Montage:
Description:
An inspirational poster for those who need an uplifting message.

Programs:
Date:

Adobe Photoshop

February 13, 2015

Course:

Comm 130 | Section 06

Instructor:

Brother Judkins

Objectives:
Use adobe Photoshop to create an inspirational poster while using techniques such as masking,
selection, etc.

Process:
Picked out three images I wanted to include in my montage.(A picture of Jesus, stars, and the
earth.) Inserted picture of the stars into an 118.5 frame in Adobe Photoshop.
Used the lasso tool and dragged pictures of Jesus and the Earth into the picture of the stars
so that they all came together into one montage. Used masks on the picture of Jesus and the
Earth, and blended those images into the star picture using the black and grey brushes. I used
a darker brush on the edges of the picture, and a lighter brush for the center of the pictures.
I then used the sharpen tool and the selective color to enhance both the images. I used the
sharpen tool to define the images better for the picture of Jesus and the Earth, and the selective
color to make the background image of the stars more dark blue. Then I inserted text into the
bottom left of the image, giving the montage a lot of white space. I used the color red so that it
could be included in the color scheme I wanted, and used two different font styles to contrast
the fonts. (Sans-Serif and Serif.) Lastly, I saved the picture as a JPEG and made sure that it
was the right size I wanted, and then converted the JPEG into a PDF.

Flier:
Description:
A flier for a graduation coming up in the near future.

Programs:
Date:

Adobe InDesign

January 24, 2015

Course:

Comm 130 | Section 06

Instructor:

Brother Judkins

Objectives:
Use adobe indesign to create a professional flier using techniques such as the shapes tool,
transform too and learn the basics of principle of design.

Process:
First before I started creating my flier in InDesign, I drew out four sketches on a piece of blank
white paper of what I would like my flier to look like. I then picked one out of the four sketches
I liked more and used it as a guide to create the layout in Adobe InDesign. I first put the logo
onto the top left corner, then used a black rectangle box to flow from the logo horizontally, and
a grey box flowing from the logo vertically. I used contrast to make the title in the black box
to stand out from the rest of the text in the body so the reader will first know what to look for.
I used bullet points so that the reader will know which direction he/she should read. I used
the image of recent graduates dressed as professionals that was provided for me so the reader
will know who I am targeting. Lastly, through the use of unity and simplifying, I made sure
to create a lot of white space in the design so that the flier doesnt look crowded and provides
unified, simple design.

Letterhead:
Description:
A letterhead matched with a business card used with a logo I created.

Programs:

Adobe InDesign

February 26, 2015

Course:

Comm 130 | Section 06

Instructor:

Brother Judkins

Objectives:
Use Adobe Indesign to create a letterhead using skills such as opacity, We used skills such as
working with alignment and placing text.

Process:
Before starting the stationary project, we made a logo in Illustrator. When working on this
project, I first opened up InDesign and created two different blank documents at 8.5X11. I
copied and pasted the logo I made from Illustrator and placed it on the top left corner of my
letterhead. I then inserted my name, the address of the company, phone number, email, etc on
the right of the logo. To separate the logo and addresses from the rest of the copy that the letter
would make, I made two dotted lines underneath the logo. Then, I created an image of Saturn
using Adobe Illustrator and the pathfinder tool, and pasted it onto the bottom right side of the
letterhead, also giving it transparency to look like a water mark. I then turned my attention to
the business card, which I used a lot of elements from the letterhead to make the business card.
I put the logo on the front side, covering up most of the space, and on the back I made the logo
small on placed it on the top left. Lastly, I used the transparent image of Saturn and pasted it
onto the business card, along with the addresses that I made from the letterhead.

Programs:

Microsoft Word

February 13, 2015

Course:

Comm 130 | Section 06

Instructor:

Brother Judkins

Objectives:
Learning how to create a poster in Microsoft word if Adobe products are not avaiable. I used
skills such as creating shapes, inserting images, text and cropping. Also learned how to scan
images.

Process:
First what I did, was I scanned an image from a muscle car calendar and posted the image
onto my Microsoft Word Document. I then sketched out ideas on how I wanted my Event Ad
to look like. I then decided on one idea and started working with how I wanted the layout to
be on Microsoft Word. I made a rectangle with a black border to represent the movie screen in
front of the car, and then inserted text blocks so that I could write my title and body copy. For
the title, I decided to go with a modern font that looked like a font that would go with a movie
poster, and for the body copy I decided to go with something very readable, which was the sans
serif font called corbel. Also, to make the fonts pop out more, I decided to contrast the font with
the background. So, to do that, I made the background a dark grey, and then used a light red
for the title (also to unify the design) and white so that there was a noticeably big difference
in contrast. This was not an easy project. I felt that using Microsoft Word was very difficult.
But, I learned a lot from this project, and I know someday I will be using this knowledge in the
future.

Course:

Comm 130 | Section 06

Instructor:

Brother Judkins

Objectives:
Use Adobe Illustrator to create small, thumbnail logos for the Clark Planetarium, and
learning how to use typography with a logo.

Process:
I used Adobe Illustrator to build my logo. First, what I did was sketch out ideas of what I
wanted my logo to look like, and also what company I wanted to build one for. The first two
logos I wanted to be shape logos with the text on the bottom and the last bottom logo to be a
type logo. For the first two what I did was make an outline of what I wanted to surround the
logo, so for the first one I made a circle and the second I made a square. I then used the shapes
tool to create stars, and on the second logo I used circles and squares from the shapes tool to
create an observatory. For the first logo I wanted to create a hand that was reaching out to the
stars, so what I did was paste an image of a hand onto the Illustrator document, and outlined
it with the pen tool. For the last logo I made sure that the type was very readable, so I made it
big. I needed to include some sort of design in it so I decided to put Saturns ring behind the
text, and a star above the C. Lastly, I picked three different color schemes for my logos that
would fit in with the whole planetarium theme.

HTML/CSS

March 14, 2015

Course:

Comm 130 | Section 06

Instructor:

Brother Judkins

Objectives:
Using HTML/CSS to create a website for a business we made projects in the past for using
skills such as proper HTML syntax and semantics, and selectors in CSS.

Process:
I used sublime text 2 to write code in HTML and CSS. I first typed out what I needed to have in
the whole document using different tags. I used an h1 tag for the heading of the page, inserted
my logo image with <img src=>. Next, I used a <p> tag to create a description of my logo
and then I created an <h2> tag to make a heading for the list of steps that I used to make this
logo. I used the unordered list to create the steps to make my logo. Lastly for the HTML, I
made another paragraph at the bottom, and included a link to my wordpress website using the
anchor tag. For the CSS, I downloaded the CSS file that was included with the steps to making
this project, and adjusted my websites style using that. I changed the colors, made the borders
of the box a little more pointed, and also changed the font family, line height and color of the
fonts.

Adobe Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator

March 28, 2015

Course:

Comm 130 | Section 06

Instructor:

Brother Judkins

Objectives:
Using all the Adobe products we used in this class to create a brochure for something we are
interested in. We used skills such as paragraph styling and text wrap.

Process:
With this project, I used all of the adobe products that we learned in class. I used Illustrator
to design my logo, Photoshop to work with the pictures I used on the internet to go into my
brochure, and Indesign to print the text and insert the layout of the entire brochure. What I
first did was make the logo, and I used the shapes tool, the color palette to include a light blue
and a dark blue to the logo, and then copied an EPS of the logo so I could include it into the
brochure. Next, I searched for images that I could use for the brochure, and I wanted them
to be half clip art, and half images from the resort. So, I found the images and included them
in Indesign. I needed to make one of the pictures have text wrap around it, so what I did was
use the lasso tool from Photoshop to cut out the image of the goggles, and then inserted that
into the Indesign document. I then pulled up the text wrap window and had the text wrap
around, but stay a little ways away from the image so it doesnt look crowded. In the Indesign
document, I use the grids and ruler to place where I wanted the folds to be, so I knew where I
would need to place all the elements on the page.
