KCC Annual Student Art Exhibition 2015

Exhibit dates: April 20 May 1


The exhibition will take place at Art Center of Battle Creek
Reception: 3 6pm, Thursday April 23
Submit entries and fill out entry tags in 4th floor English Office - C Building or at the Art Center of
Battle Creek April 13 15 (ends at 5pm)
Pick-up of exhibited work --- May 4 8

RULES OF ENTRY: (Please read carefully!)

All current academic year KCC students are eligible to submit up to five (5) entries
Note: This is a juried show, so not all entries will be accepted
Submissions may only be works or art produced from May 2014 - April 2015 (the past 12 months)
Works can be from KCC class assignments or produced independently. However, works produced for
classes at other institutions are NOT eligible
If you are a professional artist or art teacher who has major income from your artwork or art teaching, you
may exhibit work in the show but should indicate on entry form that you waive award eligibility.
Official entry form must be completed and official tags attached to each submission
All entries must fit through a standard doorway. Works requiring special assembly or which cannot be
easily moved for display may be disqualified. Any work requiring special installation must be pre-arranged
with Davidson Gallery director prior to entry deadline.
Submissions of series work must have all components of the series clearly marked and numbered. The
juror reserved the right to edit any series for space consideration.
Individual two-dimensional entries are limited to a 4x8area or 32 square feet

Presentation of Work:

All 2-D drawings, photos, and works on paper must be flush mounted on a backing board and/or matted.
Matted artworks should be secured with mounting tape (not masking tape). Matted/mounted works (such
as large size dry-mounted photographs) will be hung with pins around the border for presentation.
Framing is optional, but recommended; however, framed work must be ready-to-hang with appropriate
hardware. Screw eyes and wire are preferred over saw tooth-hangers.
Unframed paintings on board or stretched canvas must have secure wire or hangers attached.
Ceramics and sculpture must be assembled by entry deadline, ready-for-display and sturdy enough to move
during jury process and final display
Web design entries must be submitted on CD or Flashdrive (Macintosh compatible)
Animation and video (4-D) entries must be submitted as a file on a CD, DVD, or Flashdrive (Mac format)
Work may be rejected for sloppy, improper, or unprofessional presentation.

Printmaking / Alternative Photography print processes: Lith, cyanotype, / screenprint, etching, etc.
Graphic Design / Digital Illustration: design with commercial intent including graphics, computer
illustration, logo, advertising design, web design
10. Animation / Video: 4-D, time-based entries including film, video, performance, animation, etc.
Note: Accepted entries in this category may be compiled or edited for viewing.

Judging Process and Awards:


All works submitted are initially screened by a committee of full and part-time art faculty. Once the
entries have been narrowed down, a professional juror will then select the main category awards and
honorable mentions. Awards are announced during the exhibition reception.

Award Selection, etc:

There are currently 10 main categories; however, it is the jurors discretion not to award a prize in any
category that he/she feels does not have work entered that merits recognition. If an award is not issued in a
category, the monies will be used to fund extra honorable mentions.
In addition, during the reception there will be one $50 Instructor Recognition Award announced by the art
faculty, as well as several Art League awards.

Juror: Linda Holderbaum, Executive Director, Art Center of Battle Creek

Holderbaum has been involved with the Art Center of Battle Creek for 22 year, 12 as Curator of Exhibits and
Collections and the last 10 as Executive Director. She has a degree in Art Education from WMU with a major in
painting and graduate work in art history and museum studies. She taught elementary art in the Lakeview School
District and was lead teacher for a Battle Creek Public Schools Native American Urban Education Program for 10
years. Her work is part of the permanent collection at Central Michigan University.

COMPLETING THE SHOW TAG

TITLE OF WORK should not detract from the imagedont be too obscure, sentimental, or ridiculousif you dont have a
title, name it Untitled #1, Untitled#2, and so forth.
Sale Price - Should not be too expensive! If the work of art is not for sale write NFS (Not For Sale), dont just dramatically
overprice it. Price is dictated by size, media type, hours of labor and cost of materials. An average matted & framed 6x 9
photographic print may be anywhere from $75 - $125 while a large-scale detailed charcoal drawing may be as much as $125
$400.
Size of work always list the size of print, not the size of the frame. Vertical dimension is listed first.
