RUNNING HEAD: Worldview Assignment

Worldview Assignment

Part 1 What is a worldview?
A worldview, in its simplest definition, can be described as our view of the world. But,
according to Weider and Gutierrez, it is also much more than that. A worldview can also,
according to Drs. Weider and Gutierrez (2011), can also be described as a filter or lens from
which one sees and interprets the world and all that it represents (p. 50). Keeping this thought in
mind, we can go a little further by saying our worldview is what we use to help us make our
decisions on a daily basis. We use our worldview to decide what is right, what is wrong, and how
we value certain things in our lives. We use our worldview to make what we think are informed
choices in our lives and decide what is important and what is not.

Part Two The Christian Worldview
1. The Question of Origin Simply stated, this is the worldview of How Did Life Begin?
(p. 55). Genesis 1:27 shows that life was created by God. Genesis 5:1-32 shows again
that man was created by God and shows that man descended from Adam and Eve, even
listing the descendants and how long they lived. John 1:3 states that we came from God,
just like every important thing has on earth.
2. The Question of Identity This question simply asks What does it mean to be human?
and Are humans more important than animals? (p. 57). This means that we determine
the basic chain of command of humans versus animals. Genesis 1:26 answers this first
when God states that mankind will rule over all the animals and livestock. Luke 12:24
discusses how much more important we are for the earth than certain types of birds.
3. The Question of Meaning/Purpose This question seeks an answer to Why are we here?
What is the purpose of mankind? Colossians 3:17 shows that part of our purpose for
being here is to honor Jesus and teach the word of God. Romans 14:7-8 states also that
we are here to live and die for our Lord. Our lives are to honor God.
4. The Question of Morality This seeks an answer to How should I live my life?, What
is right and wrong?, and, for Christians, How can I best use my life to honor God?
Isaiah 33:22 shows that we should follow the rules set down for us by God. Micah 6:8
speaks of acting justly, be humble, and love those around us. These are the best ways to
do what is right in the eyes of the Lord.
5. The Question of Destiny This is seeking an answer to Is there an afterlife, and, if so,
how do I have to answer for the choices I made during my life? Revelation 20:11-15
speaks of how we are judged by how we acted during our lives. Matthew 12:36-37 speaks
of how we will be judged and condemned depending on how we acted during this life.
Part Three How My Worldview Influences My Choices

Worldview Assignment
3
1. Think about, treat, and speak to others on a daily basis Knowing that there is an
afterlife and I will be judged based on how I treated people, my worldview makes me
think more about how I treat those. I want to be just, honest, and treat everyone fairly. I
want to do this not only because they deserve it, but also because it is the best way to
honor God. It will also help me when it comes to my final judgment.
2. Voting in local or national elections As a Christian, I have a view of certain party
policies for each party. I have to vote my conscience, knowing that I will one day be
judged by the choices I made in who I voted for in the election. I also have to be able to
look at myself in the mirror on know that the choices I made in the election will honor
my God and help better those around me. If I cannot do that, then I am not being true to
my personal worldview.
