Introducing the Defence Materiel Organisation

The Defence Materiel Organisations (DMO) purpose is to equip and sustain the Australian

(ADF) units deploying on operations. We manage over 180 major capital equipment projects
and over 50 minor projects and we also sustain and upgrade over one hundred existing
fleets.
For more information about the DMO visit www.defence.gov.au/dmo.

Position Description
From fighter aircraft and Navy ships to soldier systems, the Defence Materiel Organisation
(DMO) is one of Australias largest program management, logistics, procurement and
engineering services organisations. DMO has offices in more than 70 locations throughout
Australia and overseas. We are a civilian organisation responsible for acquiring and
sustaining the equipment used by the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
The Defence Materiel Organisation Materiel Graduate Scheme offers an 18 month
graduate program, consisting of three six month rotations, at various locations around
Australia. Positions are available in various locations across ACT, NSW, VIC, QLD, SA and
WA, with one rotation based in Canberra.
The Departments generous remuneration package, conditions of service and leave benefits
will contribute to you enjoying a happy work/life balance. The program also includes
assistance to achieve industry based professional recognition.
The Materiel Graduate Scheme recruits high-calibre university graduates from a range of
degree disciplines into four development streams:

Engineering;

Logistics;

Procurement and Contracting.

For further information regarding these opportunities and relevant job disciplines, go to
www.defence.gov.au/graduates or contact the Defence Graduate Office via the email on the

Relocation Assistance
Transition from study to career can be a challenging one. For many, it is also the first time
they have lived away from home, and all graduates will experience moving interstate at some
stage during their time on the Materiel Graduate Scheme. We work hard to make the whole
process as easy as possible for you and offer relocations assistance to help you meet the
costs involved with relocation in accordance with Defence policy.

What do we mean by disability?

For the purposes of the scheme, disability is:
a limitation, restriction or impairment which has lasted, or is likely to last, for at least six

loss of sight (not corrected by glasses or contact lenses)
loss of hearing where communication is restricted, or, an aid to assist with or
substitute for hearing is used
speech difficulties
shortness of breath or breathing difficulties causing restriction
chronic or recurrent pain or discomfort causing restriction
blackouts, fits, or loss of consciousness
difficulty learning or understanding
incomplete use of arms or fingers

mental illness or condition requiring help or supervision
long-term effects of head injury, stroke or other brain damage causing restriction
receiving treatment or medication for any other long-term conditions or ailments
and still restricted
any other long-term conditions resulting in a restriction.

The two parts of the definition are the presence of a limitation, restriction or impairment which
restricts everyday activities; and the expected longevity of the condition (6 months or more).
This also includes episodic conditions.
The definition covers many types of disability. You do not need evidence of your disability to
opt into the scheme, but you are making a declaration to the APS that you meet the
definition.
