Join the Aging Network

in Celebrating 40 Years
of Achievement!
In 1973, when Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) were first established in the Older
Americans Act (OAA), they were given a bold mandate to serve as the critical link
between vulnerable older adults and the social services needed to help them live
with dignity and independence in their homes and communities well into later
life. Fast-forward 40 years, and AAAsnow more than 600 agencies strongcan
look back with pride at an impressive track record of success connecting millions of older Americans with the meals,
rides, personal care, and information and referral services that have enabled so many of them to live with dignity and
independence. In 1978, Title VI of the OAA was added to ensure similar services were provided by Native American Tribal
organizations. Title VI grantees now number more than 250 across the country.
But the Aging Network has more than just its proud history to celebrate. In an environment of severe budgetary
constraints and fast-changing market forcesall occurring as the older adult population grows at an unprecedented
ratethe Network isnt resting on its laurels.
AAAs are expanding their portfolio of services to include integrated care, Medicaid managed care and care transitions,
while also broadening the base of people they serve, with increasing numbers of AAAs providing support for people
with disabilities under age 60 and caregivers and veterans of all ages.
This is an especially exciting time for the Network, as many AAAs celebrate 40 years of achievement in 2015, a journey
that the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a) has been privileged to share with them.
We invite you to join us in recognizing the invaluable contributions of our members to the lives of older adults and
caregivers, and to add your voice to the crucial dialogue over the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead by
participating in the n4a 40th Annual Answers on Aging Conference & Tradeshow in Philadelphia from July 11-15, 2015. There
will be a reception on Tuesday, July 14 to celebrate 40 years of achievement!
