ACTION LETTER: Sign-On Letter To Senator Gillibrand Asking Her To Sponsor Bill Banning Fracking On Public Lands
Dear Friends,
I'm writing to ask you to join us in by signing your organization or group on to the letter below. This letter is supported by Americans
Against Fracking.
We are asking organizations to add their name to this letter to urge Senator Gillibrand to sponsor a bill that bans fracking on public lands.
This would be the senate companion bill to the Protect our Public Lands Act (POPLA) - the bill introduced last year by Rep Mark Pocan
and Jan Schakowsky that would ban fracking on all federal lands. We anticipate Pocans original bill will be reintroduced in April and
want to use this letter with lots of organizations signed on as we work with our contacts in Gillbrands office to encourage her to sponsor
the equivalent bill as close to the original bills introduction this April.
Please make sure you have the "ok" from your organization and then sign here: http://tinyurl.com/okhljkt
Thanks so much and let me know if you've got any questions.
Best,

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 8
Rally To Reject The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) With Congressman Brian Higgins
10 a.m.
Tri-Co Building (Outside)
Corner of Ellicott Street & Goodell Street: http://tinyurl.com/nlzhhsz
Buffalo, NY
Please come out and show your support in opposing this bad trade deal. Congressman Brian Higgins will be having a press conference
demanding Congress oppose TPP and fast track.
Currently, a secretive multinational agreement, the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), is being negotiated by 12 countries, including the
United States, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Peru, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Japan and Brunei. Although the
TPP is being sold as just another free trade agreement, only five of its 29 chapters are directly related to trade.
In reality, the TPP would be a permanent power grab by corporations and their financers, and, among its many ramifications, the
agreement could fast track fracking for shale gas in parts of the United States by expediting unrestricted liquefied natural gas (LNG)
exports.
The TPP could also undermine local laws that prohibit multinational corporations from accessing resources such as natural gas, water,
oil, etc. Lawsuits by multinational corporations against municipalities have already started in places like Seattle and Quebec due to past
trade agreements. This means that our statewide fracking ban, which was put in place to protect people and the environment, is seriously
at risk!
The TPP would give big business the ability to sue governments for protecting the public interest through local laws and regulations.
Which means that the FIVE YEARS activists like you worked on New York's fracking ban could all be undermined by multi-national
corporations who want to access the state's natural gas.
Let's show the proponents of the TPP that we will not sacrifice our state!
Please bring a rally sign, a friend, and join us on April 8th for this important event!
Spread the word by inviting folks on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/731271523637244/

THURSDAY, APRIL 9
Amherst Against Fracking Meeting
6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Williamsville Public Library
5571 Main Street
Williamsville, NY

In April 2014 the Town Board of Amherst passed a resolution stating that they'd pass a local law that prohibited fracking and fracking
waste from entering Amherst, but have yet to follow up on their word. A town-wide ban on fracking & fracking waste disposal, including
road spreading, would protect residents from exposure to harmful chemicals, heavy metals, and even radioactivity in fracking waste.
While it is a great victory that NYS recently banned fracking, it does not protect the Town of Amherst from the various fracking wastes
being spread on roads, mishandled in treatment facilities, and other risky disposal processes. This is a huge loophole in current state
regulation and wastes from places like Ohio and Pennsylvania are already crossing our borders.

Film Screening: 'GMO OMG!' (2013)
6:00 p.m.
Buffalo State College
Bulger Communication Center (First Floor, East Room)
1300 Elmwood Avenue
Buffalo, NY 14222
What are GMOs, or genetically modified organisms, and how might they affect our friends & families, the health of our planet, and our
freedom of choice?
Come watch this thought provoking movie, directed by Jeremy Seifert, about one mans journey to find out what exactly his children are
eating. Through his search for the truth many puzzling questions about the food we eat will surface. After watching the movie there will
be an educated and passionate group of panelists to answer all the questions you might have about GMOs and efforts in New Yorks to
pass labeling laws.
There will be a free raffle with tons of GMO-free goodies from places like the Lexington Co-op and Darling Bees Honey. The raffle is
open to all attendees. Everyone will get one raffle ticket for attending the event. We will be announcing the winner of the prizes after the
event.
The after-screening panelists include: Kent Miller (Farmer and Owner of Plato Dale Farm), Amy McMillan (Population and
Conservation Geneticist, SUNY Buffalo State), Rita Yelda (WNY Organizer for Food & Water Watch), and a representative from
Lexington Co-Operative Market.
Brought to you by Buffalo NYPIRG, Food & Water Watch (NYS), GMO Free NY, and NY Students for GMO Labeling. Cosponsored

PEACEFUL CONFLICT RESOLUTION (PCR)

FRIDAY, APRIL 10 TO THURSDAY, APRIL 16
The '2015 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Peace Walk For A Nuclear-Free Future' In Western New York
You are warmly invited to join with the Peace Walkers for a Nuclear-Free Future as they grace WNY April 10-16.
2015 marks 70 years since the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We mus never let such disasters happen again. Carrying
this urgent prayer, we will walk to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference at the United Nations in New York
City. On the way we will pass through Native American lands, where people continue to suffer from all stages of the nuclear cycle. We
will carry a prayer and a pledge that, in keeping with the wisdom of Indigenous people, will create a sustainable society where we can
live in harmony with Mother Earth. Our peace walkers from Japan will report on situation of the ongoing Fukushima nuclear power
plant disaster, from which we must conclude that there can be no 'peaceful use of nuclear technology.'
The Walk is led by Jun-san Yusada, a Buddhist nun, peace activist, and head of the Nipponzan Myohoji Grafton Peace Pagoda (see:
http://www.graftonpeacepagoda.org and http://tinyurl.com/q3ykcz6 )
The Walk began in the California Bay Area (Richmond, Berkeley, Oakland, San Francisco) on March 18, with stops in Los Angeles
(CA), Las Vegas (Nevada), and Flagstaff (Arizona).
Peace Walkers from near and far join together to walk, pray, chant, vigil and educate in WNY on their way to the UNs review of the
Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT), which happens every five years. Students, Japanese, and indigenous people make up a good
proportion of the 35 walkers from outside WNY.
They will be joined by locals, walking from Buffalo, to Hamburg, and then to West Valley and gathering in an urgent prayer to prevent
nuclear disasters and to build public awareness of the nuclear threat and costs, e.g., Fukushimas dire state; the radioactive plume at West
Valley headed toward Cattaraugus Creek and 20% of the worlds fresh water supply; the threat of drones crashing into nuclear power
plants here and elsewhere; etc. There will also be an extended stop at the Cattaraugus Seneca Nation reservation.
From WNY, the Walkers will proceed to Albany, Troy, Saratoga Springs, Stony Point, Indian Point, Croton-on-Hudson, Nyack,
Englewood (New Jersey), Fort Lee, and the United Nations from April 16 to April 27. The U.N. Visit will coincide with the opening of
the The 2015 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the NPT (April 27 to May 22; see here for detailed info:
http://www.un.org/en/conf/npt/2015/ )
Local sponsors include the Indigenous Womens Initiatives, Burning Books, Friends of the Japanese Garden, the Global Justice Ecology
Project, the Interfaith Peace Network, Nekanhsakt: Friends of kwehw, the Peace Education Fund, Seneca Nation of Indians, WNY
Drilling Defense, WNY Peace Center, and others. All support and appreciate the walk leadership from the Nipponzan Myohoji Grafton
Peace Pagoda

Buffalo, NY
We Leave Peaceprints.
Announcing the eighth annual Camp Peaceprints, brought to you by the Interfaith Peace Network, the SSJ Sister Karen Klimczak Center
for Nonviolence, the WNY Peace Center, and Women Against Violence Everywhere (WAVE). The Camp, for youth ages 8 to 13,
provides exposure to a diverse community while introducing and exploring communication, social justice issues, and peaceful conflict
resolution.
We learn how to cooperate, deal with feelings, and problem-solve; as well as exploring and hopefully being inspired toward Nonviolence.
This years special focus on leaving peaceprints will include ways in which we can make the world a more peaceful and harmonious
place.
We'll have wonderful guest presenters - activists and artists - from our communities. Students from St. Marys will be invited to join us in
our activities. Well also play games, have recreation (including swimming at Canisius College), do art projects, create a show, and enjoy
a family potluck on July 23rd. Youth assistants and adult volunteers are an integral part of the program.
Registration is $125 per week ($250 for the two-week period), with sliding scale and scholarships available.

Warren Buffet charges refiners a total of $840,000 per day to haul Bakken crude in old style DOT-111 (a rate of $0.033 per gallon), but
not in the newer "safer" DOT-111's. The 3.3 cents per gallon added transportation costs is harming 400 refiners, according to the lawsuit.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/mar/20/france-decrees-new-rooftops-must-be-covered-in-plants-or-solar-panels
Rooftops on new buildings built in commercial zones in France must either be partially covered in plants or solar panels, under a law
approved on Thursday. Green roofs have an isolating effect, helping reduce the amount of energy needed to heat a building in winter and
cool it in summer.
New EIA Monthly Data Track Crude Oil Movements By Rail (U.S. Energy Information Administration: March 31, 2015)
