Play all the seven modes as these will be useful for the next class, in which we will utilise these
with the chords from the Variations exercise
Try to play all of these in Thirds and find the root tones

Play this with the Amajor Barre chords

the fingers on the strings. These should stay at the same
position but should be just lying on the strings not the frets.)

Basic Rules to
Remember:
Left hand:
Keep the thumb on
the neck of the
guitar and in line
with your second
finger.
Fingers should be
as close to the
strings as possible
Right hand:
Play UP and Down
whenever picking
Picking Exercise # 1
Rhythm exercise on all the strings - Tempo 40
Play 1 tone on the beat
Play 2 tones in one interval - Down Up
Play 3 tones in one interval - Down Up Down; then Up Down Up and repeat
Play 4 tones in one interval
Play 5 tones in one interval (emphasis on ONE!)
Play 6 tones in one interval
Play 7
Play 8

STRUMMING EXERCISE BASED ON THIS ONE:
Do basically the same exercise but STRUM it with muted strings and relax

Find the tones and the relevant sevenths chords (see the chords theory)
When you start with no. 2, tell me what tone it is, what chord belongs to it and show
me that chord in all of the relevant string groups as asked below.

Homework #1
For variation 1,2,3,4 - play the given combinations, but this time mix it with:
Group 1 & 2
Group 2 & 3
The main rule is to mix the chords so that they are play very close to each other
e.g. If the F chords is too far from C chord on string group 1, play the F chord in string
group two right below the C tone

Play the Sevenths with all the corresponding modes
Find the F note across all the notes
Play the F now with an emphasis
Play all the notes in THIRDS
