In my visual essay, I used the format of Prezi in order to convey
my topic of employee wellness programs and their benefits to both
employees and employers in the workplace. My first objective in my
visual essay was to persuade my audience that health and wellness is
a key factor in the economic and financial stability of all businesses
and companies. Following from this, my main goal was to introduce
and familiarize my audience with the idea of employee wellness
programs and to provide evidence as to their effectiveness in the
workplace in creating a healthy work environment and improving the
financial well being of companies.
In order to do so, I provided substantial amounts of visual
information through the forms of graphic illustration and statistics. This
information became the main bulk of my argument and I added short
phrases from my own voice in order to progress my viewers thought
process clearly and fluidly through my presentation. Prezi allowed me
to focus my viewer on one source of information at a time and I
structured the pictures and arrows in a way that was easy to follow. I
used a font that appeared to be more hand-written throughout my
visual essay in order to convey the effect of myself physically writing
the words into my presentation. I believe this allowed for a sense of

dialogue between myself and the viewer in a way that would have
been skewed by the use of a regular font. The pictures I chose
reflected the tone that I was trying to convey to my audience. For
example, the pictures of obesity, tobacco use, stress and alcohol abuse
were all quite negative in appearance to provide a more serious tone
that reflected the dangers of these things to health and the workplace.
However in contrast, the images I chose for on-site fitness centers,
clinical screenings, lifestyle management and healthy food options
were all quite positive and provided an optimistic tone for the
audience. The music I chose was upbeat, inspiring and somewhat
urgent, which is exactly the type of message I wished to convey in my
visual essay. The music helped me demonstrate that this issue is
urgent for the health and well-being of employees and it is also a great
opportunity for businesses to not only gain profit, but also to flourish as
a community. Finally, my sources were mainly derived from the images
I collected throughout creating my presentation. Most of the sources
are cited on the bottom of each image, and if not, I received my
information from the Department of Labor government website.
