Good Morning,
Let me start by welcoming you to the Connected East Africa Summit
2015 with the theme The strength is in our Network. Its been a
journey, since we started off in 2009 with only a handful of public
sector players in the then Connected Government summit.
We have grown tremendously over the years, and now on our 7th year,
I look back with pride at how much we have achieved through a
network of players. Projects such as the Kenya Open Data Initiative,
Huduma citizens portal, Shared Services approaches and the
development of a national Information Security Policy were informed or
refined from discussions and panels held at Connected Kenya.
During last years Summit, two significant actions took place;
Firstly, Connected Kenya morphed into Connected East Africa ICT
conference which has culminated into this inaugural the event today.
Secondly, the National ICT Master Plan was unveiled. The Plan enhances
our smart Africa agenda by helping to develop a dynamic and robust ICT
sector that will enhance socio economic growth for us by driving ICT
adoption and usage. I can report that we will give a status report at this
meeting, as we had promised in the last Summit.
This year the key items that we want to pay attention to include;
1)
2)
3)
4)

To address the gaps in ICT integration and shared infrastructure

among the East African Member states
To speed-up harmonization of ICT regulation across the region
To build support on ongoing ICT integrated infrastructure projects
across the East African region.
To provide platform for meaningful networking among us

Its time we looked at how we ensure that our infrastructure is protected

by having the right conversations right at the design stage.
As the ICT Authority, we are glad to present this platform for such
important deliberations.
