OPERATIONS:

This past week, we posted our open positions for

two Commanders in the department. The
process closes on Wednesday, April 15th and
includes a resume, leadership statement, and an
oral interview. Interviews are tentatively
scheduled for the week of April 20th.
We continue to make progress towards getting
our three new officers started. This week, our
candidates completed their psychological and
medical assessments. We are planning some
initial training in the next few weeks and hope to
have all officers in squad cars in the last week of
April.

Partnership and provides direction on best

practices for establishing adequate
housing in rural and small city
communities. The 3rd of 4 sessions is
planned for July.
On Wednesday, April 15th from 10:00 AM
to 2:00 PM, our staff will be at FDLTCC
to attend the 10th annual Careers in
Criminal Justice Expo. The Expo gives
law enforcement officers an opportunity to
speak with current students and to discuss
the highlights and conditions of a career in
the field.

PATROL/DETECTIVES:
We continue to have a significant amount of
pharmaceuticals and other medicine brought to
our Take it to the Box drop box. This week
one of our detectives accompanied Carlton
Sheriffs Department staff delivering the drugs
to western Minnesota to be properly disposed of.
Each year we collect hundreds of pounds of
drugs and dispose of them as a service to the
community. As a reminder to those using the
service, it should only be used for prescription
drugs and medicines that are brought from
private households. The service does not have
the capacity to take in large quantities from
medical facilities or nursing homes. For more
details related to the use of this service, go to:

On April 9, 2015, officers responded to

the area of the 300 block of 21st street
regarding a fight. Officers arrived and
located a group of males involved in an
altercation. Two of the group fled on foot
from the officers. One was apprehended
and identified as one of the primary
combatants. This male, a 25 year old
Cloquet man had assaulted his brother, a
27 year old Cloquet man and was arrested
for gross misdemeanor domestic assault.
The second brother was also arrested and
charged with misdemeanor domestic
assault.

attend bike training in Duluth during the first
week of June. Another four of our officers will
be attending Field Training Officer classes in a
couple of weeks in Hermantown.
This week, I attended the second session of the
Housing Institute in Brainerd, Minnesota. The
session is put on by the Minnesota Housing
