Abstract
Today business world is very fast and competitive; everyone
is looking around for the growth of their business. For this
purpose the systems are being computerised. In Retail
system the daily business sell and transactions are
measured by daily basis.

Page | 2
For this purpose Retail Dashboard is a solution which gives
the exact analytical details and information about the whole
retail system.
A ‘Retail Dashboard’ is a comprehensive summary of
operational business metrics. That is, it centralizes a retail
business’s information systems from Finance, Human
Resources, Sales, etc, to give executives and appropriate
employees a tactical view of the company’s (and
individual’s) performance. Below given figure is showing
exactly the working of Retail Dashboard.

Existing System
Previously, the retail and other business organisations used
some traditional approaches and tools to analyse the
business status; as for example existing systems are using
the excel based sheet and chart for analysing the business
strategy and making plans, but these type of tools and
approaches are not sufficient to analyse the actual situation
of organisation. Even these are not so efficient to work on.
Apart from this, there are also so many limitations with
these tools.

Page | 1
Another approach; In the past, organizations used data
warehouses as a way to capture operational data and store
transactional information to help identify trends, create
reports, etc. without affecting production systems. Even
this enabled businesses to get more information about sales
trends and financial transactions but required a lot of time,
money and provided limited benefits to the business
overall. With expansion in storage size, speed and the use
of open standards, organizations are now able to combine
terabytes of data and analyze that data in-memory without
the additional development time required. In addition,
without the previous development constraints, organizations
can look beyond historical data and towards forward-looking
analyses. These types of applications will only continue to
increase as Business Intelligence components become more
synthesize.

Some major limitations with the existing system:

• There are not good analytical graphs along with

details information.
• Security of data is the major flaw of such
traditional tools.
• There is lacking of multilevel accessing approach.
• Not capable to hold the huge data.
• An analytical report is not produced.
• More user interaction is required.
• Less interactive user interface
• Automatic updates and report generation is not
supported.
• Web based support is not there.
• 24 x 365 support is not there.
Purposed System
In the purposed system we have to take care of Customer
satisfaction and profitability which are the critical issues for a retail
system. Hence we have to design a system which will be able to
handle such jobs as:

• It will produce analytical details of the retail system

Page | 2
• It will give the graphical charts and diagrams with perceptive
colour will be used for immediate understanding.
• It will handle types of product and their individual details too
• Purposed system will be web based; so it can be accessed from
any location of the world by 24x365 hrs of the year.
• It will provide the secured and multilevel accessing features
like upper level of management can get the executive type of
summary about whole transactions; even different department
manager will get their respective information.
• There will be facility to drill down the information regarding the
graphs.
• Easily understandable and efficient working interface will be
implemented.
• Purposed system will be faster, responsive, and will work on
fewer user interaction
• This system will help to Decision support system of the
organisation
• It will be updated automatically from the business information
Scope of the System
Retail Dashboards are used to monitor key performance indicators
(KPI), in real time and allow business owners and sales managers to
take immediate action. Think of a Retail Dashboard as a visual bird's
eye view of your entire retail business. Much like the dashboard in
the car gives us an overview of how the car is running; a Retail

Page | 3
Dashboard lets us see how our entire business is running. Instead of
gauges measuring fuel levels, temperature, and speed, we’ll find KPI
gauges measuring sales, average transaction amounts, profit
margins, and more. The most significant business benefits of
dashboards (as reported by users) are Improved decision making,
Faster time to market, Improved competitive advantage, Improved
customer satisfaction, Improved productivity, and Improved
profitability. The most significant technical advantages of enterprise
dashboards are:

• Rapid problem detection

• Respond to KPI changes faster
• Reduce manual and administrative work
• Improve organizational alignment
• Identify problems
• Manage exceptions
• Better visualization into remote operations and
• Increase operational efficiency.
With a few clicks of the mouse, we can view anything from on-hand
quantity to the lowest cost vendors. Retail Dashboards can help us
to identify crucial shortfalls in forecasting or missed quota targets.
By keeping on top of our business with a Retail Dashboard, we can
begin making smarter business decisions and improving our overall
performance.

Views of a Retail Dashboard

A Retail Dashboard is typically equipped with multiple "views" of

your business. Views may include:
• Company: View sales and profits for your entire company for a
12-month period
• Day: View sales dollars, average selling amount, and average
number of items per day sell
• Market Basket: View sales of related items (i.e., items sold on
the same purchasing ) so you can identify cross-selling
opportunities
• Period: View sales dollars, average purchasing amounts, and
average number of items per purchase for a specified period

Page | 1
• Product: View the best-selling items and how they contribute
to overall gross profits
• Store: Compare sales and profit performance at the store level
• Vendor: Compare vendor performance and graphs sales
trends
The data displayed in each view is based on specific date
parameters that we establish. We can also establish performance
targets and thresholds, thus controlling when the performance
indicator shifts from green (good) to yellow (marginal) to red
(problematic). By monitoring the various KPIs, we can quickly see
which areas of our business are thriving and which ones require our
immediate attention. Depending on the gauges available in our
Retail Dashboard, we may also be able to "drill down" to the next
level of detail to determine the best course of action.

If we're looking to gain an edge on our retail business, a Retail

Dashboard may be the ticket. The power and convenience of a
Retail Dashboard can make even the most critical business decisions
that much easier.

Originations are beginning to grasp the benefits that Retail

Dashboard will bring to their business environment - the asset of
business intelligence with powerful analysis, monitoring, and
reporting – opens the door for stronger competitive
presence. Continuous strategic planning and measurement to plan
keeps successful companies at the top of their game. Organizations
focused on performance can respond quicker to competitive strikes
and market changes. Having the right information at the right time
gives management the ability to make timely and effective business
decisions. Implementing Retail Dashboard solution is a key step
towards sustainability and growth.
