This Weeks Scope

Bible Story: The Peace of Heaven (God made peace with us through Jesus) Colossians 1:20; 3:15
(Supporting: John 20)
Bottom Line: When God sent us Jesus, He proved He cared for us.
Monthly Memory Verse: So let us do all we can to live in peace. And let us work hard to build each
other up. Romans 14:19, NIrV
Life App: Peaceproving you care more about each other than winning an argument.
Basic Truth: I can trust God no matter what.

This week, were discovering:

Easter is the perfect time to talk about peace. In Colossians 1:20 and 3:15, we find out that us that
peace originated with Gods love for us and Jesus sacrifice on the cross. Since we can receive such
peace from God, we can live peacefully with other people.
This week our Bottom Line is: When God sent us Jesus, He proved He cared for us. Our ultimate
example of peace is Christ. Because He made peace between God and us, we should strive to let
peace rule in our own hearts and lives.
Our memory verse this month is: So let us do all we can to live in peace. And let us work hard to
build each other up. Romans 14:19, NIrV Making peace takes the humility of giving up what we
think is right in order to help others see that we care.

Large Group Game (PK Konnect)

Gift Giver Guess
What You Need: 3 small items
What You Do:
Play a game similar to Thumbs Up, Seven Up. Choose three kids to sit facing away from the other
kids. (You can choose more or fewer children based on the size of your group.) Guide the kids to close
their eyes (no peeking!) and hold their hands behind their backs. Give three other children each a gift
(small item). Guide these givers to sneak behind the three patiently waiting children, place the gifts in
their hands, and return to the group. When all the givers are seated, guide the receivers to open their
eyes and turn around. Give each receiver two or three tries to guess who gave him a gift. Choose a
new group of receivers and givers for each round, using the same items. (If you choose, you can
provide more than three items for each group and use different items for each round of the game.)
What You Say:
Why do people give gifts to others? (To show them that they care for them; as a way to say, I love
you; etc.) [Transition] Many years ago, God gave us an AMAZING gift to prove how much He
cares for us. What was that gift?

Small Group Activity (PK Konnect)

Acts of Peace
What You Need: No supplies needed
What You Do:
To begin, review the Life App for this month and say the definition out loud together. (Peace: proving
you care more about each other than winning an argument.) Divide your kids into groups of two or three
and give them each a different situation from the list below. In their groups, have them discuss ways
they can show peace in their situation. Then, have kids act out the situation and the peaceful solution
for the other groups.
Situations:
1. Your mom got mad at you because she asked you to pick up the living room and its still messy.
You did pick it up already, but your brother messed it up again. What should you do?
2. Your sister is yelling at you for stealing her favorite shirt. You didnt take it or wear it. What
should you do?
3. A kid on the bus says youre in his seat, but you always sit in this same seat every day. What
should you do?
4. Your coach asks you to clean up the dugout after the game, but you cleaned it up after the last
two games. What should you do?
5. Your dad is watching TV in the living room and your friends are on their way over to watch the
premiere of your favorite show. What should you do?
5-6 Challenge: Before you give the written situations to your kids, have them try to brainstorm their
own situations where they might need peace. These could be actual situations theyve encountered or
ones they have imagined on the spot. Have the kids act out the scenarios.
For a tech-adaption, have teams use their scenarios to create short movies with a video editing app on
a mobile device. They can show their films to the other groups.
What You Say:
How many of you have gotten into an argument with your mom or dad recently? (Pause for responses.)
Did you work at trying to make peace instead of winning? Probably not! How about with friends or
people you know at school? Have you tried to make peace recently? [Make It Personal] (Tell your
group about something you remember arguing with your parents about as a kid. Explain how
you tried to win or tried to make peace.) Most of the time we argue because were only thinking
about how we can win and prove that were right. But thats not what Jesus teaches or what He did.
Jesus made peace even when He was perfect! [Apply] How can you make sure peace is your goal
the next time you find yourself in an argument? [Impress] When God sent us Jesus, He proved
He cared for us. How can you prove you care for others?
Jesus as Peace
What You Need: Script Activity Page, Bible, 2 rocks, note cards, markers, 2 craft sticks, glue stick.
What You Do:
Use the objects provided and the Script Activity Page to talk through the gospel with your group. Allow
them to do the actions. Pick a different person each time. Make sure you pause for questions that
they may have along the way.

If you lead mostly older kids, consider asking these discussion questions:
Why do you think there is a lack of peace?
How do you think sin is related to a lack of peace?
What does it feel like in your heart when you sin?
What is the only thing that can make you experience peace again?
5-6 Challenge: Easter is not only a great time to talk with other about salvation, its also a great time for
those who already have put their trust in Jesus to remember back to when they made that decision.
After completing the activity above, invite kids who have trusted Jesus as their Savior to talk about their
experience. You could ask them a few questions to prompt their story:
1.
2.
3.
4.

When did you accept Jesus as your Savior? (How old were you?)
What made you finally realize that you needed Jesus to save you from your sins?
Is there anyone that helped you understand more about what Jesus did for you?
Whats your favorite Bible verse or Bible story?

What You Say:

Jesus is alive! After dying on the cross, He rose from the dead. Thats what we get to celebrate today. I
love Easter! [Apply] In order to have this peace that comes from God, all you have to do is
accept Jesus, Gods Son Gods peace. [Impress] When God sent us Jesus, He proved He
cared for us. Do you know that? Do you believe it?
