Montage
Description

A spiritually uplifting montage using two
different images.

Programs:

Adobe Photoshop CS6

Course

Instructor

Julie Peterson

Objectives

Create a montage using two different images
and utilizing the masking technique in photoshop. Must
include a spiritual message.

Process

The tools I used were Photoshop CS6, and the
Google Search engine. I first searched for a scripture
that I felt I could easily work with. After finding one in
particular that I really liked, I set out to find images that
I felt matched that atmosphere. I found multiple images
that I liked and did some mix and match sketches to
see which went well together and which did not while
also incorporating the text throughout each sketch.
After finally deciding on the final image I consulted with
both a classmate and a friend, as well as referred to
the video posted by Sister Peterson. I then made minor
adjustments to complete my image.

Objectives

Create a three different types of logos for the
same company. Use Adobe Illustrator to design these
logos.

Process

The first thing I did was come up with a
business that would need a logo. After deciding this,
I sketched out some ideas that I felt were promising
and picked out a few that I felt were either showcasing
the business product, or at least providing the vibe
I felt they would like. I used Illustrator to create my
logo designs and used the color wheel from the Focus
book to pick out some color schemes. After having my
Facebook friends vote on which logo was their favorite
and getting some critiques from both classmates and
family, I cleaned up the logos to their final versions.

Objectives

Create a new logo and design a business card
and letterhead that go together for a company to use.

Process

First I came up with an imaginary antique shop
and name. After this I looked up antique shop logos
to get an idea of what they look like and get some
inspiration on where I wanted to take mine. I drew a
picture of an old 1800s style bicycle using the pen tool
in Adobe Illustrator. I also created the design for the
business card and letterhead in Illustrator as well before
moving the final products into InDesign. After having
a critique session with a classmate, my husband and
getting the critique information from Sister Peterson, I
then took my designs and modified them so they would
be the best possible versions of themselves.

create a personal photo design with
photography, typography and a color scheme using
Adobe Photoshop.

Process

First I created a few color schemes that I really
enjoyed based off the color wheel given to us this week.
After picking out 3 I then took off to photograph things
that I felt held the same color scheme, respectively.
After taking numerous photos I then went through
them and found photos of each color scheme that I
felt came out the best. After doing so I made quick
sketches of some ideas I had. I then picked what I felt
was the best overall design to create. After doing this
I took to Photoshop and created the design I had in
mind. I made sure to incorporate the correct colors and
mind the issues I was having in previous weeks. I then
met with two individuals this week and got their input
and discussed other design options. I then took to my
design again and reworked some areas and design
aspects.

Process

First thing I did was design my new logo
in Illustrator, along with other small aspects that I
wanted to keep in my brochure. I also used Illustrator
to come up with my color scheme that I wanted for
this business. I then created the overall skeleton of my
brochure in InDesign. After deciding the overall look
I set out to find pictures to use within the design on
Google. I used Photoshop to edit most of my images
and used InDesign to do any finishing touches. I then
pieced all the elements together in InDesign. I met with
other students and fellow designers to discusses any
changes I could make to my design. After receiving
some feedback I made the necessary changed using
InDesign. I then saved the file and printed the brochure
on my home computer, trimming and folding the
brochure on my own.

Create a website that showcases your logo
design and the process that occured during its
creation.

Process

I used a previous logo designed in this class
as inspiration for my webpage. The tools that I used
were Notepad ++, Photoshop CS6, and Google
Chrome. I wanted to pick colors that were bright and
fun so I avoided using the dark blue as a color for
the background or border and instead opted to use it
for the font color. I then chose the green and orange
colors as the main colors for the sight. I felt green was
soft enough that it would do well as the background
and the orange boarder would make everything pop. I
added some font changes to match the fonts that my
logo used as well. My intent was to carry on the feel of
the logo into the whole webpage.

The first thing I did was get ideas from the
city I was living in. I have gone to a lot of Storytime
events with our local public library and so I wanted
to showcase something that they might do. I then
searched a lot of childrens books for an image that
I might use for the flier as well as information for the
library and an organization that matched with my
idea. Once I found a couple of images I liked, I then
sketched some ideas that I had and narrowed down
my options and picked a design I thought would fit
best. I then organized all the images and information
I had and created the Ad that I wanted. I used colors
from the picture image Id found for inspiration as to
what colors to use for my Ad and eventually picked
the contrasting colors of orange and blue. I also tried
to set the right flow throughout the image so that no
aspect was heavier than another. After a discussion
with my critique partners and watching the video Sister
Peterson made of our fliers, I made a lot of critical
tangent errors and tried to tone down some text.

Objectives

Creating a flier that advertised for a graduate
conference.

Process

After collecting my information and looking
over the logos, images, and information I was required
to put together, I contemplated the people I would be
reaching out to and how I would want to connect the
flier to them. I then sketched my flier ideas using a
sketch book I had purchased and a pencil and eraser
and uploaded those images to ILearn. These first
processes were to help formulate my plan. After
sketching I then turned to my computer tools. I picked
a sketch that I felt was the best and began organizing
that design in InDesign using various values of black
and white and making sure each aspect complimented
another. After meeting with peers via Google Hangouts
and Skype, and getting feedback from them as well
as the instructor, I then made changes to my flier in
InDesign.
