Session Objective - To introduce the audience to the definition and importance of


Effective Leadership Skills (henceforth termed as ELS) in their professional lives.
It is to be noted that the activities are pointing towards working professionals rather
than day to day student actions. Slide 3 contains the following session objectives:
What is effective leadership?
Identify the traits and skills of an effective leader
Examine the role, duties and responsibilities of a Team Leader in the
workplace
Develop a plan to develop your own leadership potential

What is to be done

Begin with the accompanying ELS power point. Use the given tasks to
subsequently de brief the students on the session objectives so that the
students self realize the true importance of being an effective leader.
Carry on with the ppt. Rules/discipline to be followed in the class can be
announced before closing the session.

Faculty guidance for conducting ELSs Task 1 (Slide 2) What
according to you are the differences between a boss and a leader?
Overview :
This fun task will help your class participants to understand the difference between
a boss and an effective leader. Eventually the students will self realize the qualities
that they possess and the ones they are yet to acquire/pick up.
Time: 25 minutes
Tools/Items required:
Board or flipchart
Set up:
1. Either let them work as individuals as it is the 1 st task or split the class into equal
groups of 4 to 6 persons per group.
2. The faculty needs to first just click only once on slide 2 so that only the
question is seen and NOT the image with the differences.

After giving them 5 minutes to jot down their points, choose the first
participant to write down a difference on the board/flipchart.
After he/she writes then ask him/her to choose the next person. (Please
choose one per group if conducting as a group activity so that each team
gets a chance).
Subsequently click on the mouse and show the differences on the image.

This activity can be done individually or in groups of 4 or 5. If conducted as a


team activity then you may even ask if they felt that the group members
could spot certain leadership traits among their team mates. eg. Giving
credit where its due, Enthusiastic etc.

Rules
Tell the individuals/groups that the purpose of this exercise is to get as many
differences as possible on the board/flipchart as possible.
