Our strategies

To supply directly to domestic hospitals, medical centers and start exporting to

international market of all kinds of hand-held surgical, dental and beauty inst
ruments
We will upgrade the industry to shift into production of medical devises and mor
e sophisticated products. This will only happen if the government creates a faci
litative environment for businesses to feel more comfortable to invest. The more
advanced companies will bring in better technologies, better production techniq
ues and put more pressure on the existing private sector to move into more sophi
sticated production.
Make company s linkage with international hospitals, local hospitals, doctors and
surgeons. This will improve product development, quality and innovation.
To train the small sector on joint sourcing and storage of materials
To be more focus on the manufacturing cost of the surgical instruments. The comp
etition is very high on the local as well as on the international level.
The quality assurance, quality control and quality improvement of the surgical i
nstruments are also very important factors as well.
Impec needs to acquire the internationally recognized quality management system
and certifications for more trust of the buyers and even it is required for expo
rting the surgical instruments to Europe.
To work with future European customers Impec surgical needs to make their supply
chain system more effective. It would help us to meet the demand and delivery o
f Products of the future customers in mean time
Budget of marketing and advertisement department would be 10% more than the othe
r departments of the company. As the trade policy of Pakistan has stated that th
e country is lacking in brand development and currently the surgical instruments
branding, in Pakistan, is largely done under the brands of foreign companies, a
nd that is resulting in lower prices for manufacturers. In such environment our
brand would have much better opportunity to grow.
Impec Plans to enter the powered instruments market too, which can be proved as
mover advantage for the company on a local level.
Others:
Collaboration with other industries
In many ways, the performance of an industrial sector is a reflection
of the support that it is getting from its suppliers and vendors. The main supp
orting industries for the export sector include;
(i)
steel manufacturers and metal importers;
(ii)
chemicals
(iii) Machinery
(iv)
casting and die making industry
(v)
training and research institutes
(vi)
packaging industry

Market and demand analysis

The basic factors including quality of education, health facilities, infrastruct
ure provision, and sanitation facilities need to improve in Sialkot for it to co

mpete on better terms in global value chains. The strategy should not be to impr
ove the number of schools or hospitals or roads
the strategy should be to have b
etter governance systems so that service delivery is efficient and the quality i
s regulated and strictly monitored.
The demand in the export markets over the recent years have shifted from basic t
o more sophisticated products, this has provided an easier market for the basic
instruments made in Pakistan as there are no competitors internationally. Accord
ing to general competitiveness framework the sophistication of local customers i
s an integral reason why companies are forced to innovate and then succeed abroa
d. In this aspect the surgical instrument industry is 100% export focused and he
nce it fails to benefit from the demand of the local customer.
The structure of the industry is intensely competitive. There is strong rivalry
among firms of varying sizes which has had a negative impact on the performance
of the industry. Price war behavior is a common practice. This intense competiti
on has kept export margins low and has resulted in low levels of investment. The
re is no foreign ownership in the industry. The top 5-6 companies have captured
around 25% of the export market. These are the firms that have made more investm
ents and have better access to modern technologies and better productivity level
s.
barriors
For small company, it is very difficult to start supplying local hospitals becau
se of very tough
criteria and corruption mafia. The bidder officer
s are bribed by the large companies and it
become difficult for small company to penetrate.
Also the payment system is also very long of
government institutions, normally it take 3 to 4 months to get the whole amount
from the
hospitals. It is also very dif
ficult to find trustworthy customer in the domestic market
Finding trustworthy and long
term buyer in international market is the main difficulty which we
can foresee.
