DISASTER

Recovering Survivors from Super Typhoon

Haiyan/Yolanda, Battered by Another Strong Typhoon
Hagupit/Ruby

The propulsion of survivors to recover from devastation

caused by deadly typhoon Haiyan in November 8, 2013 have
been hampered by the landfall of another strong typhoon
Hagupit on Saturday, December 6, 2014 that, until today
wroth havoc to properties and livelihood of thousands of
families in Eastern Visayas and other regions in the Philippines
hardly hit by the wild catastrophe.
Our surviving brothers and sisters have already been in the
momentum of striving to recuperate from the loss of lives,
properties and livelihood claimed
by super typhoon
Haiyan/Yolanda, but now typhoon Ruby relentlessly thwarted
it, lamented by Rev. Levi Lou Amora, Program Coordinator
of the East Visayas Jurisdictional Area of the United Church
of Christ in the Philippines.
The vast devastations were in those areas located along the
sea cost that has been battered by the combination of strong
wind, heavy rain and storm surge, added Rev. Levi Lou.
Most likely, majority if not all of our on-going rehabilitation
projects in the ground might be partly and/or totally
damaged. Particularly, the newly repaired roofing of the
structure where EVJA-UCCP office is located has flown away
by the storm. It would cost another sacrifice of labor and
resources to replace the destroyed structure, remarked the
Pastor.
The initial report thru GMA 7 news, from the Philippine Red
Cross, confirmed 23 casualties as of December 8, 2014, eight
oclock in the evening yesterday in all affected areas
throughout the Philippines. The 21 casualties out of 23 are
from Eastern Samar.
However, historical experience proved that while the
unfortunate reality of pain and suffering resulting from
natures wrath, such as typhoons, storm surge, flash flood,
earthquakes, tidal waves, and the like adversely frustrates
lifes aspirations and hope, it does not put an end to the
peoples resiliency to positively face and embrace a bright
future beyond challenging calamities!
Last nights television report showed typhoon survivors young
and old still have the heart and voice to sing Christmas songs
expressing their joy and hope against all hopes!

As the storm quieted down, well go down to the ground, to

the local churches and communities not only for ocular
survey and data gathering on the impact of typhoon
Hagupit/Ruby, but to proclaim hope of life amidst and beyond
disaster by Gods eternal mercy and grace, assured Bishop
Jaime Moriles, Area Bishop of the East Visayas Jurisdiction,
UCCP. This is another cataclysm that moves our faith to
respond collectively and appropriately aimed at upholding
lifes dignity of hapless survivors from pain, suffering and lose
of life, properties and livelihood. With this, we humbly appeal
our sisters and brothers here and abroad of your prayers and
support, concluded Bishop Moriles.
