Brochure
Description:
A two sided single folding brochure.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills):
I set up the fold in Adobe InDesign. I split my layout into four
sections. The front, back and inside of the brochure.
I used green diamonds from my logo thru out my layout on purpose
to have repetition and good flow. I also use the diamond shape for
my images as well.
For the image of the men, I used the quick selection tool in Adobe
Photoshop to remove the background of the image. I then used
the refine mask dialogue box to smooth, feather, shift edge and
apply contrast to the outline of the flamingo. The changes I made
in the refine mask dialogue box made a softer image that didnt
look so sharp and cutout against the brochures background. I then
placed the flamingo into InDesign where I used the text wrap
option to wrap my text around the alpha channel of the image.
I created the logo in Illustrator using the pen tool and then I placed
it into InDesign. I then copied the colors and shapes thru out my
whole brochure.
Project Objectives
Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.
Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure.
Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least four quality images,
not including the logo. One should be clipped in Photoshop and
text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the
image.
Write at least 250 words of original copy in at least three
paragraphs, headers, and subheaders.
Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.
Programs/Tools Used: Adobe InDesign/Adobe Illustrator/Adobe
Photoshop

Montage
Description:
An inspirational montage made by the blending of two images and
the use of typogerphy.
Process:
I cropped the background image to 8.511.
i then used levels and hue and saturation adjustment on the image.
I duplicated the back ground adding a gaucian blur and mask to it
and used the rush tool to be able ti sharpen the image around the
person praying.
I then added the image of Jesus Christ on top of the back ground
image
With black paint and a 100% opacity, soft-edged brush, I painted
away the hard edges on the Jesus Christ image.
With a larger black brush at 30% opacity and 30% flow, I blended
the image into the background, so it looks like he is melting into the
scene.
I added some type with two contrasting fonts and I added a layer
style (soft, black shadow) to make the text more legible.
Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Photoshop
Project Objectives
Use the FOCUS design process with strong focal point and flow
Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant spiritual
message
Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks
Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with
multiple elements
Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image
Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scriptures
your choice)
Format type: Legibility; Small copy & Title with varying text size.
Theme word(s)
Select good quality images
Message: I wanted it to be spiritual uplifting and a good reminder to
those that are having a trial in there individual lives.

Business Card
Description:
Business card designed using a personally created logo.
Process:
I created the logo using simple shapes in Adobe Illustrator. I also
used the pathfinder tool to cut and combine these simple shapes.
Once the logo was created, I opened a new two page InDesign
document and placed my logo .AI file into this document.
I used the rectangle tool to create the front and back outline of
my business card. I then copied/pasted the logo and contact
information onto this page. I kept the logo and contact information
about the same size as the information on the letterhead. I made
sure that no important information came any closer than 1/8
from the edges. I also continued to use my dots to tie everything
together. Finally, I a enlarged the E logo and put it on the back of
the card.
Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator & InDesign
Project Objectives
Use the FOCUS design process with strong focal point and flow
Unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant spiritual
message

Letterhead
Description:
Matching letterhead and business card designed using a personally
created logo.
Process:
I created the logo using simple shapes in Adobe Illustrator. I also
used the pathfinder tool to cut and combine these simple shapes.
Once the logo was created, I opened a new two page InDesign
document and placed my logo .AI file into this document.
I decided to make my first page a letterhead. I positioned the
placed logo in the top left corner of my letterhead. I made sure to
keep it at least .5 away from the edges. I then typed my contact
information into a text box and positioned it on the right hand side
of the letterhead. I made my name 12pt font to contrast with the
8pt contact information. I used the dots that I used on my card to
bring my design together. I also added a large watermark of my
logo. I kept the opacity to about 3%.
Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator & InDesign
Project Objectives
Use the FOCUS design process with strong focal point and flow

Microsoft Word and a scanner.
Process:
I scanned the image of the store, and then used a Word to add text

Everything was done in Microsoft Word I was surprised at how much
I could do with the hidden design features of Microsoft Word. It does
come in handy if other design programs are not available.
Programs/Tools Used: Microsoft Word, Epson Scanner.
Project Objectives
Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together)
Find, scan and import a high-quality image.
Create a full-bleed design.
Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your

Photo Desighn
Description:
Demonstrate good photography and image editing skills.
Incorporating color into a poster layout with original photo.
Process:
I first formulated my plan by sketching out a desighn scheme on
a piece of paper. I than choose a color scheme from the Visual
FOCUS book for my layout, I decided on Analogous as my color
scheme. I went and capture a quality photo with good light, sharp
focus, and nice composition using a statue of a knight as my
model. I used my Sony A6000 mirrior less camera. I then brought the
photo into Photoshop and used these specific editing techniques:
curves, sharpness, saturation, and color balance. Then I design an
8.511 layout that including my photo, text, and repeating design
elements. I incorporate my color scheme title, color swatches, and
color names into my design. I used the eye dropper tool to pull
certain colors from my photo and adjusted the color in the color
picker to match a little more accurately. I went with the gold color
as my main color as it pops mostly from the knight in my image. I
used mostly the shape tool to add the box shapes and to add the
diagonal shapes to the image to mimic a sword.
Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Photoshop
Project Objectives:
Learn basic photography skills.
Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then
incorporate the colors into the layout.
Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on
separate layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.)
Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.511 page layout.
Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in
Photoshop.
Print with full-bleed margins. Trim only 1/8 (0.125) from all four
Message: I wanted to make an appealing poster for a younger
audience ages 5-13. I wanted the poster to be fun and colorful to
attract children to it.

Web Page
Description:
A web page designed to showcase a personally created logo.
Process:
I created this web page using only TextWrangler. I had never seen
or written any HTML/CSS. It was challenging but enjoyable to learn.
It was also interesting to use the http://www.W3.org HTML validator.
It was useful to have something check to see if I had any problems
with my code.
After I marked up all my content and inserted my image, I attached
a pre-made CSS document to my HTML. I then used the colors
from my logo as the colors for my web page. I found these colors
by opening Photoshop and using the eyedropper tool. I declared
some backup fonts just in case the viewers browser didnt have
these fonts. I also used padding around the logo and text so that
they would not be too close to the edge of the web page. This was
one of the most challenging parts of working with CSS.
Programs/Tools Used:
TextWrangler & Photoshop
Project Objectives
Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page so the
long side is 300 500 pixels.
Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and
how it appeals to a target audience. (Minimum of 200 words.
Include rationale for colors, appeal to target audience, design skills,
etc,)
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. (Include all required tags
Doctype (provided), html, head, title, meta charset (provided),
body, h1, h2, p, ol or ul (with li tags), img, br, and a link to blog)
Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. (Customize the provided
CSS provided to format the HTML to complement the logo design.
Change at least the following: The h1 text color & h1 background
color, font colors for the paragraphs & list items, the background
color, font families and add at least one css comment.)
Identify hex colors to match logo, using Photoshop color picker.
Open the HTML page in a web browser and capture a quality
screen shot with .5 inch margins for printing.
Message: That my company Energy Clean Resources is a company
to help those that are looking into clean alternative resources to use
every day.

Logos
Description:
Three logo variations for the same company.
Process:
This was really fun to create a logo in Illustrator but I had some
difficulties with being creative with my logos. I used the pen tool to
allow me to light up the fonts the way I wanted them too. I used
the shape tool to create the logos that needed the boxes. Most of
the other elements are just typography. I made sure to choose fonts
from contrasting categories to capitalize on the contrast. I also tried
getting some more contrast by changing the sizes of the words and
adding dramatic slants to some fonts.
Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator
Project Objectives
Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company
or personal image that will appeal to the audience. Do not imitate
existing logos or use previous designs.
Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos. (No
Illustrator pre-fabricated flares, symbols, etc.. No photos or livetracing. You may use an image or drawing as a guide to trace it
with the pen/pencil, but delete the image before submitting.)
Gather opinions from at least ten people about which logo appeals
Message: Eli productions, for all your production needs.

Flier
Description:
Black & White promotional flier to promote a graduate leadership
conference.
Process:
I first created some sketches of my layout. Then I used my sketches
as a base of my flier and modifying as I worked on it using Adobe
InDesign. I used gray squares as frames for my flier so that it would
be able to guide your thru the flier. I used a larger type size to
emphasize the importance of the title and to focus on the title first
creating a focal point. I used the white space to frame up the body
type and image. I was given the image and logo to use in my flier.
Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator
Project Objectives
Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together)
Find, scan and import a high-quality image.
Create a full-bleed design.
Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your
message and audience.
Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe
programs, including Photoshop.
Message: I am trying to reach recent graduates, who want to
have an edge by becoming strong leaders, to inform them how
this leadership conference will help them as they graduate and
increase their chances of succsess.
