Montage
Description

A montage using two or more photos and typography to create an

inspirational message.

Programs Used
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives

Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant inspirational

message
Learn to blend two or more images together gradually
Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image

Process

I found a quote that I liked, and then came up with a few design
ideas. After searching the internet for images to match my sketches,
I found the two I used and put them together. I thought the colors
worked well. I wanted to put more emphasis on the words, so I added
the faded lines and made them larger. To create the faded effect I used
the opacity levels. I used it at 100% to get rid of the hard edge, and
alternately used lower levels to create the subtle fade.

Programs Used
Adobe Photoshop

Objectives

To create a theme to be used through each piece of the announcement

To incorporate pictures given to me

Process

I started with the larger announcement. It is a montage of two photos

with the text as the top layer. I edited the light picture as I need
(selective color, levels, virbrance) and then used the brush tool and a
mask to bring out the engagement picture. Then, to make the lights
brighter I added vribrancy.
The back was done by adding the three images on top of the black
and white image. They were aligned through markers I dragged from
the side and top rulers.
The small cards were similar to the rest. I adjusted the photo as
needed. On the back I added the same blue and same font to create
repetition.

Adobe Photoshop

Objectives

Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then

incorporate the colors into the layout
Use a digital camera to take a quality image
Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on
separate layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.)
Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in
Photoshop

Process

I began by taking the picture. Once I had the picture I started

sketching different ideas of where words could go. I used Photoshop
to edit the photo, with special emphasis on the levels, vibrancy/
saturation, selective color, and sharpen tools. I learned how to use the
layers of photoshop, as well as learn to use the ellipses tool. I used the
eye dropper tool in order to keep a matching color scheme.

Brochure
Description

A unique, double sided, and folded brochure.

Programs Used
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe InDesign

Objectives

Set up and align a two-sided, folded document

Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least four quality images,
not including the logo. One should be clipped in Photoshop and
text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the
image.

Process

I used InDesign to create my brochure. To make the concept of the

pizza I created the outline of the hexagon as my pan and then added
the triangles off each edge. Each triangle then became a slice of pizza.
To create my logo I tried a few of my ideas in Adobe Illustrator. I
then decided to keep the theme simple, but homemade (like the pizza
concept) so I drew a heart with the pencil tool. It looked too plain, so
I filled in the heart.

Pizza is Love is set on bringing you one

hundred percent perfection on each pizza.
Why?
Hal Stanforth, the mastermind behind Pizza is Love,
knew that the world was hard for him and would only
get harder for later generations. He wanted to create the
place where people could enjoy a small slice of heaven.
His restaraunts are meant to be warm and friendly so
that each customer who comes through his door can
sit down, take a load off, and enjoy the best homemade
pizza.

Thank you Hal!

HP Scanner

Objectives

Find, scan and import a high-quality image

Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your message
and audience
Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe
programs, including Photoshop.

Process

I found my image in the Western Horseman Magazine and scanned

the image. Once I had my image I went through the FOCUS process.
I formulated a plan by sketching a few ideas and thinking of what
colors I wanted to take from the image. I organized my body copy
with the similar information. I played with a contrasting color, but
decided to keep the original colors within the image. I used Microsoft
Word to create the ad and now that I understand the hidden tools
within this system I could make more even faster.

Programs Used
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe InDesign

Objectives

Business card should be 3.5 x 2

Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Do not imitate
existing logos or use previous designs. Dont use photos or live trace
Include contact information: name, address, phone, website, and
email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone number;
no parentheses/ hyphens

Process

I first created the logo in Adobe Illustrator by using the basic shapes
and the rotator tool to ensure even spacing and similar shapes. Once I
created my logo I placed it into Adobe InDesign.
To create the business card I started with the blue background. To add
my logo I added a rectangle using the shape tool, and then placed my
photo there. I added the text, creating a modern, clean look, much
like how a garden should feel once completed.

TextWrangler

Objectives

Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. (Include all required tags

Doctype (provided), html, head, title, meta charset (provided), body,
h1, h2, p, ol or ul (with li tags), img, br, and a link to blog)
Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. (Customize the provided
CSS provided to format the HTML to complement the logo design.
Change at least the following: The h1 text color & h1 background
color, font colors for the paragraphs & list items, the background
color, font families and add at least one css comment.)

Process

I first created the structure of my web page using TextWrangler. I had

never seen a program outline nor did I know anything about tags. I
used web3schools.com to learn more about proper tag use.
After I created the bones of my page in the html file, I created a css
page and linked these two documents together. From there I added in
rgb color codes acquired from coloradobe.com. This website allowed
me to add in transparency, but I first obtained my color swatches by
taking them from the eye drop tool in Photoshop.
