Eyes:

This specific product has not been tested. Mechanical irritation and tissue
irritation may occur.

Inhalation:

This specific product has not been tested. Inhalation may cause soreness in
the nose and throat, and coughing.

Skin:

This specific product has not been tested. Mechanical irritation and tissue
irritation may occur.

Ingestion:

This specific product has not been tested. However, low toxicity by this
route is expected based on the biological activity of similar materials.

Chronic Health Effects:

This specific product has not been tested.

Medical Conditions
Aggravated by
Exposure:

This specific product has not been tested.

SECTION 4: FIRST AID MEASURES

Eyes:

Wash eyes with clean fresh water. Seek medical attention if symptoms persist.

Inhalation:

Move victim to fresh air. Seek medical attention if symptoms persist.

Skin:

Wash with soap and water. Seek medical attention if symptoms persist.

Ingestion:

If a significant quantity has been swallowed, give two glasses of water to dilute. Seek
medical attention.

SECTION 5: FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

Flammability
Classification:

Not classified. Polymer will burn but does not easily ignite.

Flash Point:

>200C

Hazardous Combustion
Products:

carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen fluoride (HF), olefinic and paraffinic

compounds, partially fluorinated organic materials, trace amounts of
organic acids, ketones, aldehydes, and alcohols may be formed.

Special Conditions to
Avoid:

Fibers in the atmosphere are combustible and may be

explosive.

Extinguishing Media:

Water spray, foam, carbon dioxide, or dry chemical.

Firefighting

Firefighters should wear self-contained breathing apparatus and full fire-

fighting turn-out gear (bunker gear). Keep personnel removed and

upwind of fire. Water should be used to keep fire-exposed containers
cool.

Instructions:

SECTION 6: ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Release Response:

Pick up and retain for recycle or disposal.

Reportable Quantities: See Section 15: Regulatory Information

SECTION 7: HANDLING AND STORAGE

Handling:

No special handling has been shown to be necessary..

Storage:

Keep container dry. Store away from excessive heat, flame, and strong
oxidizing agents. Keep container closed to prevent contamination.

SECTION 8: EXPOSURE CONTROLS AND PERSONAL PROTECTION

Ventilation Requirements:

Use ventilation to maintain airborne contaminants below recommended

occupational exposure limits.

Personal Protection:
Inhalation:
For operations where inhalation exposure can occur, a NIOSH approved
respirator recommended by an industrial hygienist may be necessary.
Eye:

For operations where eye or face contact can occur, eye protection such
as goggles or a face shield, is recommended.

Skin:

Not required.

Additional Equipment:

Not required.

Exposure Guidelines:

Fibers and dust should be considered a nuisance dust.

ACGIH TLV: 10 mg/m3 total fibers & dust

OSHA PEL:

15 mg/m3 total dust & fibers; 5 mg/m3 respirable dust & fibers

SECTION 9: PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES

Physical State

Solid fibers

pH:

Slightly acidic

Appearance:

Water Solubility:

Insoluble but will disperse

Evaporation Rate

Insignificant

Odor

Slightly acrid

Melting Point:

135C, 320F

SECTION 10: STABILITY AND REACTIVITY

Chemical Stability:

The product is generally stable but can react with strong oxidizers.

Conditions to Avoid:

Avoid excessive heat, sparks, or open flame. Small quantities of fumes

are evolved at about 225C (425F). These gradually increase until at
above 300C (572F) the heat of oxidation may produce a rapid rise in
temperature, which increases the pyrolysis. Avoid dust accumulation.

Incompatibility with:

Material may be softened by some hydrocarbons. May be discolored by

exposure to amines and strong bases.

Hazardous Products of
Decomposition:

Not expected to decompose under normal conditions. During pyrolysis,

above 300C (572F), hazardous substances such as carbon monoxide,
hydrogen fluoride, formaldehyde, and acrolein may be formed.

Hazardous Polymerization:
Reactions with Air
and Water:

Will not happen.

Does not react with air, water, or other common materials except at high
temperature, such as in burning.

SECTION 11: TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Not expected to be toxic to humans or animals. No specific data is available. According to the
hypothesis of Stanton-Pott, it is reported that there is a possibility to cause cancer with with ultrafine
fibers below 0.25m in diameter and above 8m in length inspired into the lungs. Examination of the
PEF fibers with electron microscopy shows the diameter of the fibers to be above 1m and the average
length to be over 0.1 mm, so the values are higher than those specified in this hypothesis. However, there
is a danger of causing cancer if you use these fibers in a way that creates ultrafine fibers as described in
the Stanton-Pott hypothesis.

SECTION 12: ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Ecotoxicity:

Ecotoxicity is expected to be minimal based on the very low water solubility

and the fact that polyethylene is not biodegraded.

Environmental Fate:

No information found in selected references.

Bioaccumulation:

Not expected to occur.

SECTION 13: DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS

The International Agency for Research on Cancer, which is part of the

World Health Organization, rated this material as non-classifiable as to
its its carcinogenicity for animals and for humans: Class III. However,
it is strongly recommended not to exceed 2 RFP/ml as 8 hour TWA, with
concentration of 2.5 RFP/ml (15 min.) as a ceiling value. RFP
(respirable, fiber-shaped particulates) are fragments with diameters less
than 3m, lengths up to 100 m and a length/diameter ratio of at least
3:1.

IATA:

Not regulated.

ACGIH:

Has not established a TLV for this material.

OSHA:

This product is not hazardous under the criteria of Federal OSHA Hazard
