium saucepan over
medium high heat. Bring to a boil, cover and

In a large mixing bowl, stir together cooled
freekeh, cinnamon, lemon juice, goji berries,
apricots, yogurt (start with 1 cups and add
remaining cup as desired), 1/3 cup of the
almonds, 2 tablespoons of cashews, and 1

Place in serving bowls, drizzle with honey

Performance in Women
Researchers at the University of Oklahoma set out to examine the effects of 28 days of
beta-alanine supplementation on the physical working capacity at fatigue threshold (PWCFT),
ventilatory threshold (VT), maximal oxygen consumption (VO2-MAX) and time to exhaustion
(TTE) in women. Twenty-two women were randomly assigned to either the beta-alanine
(CarnoSyn) or placebo group and tested by continuous, incremental cycle ergometry test to
exhaustion to determine the outcome measures. Results of this study showed that betaalanine supplementation delays the onset of neuromuscular fatigue and the ventilatory
threshold at submaximal workloads and increase in TTE during maximal cycle ergometry
performance, but had no affect on VO2-MAX. Researchers concluded that beta-alanine
supplementation improves submaximal cycle ergometry performance and TTE in young
women from an increased buffering capacity due to elevated muscle carnosine concentrations.

Spain set out to evaluate the efects of diet supplementation with
L-citrulline-malate prior to intense exercise on the metabolic handle
of plasma amino acids, nitric oxode and the efects on the hormonal
