Subject: Regarding opening of some extra classrooms.
Respected Chairperson,
We would like to bring to your attention for your consideration, a fact that we all, the
students (PGP3 as well as PGP4) need more than 2 classrooms to be open during late
night hours for various group activities that are coordinated among students.
The primary reasons for this request are as follows:
1) The PGP program being a residential course, all the students are available
throughout the day for collaboration.
2) Due to schedule classes at daytime, students find themselves free mostly during
the night time to meet and discuss.
3) Hostel rules forbid entry of male students in girls dorms and vice versa thus
leaving only classrooms as a viable option.
4) Project work and group studies are carried out after class hours where the
classrooms act as a meeting point.
5) Two classrooms, with capacity for around 65 students each are provided for a
total strength of 240 students in campus.
6) Even though all the students are not present in the classrooms through the night,
the gathering is large enough on most of the days to hinder the sustenance of a
quiet and collaborative environment.

We have also come to realize some of the ill effects of opening multiple classrooms as:
i.

iii.

Misuse of infrastructure.
Damage to the classroom property due to lack of oversight.
Avoidable utilization of electronic equipment.

Please find below a proposal that may help address the aforementioned concerns:
i.

Keeping the mobile devices like collar microphones and projector remotes in
a locked compartment.
a. Keys will be available only to the class representatives and can be
requested by clubs and committees for conducting events and assemblies
as and when need arises.
b. We were able to confirm with the PGP office that the keys of the drawers
in the class rooms cannot be retrieved.
i. We would like your approval to replace the drawers in themselves.

ii.

Generally it is observed that the classrooms are crowded only till around 2:00
AM.
a. We can schedule the closure of the additional classes at 2:15 AM after
which the students can move to the primary classes (Chanakya CR102 &
Vivekananda CR #202).
b. If need arises, we would like to add a provision to extend the timings with
the consent of CRs.

iii.

As most of the times some students do stay overnight in classrooms for

academic activities, Chanakya, CR-102 and Vivekananda, CR-201 should
remain open as usual.

Having requested a series of changes to the current status of our classrooms at night,
we realize that the responsibility of the open classrooms sanctity and property during
the night hours lies on all of us, the residential students of IIM Raipur (PGP and FPM).
These measures will provide for us an conductive environment for sitting and discussing
and we would like to enforce them with your consent as soon as possible.

We request you to please let us know if any additional points or measures need to be
implemented for above mentioned proposals and kindly approve the same.
