Opposition
The government's 1st speaker gave an adequate
definition of "Foreign workers are a boon to a
country". Agree/refute. If refute state why. Also, I
would like to rebut on the government's 1st
speaker's arguments. The government's 1st speaker
had stated that ________________ but this is irrelevant
because _____________________.
Before I put forward my case, I would like to specify
the roles of my team and I. Today I, Deen 'Akaasyah,
the first speaker of the opposition's team will
present one strong argument which is "Government
take the burden that is caused by foreign
workers".Our combative second speaker, Nishaal,
will give two solid points which is "Foreign workers
cause social problems" and "The occurrence of
competition between locals and foreigners". Our
astute third speaker, will rebut all the feeble
arguments presented by the government team and
summarise our team case.

Today, we as the opposition team, strongly oppose

the motion for today which is "Foreign workers are a
boon to a country".According to TheStar newspaper
online, infectious diseases like tuberculosis and
leprosy which almost disappeared in Malaysia since
two decades ago have made a comeback and this
can be traced to the millions of foreign workers and
illegal immigrants in the country. I quote, Minister
Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the rising incidence of
tuberculosis could be attributed to, among others,
foreign workers and illegal immigrants.
As the number of people infected with tuberculosis
increase, our resources are depleting, we are sapping
away the energy of our healthcare workers draining
them further more, all due to the increasing number
of foreign workers carrying these disesases and
spreading them to our own locals. In industrialized
countries, TB treatment costs about US$2 000 a
patient, but rises more than hundredfold to up to
US$250 000 a patient with anti-microbial resistant TB.

So, members of the floor, can you imagine the

significant toll its causing to our economy and how it
would affect all of us in the long run?Meanwhile,
Immigration Department statistics showed that

there were 1.5 million foreign workers holding

temporary work permits, Quoting statistics from the
Home Ministry, he said as of August last year, there
were 1.3 million illegal foreign workers working in
the country. Hence, government need to pay for the
cost of the illegal foreign workers that are detained
and cost of sending them back to their country.
Furthermore, as the number of illegal foreign workers
are increasing, we would be exhausting the energy of
our police force just to do more patrols in order to
curb the number of illegal foreign workers that are
spreading like wildfires. Also, we would need police
officers that are able to communicate with some of
the illegal foreign workers that are unable to speak
our national language , or even English. Also, foreign
workers would affect the economy in a bad way, by
the outflow of national currencies overseas.

This is because, when foreign workers get their

salary, they would be surely to send some of the
money to their family living in their country of
origin. Hence, this is a loss to the country in terms of
foreign exchange. With the advances in the
transaction system in our country, they can do
transactions easier, faster and cheaper. Hence, the
outflow of the currency notes of our country would
definitely, without a single doubt lead to an
economical disaster and slows down the
development of the country.

Government
Before I put forward my case today, I would like to
define today's motion, "Foreign workers are a boon
to a country". According to the Oxford Dictionary,
foreign or foreigners - a person not belonging to a
particular place or group in our case, a country ; a
stranger or an outsider. Worker - an employee,
especially one who does manual or non-executive
work. Boon- helpful or beneficial.
Country -a nation with its own government, occupying
a particular territory. In a nutshell, our motion for
today is defined as, "A person from another country,
who does manual or non-executive work is beneficial
to a nation". Today I, Deen 'Akaasyah, the first
speaker of the government team, will present one
strong argument which is "Foreign workers are willing
to take on jobs that are not wanted by locals.

Our combative second speaker, Nishaal, will give
two arguments and our astute third speaker, Seet
Tzu Hwan, will rebut all the arguments presented by
the opposition team and summarise our team case.
Today, we as the government team strongly concur
with the motion for today, which is "Foreign workers
are a boon to a country"
Foreign workers are willing to take on jobs that are not
wanted by locals, such as construction workers, maids,
and cleaners. These sectors are mainly the
construction sectors, and service sectors providing
house maids and cleaning jobs. All house maids are
living in together with their employers, and locals will
never want to live in with their employers. Without
the services of these house maids, most local
housewives will not be able to go out and work, and
this will affect the economy of the country because in
many countries, women comprise over 75% of the
work force.

So if this 75% of the work force have to stay home

and look after the children, what will become of the
economy? It will be a disaster, economically
speaking.
In the construction industry, it is very difficult to get
local workers. They are very reluctant to sweat
under the sun and to do rigorous activities. On the
other hand, the foreign workers are very willing and
does not mind the working environment in the
construction sector. They come well prepared
mentally and physically, and are very less
demanding in terms of wages.
Thus, this will benefit the employer and the industry
and will contribute to a better economy for the
country. Without them, there will be no KLCC, no KLIA,
no LRT, and we might still be using the old roads
through kampong and villages instead of the
sophisticated highways that we have now. As for the
cleaning sector, no doubt that there are locals who
works as cleaners but, their working attitude is not on
par with the foreign workers, because the foreign
workers are more willing to carry out the so called
'dirty jobs' such as washing and cleaning of the
toilets.

A fellow researcher at the Institute of East Asian

Studies of the University of Malaysia Sarawak, Dr
Awang Azman Awang Pawi said that the rapid

economic growth during the past two decades had

increased living standards of Malaysians and had
directly contributed to the lack of interest in the
locals working in the 3D sectors which are
Dirty,Degrading and Dangerous, which are later
filled in by foreign workers.
Also, foreign workers does not contribute to
unemployment because unemployment is already a
problem faced by the government even without the
presence of foreign workers. For example,
unemployed graduates. Before I take my seat, allow
me to reaffirm my stand for today, that we as the
government team, strongly concur with the motion for
today which is "Foreign workers are a boon to a
country". May my 1st point have laid the base and
foundation of the opposition's coffin and my brothers
in arms will step by step progressively complete the
beautiful contraption. Thank you.
A very good afternoon I bid to the House Speaker, Honourable
Adjudicators, worthy opponents, precise timekeeper and members of the
parliament. Now the time has come for me as the first speaker from the
opposition team to stand here to speak on the motion FOREIGN
WORKERS HARM THE COUNTRY.
But before I proceed with the first argument on the motion. I would like to
give the opposition definition of the keywords in the motion. Foreign
workers is defined as a person who works in a country other than the one
of which he or she is a citizen. According to Oxford Dictionary, harm is
defined as physically injure, which in this case, foreign workers causes
harm to malaysians citizens.
Therefore, we,the opposition define todays motion as FOREIGN
WORKERS HARM THE COUNTRY.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Before I proceed with my first argument, allow me to state our stand
regarding the motion today. We, the opposition, strongly say that FOREIGN
WORKERS HARM THE COUNTRY.
As the first speaker, I will speak on citizens and unemployment factors.
My second speaker will touch on ................. and .................... factors.
Whereas my third speaker will do the rebuttals.
Members of the House,
As the first speaker, allow me to convince you that FOREIGN WORKERS

HARM THE COUNTRY PHYSICALLY AND FINANCIALLY.

According to Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, foreign
workers in Malaysia numbered 3.5 million as of mid-2011, comprising 1.5
million legal foreign workers 2.0 illegals. He also mentioned that
Malaysians relies heavily on foreign workers to help out in the construction
and plantation sectors. Most of the workers are sourced from Indonesia,
India, Bangladesh and Nepal.
However, ladies and gentlemen, what happens if these foreign workers
become unemployed? Wont they resort to crime? Even our police force
will be and are still unable to cope with the situation. We are in dire straits
as too many unemployed foreigners...

owever, there are also hidden costs to hiring foreign labour. First of all,
foreign workersmay not be loyal to a company. This means they may
change job often or leave the country quickly if there is a problem, such as
happened recently in Libya. Secondly, they may create alack of
employment opportunities among locals. Employers may not want to give
locals highsalaries if they can employ expatriates more cheaply. A third
problem is that they lower wages for certain jobs. Jobs which are
attractive in some countries such as construction become very lowly paid
if they employ mostly foreign workers. These factors may causeserious
problems and imbalances in the host economy, such as too many locals in
the government or public sector. A further point is that some expatriate
labour is not really cheap, since it may be less effective or their skills may
not transfer well to the new country.
In conclusion, its a difficult balance between finding workers at the right
price and
developing a strong and diversified economy with good employment
opportunities forall. Countries have to decide between protecting their
own workforce and creating acompetitive environment for business

The sea is rising, the tide is high, the curtain is up and Im ready to say.
Assalamualaikum
and a very superb morning/afternoon/evening I bid to Mdm/Mr Chairperson, precise
timekeeper, wise and loyal adjudicators, dear worthy opponent team and
finally members of thefloor. I _____, as the second speaker will introduce two new
points b4 that let me rebut themisguided argument raised by the 1st goverment
speaker.
1st Point
L&G, Hiring foreign workers may cause our countrys economy to be unstable.
The cost inacquiring and maintaining these foreign worker are quite high.
From my finding, I found outthat the cost to acquire one legal foreign worker is
more than RM10,000 . Plus after acompany managed to acquire these foreign
workers, theres no gurantee that they willremain loyal. These people are usually

goes to the highest bidder, so when anothercompany offers them better wage
their will surely just change jobs without hesitation. This means the
foreign workers may change job often or leave the country quickly if there
is aproblem occur, such that happened in Libya.Next, the presence of
foreign worker shall lower the pay rate for certain jobs. Jobs which
areattractive in some countries such as construction worker and such others. This
will make thelocal who do this kind of work suffer , because their wages would also
be lower compared towhat they used to have before the presence foreign
worker in our country. L&G, have u heard about Niger Delta Struggle in
Nigeria? Well basically it is caused by foreigners whocame there to mine
oil, they make lots of profit there, while leaving the locals in poverty.
Plusthey just mine the oil without caring for the environment, so the locals
had to live incontaminated surrrounding for years . You see L&G with the presence
of foreign workers inour might someday make us become like those people
in Nigeria, who failed to prosper intheir own country. With salary rate being lowered,
our own people will be suffering in our owncountry, while the foreign workers enjoy
their life. The foreign labours wouldnt have trouble with the low wage, this is
because they had been surviving with low wage their whole life. Soyou see L&G,
they are only bringing more trouble rather than benefit. Basicly what Imsaying
here is that the presence of foreign worker causes our countrys economy to
beunbalanced, and its unfair to our own locals.
2ndPoint
Moving on to my next point , foreign worker causes social problem in our country
toincrease and they bring more negative cultures into our country. L&G recently
weve seen a lot gangsterisme issues being portrayed in our local media, and this
issues are mainlycaused by those foreign workers who came to work in
Malaysia. This has caused parents tobecome scared to let off their children to
wander around unsupervised, especially those whohave teenagers. The parents feel
that the world have become a dangerous place for theirchildren. Nowadays with
the rapes, prostitution, and human trafficking, parents felt worry
andanxious to let their children to explore the world. Especially Parents with
teenage daughters,L&G, all of us have heard about all those Lombok boys who
seduced our own local young girls and these girls back to Lombok, At first
these Lombok boys came to Malaysia to work, but then they started to fall
down with our local girls charm and then they seduced them and
bring them back to Lombok. And then when the girl realize that they are
making a mistakes, its already to late for them to do anything. This matter
has made parents who has daughters sleepless because they are scared
what if my daughter had fallen for a Lombok guy. And because of this
most parents wouldnt allow their child to go out and explore the the
worldoutside their safezone because their are scared something bad might
happen to their children. This has somehow blocked our future generation
growth. If the parents didnt allow their children to explore and experience
the things that are going on the real world, the child growth will not
be perfect. This is because they couldnt learn the reality about things
that are actually happening in real life. You see L&G, The presence of
foreign workers can actually interrupt the growth of our future
generation. As we all know L&G, people might looked innocent on the

outside, but on the inside well never know what are they thinking about. These
foreigners might seem all gooey and friendly, but actually they might
scheming something that can cause harm to our country. So why do we require
them to come to work in our country? Theyll only cause more problem to
arise in our country. Beside those jobs that the foreigners are paid to do , can
actually be done by our own local people. Moreover ifwe bring too many of them into
our country, they might overpopulate us someday. Do wewant them to be a
part in our 1Malaysia nation? Of course not L&G, our country should
onlybe populated with us only . But I am sure their numbers are increasing day by
day, so weshould stop bringing them to our country anymore to avoid
being overpulated by them. If there are too many foreign worker in our
country, they might cause our country harmonys to topple down and this
can make our country to be vulnerable to outside forces who has bad intention to
our country and those who wants to invade us. This has proven that hiringforeigners
to work in our country is actually bringing more trouble compared to the
benefits.L&G, prention is better than cure, so to avoid these problems to arise,
we shouldnt bring anymore foreign worker to our country. So L&G with that
I rest my case.

OPPOSITION : FOREIGN WORKER BENEFITS THE COUNTRY

1st Speaker
Assalamualaikum and a very superb morning/afternoon/evening I bid to
Mdm/MrChairperson, precise time keeper, wise and loyal adjudicators, dear
worthy opponent teamand finally members of the floor.I stand here as the
first speaker for the opposition team to define our motion today wordby word.
According to the Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary, the word
FOREIGNmeans a belonging to or connect with a country that is not your
own, WORKER is mean by a person who works, especially one does a
particular kind of work, BENEFITS is an advantage or useful effect

that something has, and lastly COUNTRY Is an area of land withits own people,
government and so on. Please lend me your ears for 8 minutes as I will drive
you through the isle of reality as Iam hoisting up the truth and nothing but the
truth on our motion today that is FOREIGN WORKERS BENEFITS THE COUNTRY.
I _____, as the first speaker of the opponent team will now clarify my team role
for this debate session. I, myself will be talking about Foreign workers cause
health problem to increase. Next my 2ndspeaker will now explainanother two
point that is Hiring foreign workers will cause imbalance of our
countryseconomy and foreign workers causes social problem in our country to
increase and they bring more negative cultures into our country. Last but not
least my, 3rdspeaker will definitely rebut, rebut and rebut all the misguided
argument raise by the opponent team. Moving to my first point, foreign labours
cause health problem to increase. Why I say soL&G, look around us the foreign
labours who came to work in Malaysia are NOT VERYHEALTH CAUTIOUS. They
always dispose their waste as if they are in their own country.Look at the the
places where they stayed, the surrounding are very filthy. They just throw their
garbage around carelessly and these garbage sometimes cloged the drains. As
we all know mosquitos especially aedes (which causes dengue) breed in water
and the clogeddrain will cause the water to be stagnant and become a breeding
ground for the them. Thiscould cause a rise in dengue fever and several other
diseases case involving our own localpeople. You see L&G, hiring foreign labours
to work in our country will only spell trouble forus the local people. As we all
knew, people from third world nation are notoriously known for their dirty habits,
and they didnt really care about the cleanliness of their foodstuff. That is why
the number of chlolera cases in their country is high. If we bring them to work in
our country, they might also bring this negative habits into our country and Im
very sure we thelocal people will had to suffer from their bad habits. So L&G Its
better to hire our own local people to work instead of using these foreign worker
because at least well know the origin of the people who work for us. As the
saying goes Better the devil we knew than the angel wenever met. By hiring
local people, we are certified that they are free from diseases becausecitizen of
Malaysia have been given various vaccin to immune us from dangerous
diseases. But the foreign labours, especially those who came from a third world
nation, didnt get any vaccination. So when they came to Malaysia, they might
bring back pandemic diseases that has been long gone from our country such as
Malaria,SARS and all sort other. So when we hire them we all had to suffer from
theirs misfit. So you see L&G, foreign workers didnt actually bring benefits to
our country. With that I rest my case
