ROHTO Pharmaceutical (ROHTO) is a Japan-based company that manufactures and sells a range
of pharmaceutical products, cosmetics and food products that include eye care, skincare, internal
medicines and other supplement products. The company operates in North America, Europe, South
Africa and Asia Pacific.
The company operates through the following four business segments: eye care, skincare, oral and
nutrition, and other.
ROHTOs eye care segment offers various eye care products, including eye drops, eyewash
preparations and contact lens care products.The companys skincare segment offers various products
for face care, hand and body care, lip care and hair care. The company also offers ultraviolet (UV)
protection, antiperspirant, acne care and other skin care products for men, women and children.
The company's oral and nutrition segment offers gastrointestinal drugs, herbal medicines, bacteria
tablets and other medicines. ROHTOs other segment offers pregnancy test kits, nasal wash products,
disinfection and sterilization products, and other health drinks.

History

HISTORY
ROHTO Pharmaceutical (ROHTO) was founded in 1899 as Yamada Pharmaceutical. The company
was established in 1949 and was renamed as ROHTO Pharmaceutical (ROHTO).
The company was listed on Second Section of Osaka Stock Exchange in 1961. In the following year,
the company was listed in second section of Tokyo Stock Exchange.
ROHTO was listed on the First Section of both Tokyo Stock Exchange and Osaka Stock Exchange
in 1964.
The company acquired Mentholatum trademark rights from The Mentholatum Company (USA) in
1974. In 1988, ROHTO acquired management rights to The Mentholatum Company (USA).
ROHTO established a joint venture company, The Mentholatum (Zhongshan) Pharmaceuticals in
Zhongshan, China, in 1991.
In 1996, The Mentholatum (Zhongshan) Pharmaceuticals started the production and sales of New
V Rohto Plus eye drops in China. In the following year, the company established Rohto-Mentholatum
(Vietnam) and began the production of eye drops and skin care products.
ROHTO acquired MG Pharma in 2002. In the following year, the company completed the Ueno
Techno center Plant Wing.
The company launched a research facility, Rohto Research Village in Kyoto, in 2006.
ROHTO acquired Meguro Kako, a manufacturer of pharmaceutical products, cosmetics and health
products from Sankyo Co., in 2007.
In 2012, the company established branches in Sendai and Hiroshima.
