CarnoSyn Beta-Alanine Improves Exercise

Performance in Women
Researchers at the University of Oklahoma set out to examine the effects of 28 days of
beta-alanine supplementation on the physical working capacity at fatigue threshold (PWCFT),
ventilatory threshold (VT), maximal oxygen consumption (VO2-MAX) and time to exhaustion
(TTE) in women. Twenty-two women were randomly assigned to either the beta-alanine
(CarnoSyn) or placebo group and tested by continuous, incremental cycle ergometry test to
exhaustion to determine the outcome measures. Results of this study showed that betaalanine supplementation delays the onset of neuromuscular fatigue and the ventilatory
threshold at submaximal workloads and increase in TTE during maximal cycle ergometry
performance, but had no affect on VO2-MAX. Researchers concluded that beta-alanine
supplementation improves submaximal cycle ergometry performance and TTE in young
women from an increased buffering capacity due to elevated muscle carnosine concentrations.

COME & GET YOUR WHEY

To highlight the recent evidence for optimal protein intake and protein
supplementation in older adults, researchers from the Universitat Oldenburg, Germany
conducted a study on the effects on muscle protein synthesis, strength and overall
performance in this population. Supplementation
with leucine-rich, whey (fast) proteins, greater
than 0.8g/kg body weight, proved superior with
regard to muscle protein synthesis. Earlier studies
in frail older adults showed increased strength
after supplementation with milk protein,
whereas the combination with physical
exercise increased muscle mass without
additional beneft for strength or functionality.
Evidence from this study suggests positive
effects of protein supplementation on muscle
protein synthesis, muscle mass and muscle
strength. (Bauer JM, Diekmann R. Curr Opin
Clin Nutr Metab Care. 2015 Jan;18(1):2431). MMSN Featured Product:

Enhance Your Workouts

Researchers at the University of Balearic Islands, Illes Balears,

Spain set out to evaluate the efects of diet supplementation with
L-citrulline-malate prior to intense exercise on the metabolic handle
of plasma amino acids, nitric oxode and the efects on the hormonal
levels. Seventeen voluntary male pre-professional cyclists were
randomly assigned to one of two groups: control or supplemented
L-citrulline-malate 2 hr prior exercise and participated in a 137km cycling stage. Researchers found that most essential amino
acids signifcantly decreased their plasma concentration as a result
of exercise. However, most non-essential amino acids tended to
signifcantly increase their concentration. Growth Hormone was
higher in the citrulline-malate supplemented group. Researchers
concluded that L-citrulline-malate supplementation can enhance
the use of amino acids, especially the branched chain amino acids
during exercise and also enhance the production of argininederived metabolites such as nitrite, creatinine, ornithine and urea.
